What do you think about French, Spanish, German, Arabic and other languages forums?
I'm thinking of a separate category called "communities" where all the forums will be.
Any comments are welcome.

I say bad idea for now, but it could work as long as you have moderators who speak the languages well and keep control of any slanderous/illegal content that might go up by posters. Are there any concerns for you Andyba if you are the running the forums and you don't speak all of the languages? (or maybe you do :))

Thats the point that I don't speak all the languages... so I'm a bit concerned about abusive posts.

There are no forums created yet.
I just want to know how many people registered on DF want to discuss in a different language

In my other forum that I participated, they've 8 other languages... which every language had a Mod that speak that words.

Excellent Idea..........we have so many nationalities in UAE, and it would make sense to have forums in different languages, or we could link this forum to other known forums. *Not sure if this is feasible*

My experience shows that it would be forums of a few housewives with threads about KKK (Kinder, Küche, Kirche)

every one in DF converses in english, although there might be audience for other languages..
but i assume that there might not be too much of topics/threads in other languages, as in english, except for arabic (yeah the arabic users/audience are just too much.. referring to other online arabic forums)
anyhow, andyba .. thanks for having DF still running..feels great to be here for 5 years now!

It may not be the only language in the world, but it is the language of this forum

hmm i think it's a good idea, basically as it was mentioned before we have so many different nationalities in the uae, and yeah sure a majourity of us can converse in english its sometimes nice to be able to in our .... mother tongue as well :D

it would be good to have variety of other languages, however, english forum would loose its diversity..

You can only have one language per forum. If you want these forums to use other languages, then set them up separately . Everybody on one forum must understand everyone else. Common sense!

Without good knowledge of each language, moderators/admin cannot hope to enforce rules set by the ISP etc . If there are any cases of slander, illegal activity etc., then it could bring legal problems for the owners of the forum. I think they had better stick to a forum in English, which is easier to maintain.

Yes, for me is a dream to have a forum in my own language, because my english is so limited , and sometimes to express myself is impossible, I hope soon we will open a french forum and my point of view is not unique I'm sure.

Good and bad, I would miss the interaction if some of the posters here found less time to contribute because they were posting on their own language forums. I don't only want to talk to Brits, Aussies and Canadians ! :P

The world is wonderful because the people are different and they have a different opinions, but if they open the forums in french, the people who want to participate they have to make an effort to talk in a different language ! Like me when I forced yself to understand and to write my very bad english sentances !!!

haha, good point Eva, but you come up against the problem that as English is the language of the world, many nationalities using these forums will not be able to communicate in French and your crie de couer will go unanswered! Desolé!

This is a good point. I had made friends with a French woman who could barely type English. She sent me French nursery rhymes and later text in French which I translated using automatic tools. It was an interesting interaction and at times hillarous.

You could start the thread in a different language and continue from there in the same language. Something in the Search would have to tell other language users to go to those threads. Or as suggested start forums for other languages.

I think keeping english as single medium of communication can bring all nationalities closer. i think by creating separate language foums can make this site similiar to other sites for regional groups. where each groups sits separately.
