Hi this is my first time using an internet forum so please be patient with me. My husband and I are at the very early stages of exploring a two to three year stint over there. We have two children 3.5 years and 7.5 months and would be interested in hearing other families experiences. My husband is a secondary school PE teacher of 25 years experince (20 UK, 5 Australia). I understand teaching is not well paid, but I'd like to know your experiences. My husband is a soccer specialist and we also run a small business on the side, soccer for 3 to 6 year olds. I'm on maternity leave at the moment, but I'm employed in local government as an environment officer. I would prefer not to work out there if possible, in your opinions' what do you think our chances are?

Hello, Cookie monster.. Welcome to DF.
You can click on the Dubai General Chat and go there and post this as a new topic.. I'm sure you'll get some interesting and learned responses there..

You probably can't. That privilege is usually reserved for moderators. You could repeat the post but double posting is poor forum etiquette. Try asking a moderator to move it (click on the PM button under a moderator's name to send a message).
Teacher salaries can be poor to very good. Depends on the school. Good school, good salary, expat package, and you can live well enough on one salary. Don't assume teacher kids get fee exemption though. Some bedtime reading...

Cheers Bonk, very helpful!

Welcome to DF, may I suggest that you post into Expats help, where you should get some good advice.

i have moved your entire thread to expat, where you should get the advice you need.
Sadly the chances of your husband finding a teaching job to support all 5 of you is extremely unlikely.
A lot of teachers employed are NQT's and the average monthly salary is around 8-10k Dhs plus benefits.
You will need a large appt or a villa with 3 children, you are looking at 150k a year rental minimum, the reality is probably much higher i am affraid.

Many thanks for moving my thread and for your advice. Must just let you know that we have two children, not 3. At the end of the day though I get your drift. Advice seems to vary greatly but I guess (as I have read on other threads) it really does depend on what sort of lifestyle etc we want whilst living over there. I guess that's why I'd really be interested to hear from other families over there who have teaching as their primary source of income.

Have a look at and forums - they're busy with school related topics and family stuff. Also for teachers.
