Apology for intrusion but I really need your help and I would be very grateful if you could help.
I have just finished a Masters Engineering Degree from a UK University and I am looking for a job as well as considering Masters MSc I mean, and A PhD. Although I am more interested in working for obvious personal reasons. Howvere, I need your advice and recommendations on that.
So while I am considering applications, I do really need your help in that to advice me about specific engineering companies as well as how advantagous to go for a PhD and find a job later in Dubai whether with oe without a British passport?
: is it correct that with a PhD I ould be OVERQULIFIED? in Dubai or anywhere?
Also, seems that Eng. is more promising in Dubai than UK or somewhere else? what do you think?
I have to stop here as I talked too much, aplogy for this long email and I would be very grateful if you could help.

there are a few things to consider:
1. companies will prefer to employ staff with solid work experience as opposed to someone who is qualified in theory only.
2. engineering specs in the middle east are not quiet the same as they are in the uk, so some adaptation would be required.
3. local companies prefer employing people with "local knowledge" i.e. middle eastern experience over applicants from out side - irrespective of the qualification
i'd suggest you look for vacancies in the field (in dubai) - to be quiet honest you'd probably have to start with on a junior position until your work experience has increased, but consider this as a stepping stone even if you do it for a year or two - by the end of this i'm sure you would have made your mind up as whether to study for your PhD or not
once you have dubai under your belt you'll find that other "progressive" engineering areas such as Singapore/ HK/ China etc will be easier to break into
also bear in mind that what is often taught in theory is not what is used in everyday practice - in my experience theoretical education gives you a good foundation, but you only really start learning once you start working

Hello, i was in the same position however i found that irrespective of qualifications, experience was vital and the ability to have a good interview are key. Saying that though i do want to continue with my education to Chartership but depending on which specific field of engineering, i find phd level unneccessary. Dubai was easy to break for me, just network and get yourself out there if your not there already, there are so many opportunities. Found a really good job in 10 days, and plenty of those were partying days too!

Welcome to the forum...First clarify what is you specialization. If it is in Civil engineering then Dubai is the place to be. If not this is still a good place but depends if you want to bifurcate into sales as marketing.
The manufacturing industry is picking up but still in the prelim stages.
Yes and as the rest of the guys said local experience is quite important here.

I was planning to move to Dubai in about 12 to 24 months time to work, is it feasible for someone like my self with only around 3 years experience to go work in Dubai or is it just a pipe dream? All I知 looking for is enough money to support my self and be able to live relatively comfortable. If there is anyone with any information on this please feel free to email me, thank you for any help available

It's feasible to come here, however you have to be aware that the more experience you have the better package you can generally command.

I think you should be aiming far higher.
They won't expect a british engineer to work for that.
In 12 months time you will have a reasonable amount of experience, you should look for double.
