Engineering Salary

Ringer Hi, I'm being headhunted for an engineering job where I'm rather senior with specialist competence. It's a very narrow niche where I have key knowledge. I live in Europe having a somewhat similar job as offered but at a lower seniority. My salery at the moment after taxes are in the range of 150k dirhams. The offer is an expat package with housing, insurence, transportation, healthcare and 2 return trips to europe a year. What would a resonable salary be on top of this? Or more accuratly, where are the limits when I should start to feel I'm stretching it too far? 8) Would 30-35k/month be a starting point or am I too modest then?
dbxsoul Sounds about right; I’d start with the higher figure first, but word your request carefully - you want to leave them some room to negotiate with you if they feel what you are asking for is too high. Conversely you don't want to ask for the lower figure simply to get the job and later find out that they were prepared to offer more. Get them to specify exactly what they mean by “housing, insurance, transportation, healthcare” in the UAE these are very much open to interpretation. Housing could mean a 5 bedroom mansion or shared accommodation with 12 other people – get them to specify it and if possible add an amount – this will help you evaluate the package in its entirety. Healthcare could mean a government health card or a private medical aid scheme – get them to tell you which it is. Insurance, specify again! What insurance, for whom, what does it cover, is it private or are they simply telling you can claim from the government for permanent disability (which is a legal entitlement, not a perk). Who is the underwriter of the policy, where is it paid out? Do they simply mean car insurance? Tie up some of the loose ends and it seems to be a decent offer. nuzbim nuzbim
is the 35-30K per month all inclusive or just the base salary? if that's just the base salary then it might be unrealstic to think you'll be able to double your salary by moving here. michaeldubai its a very poor salary. ask for 70k. confidently. they will give it to you for sure. dbxsoul :?: :?: :?:

what's the basis for this pearl of wisdom? nuzbim yeah that's why i asked bout the housing. it's posts like the guy above who've screwed the market in dubai. you don't double your salary by coming out here. you can def save, and if housing is included you'll def save, but to earn 6x the guy's salary, that's just stupid Ringer So what are you saying? The housing and transport is paid by the company. The salery is on top of it, and my idea was to say a rather high starting bid to see the reaction since they came to me and not the opposite... nuzbim
if they approached you, then they know the salary levels in the UK and the tax levels. if you go in and ask for 2-3x your salary, how do you think they'll react? the markets out here have gotten smarter about who they hire. but the reality is that people don't double their salaries by moving out here, not anymore. it's tax free and since they cover your housing and transpo, ask for what you feel would be enough to get you to move. Ringer
well it's not U.K. levels, but anyway...
okey, I'm asking a lot here, probably way to high and I already sent my request.... But I put it down as just a figure to start the discussion with...
