Hi, all. I recently spent a bit of time in Dubai, and am close, I think, to landing a full-time job there. Full of questions, of course, but right now, I'm curious about the live music scene.
During my earlier visit, I saw a bunch of fairly ridiculous cover bands (the bass player at the Rockwell, though, was terrific), and turned down plenty of opportunities to fill my head with dance music (not my speed). Not much, though, featuring Dubai residents, Emiratis or expats, playing their own songs. I'm fondest of punk and folk music--largely because of the DIY ethic that informs both--and am curious as to where the local music scene tends to get together. Or if (cringe) homegrown music even has the support of a local scene in the first place.
