Anyone here play or is interested in playing Dungeons and Dragons? I recently got into 4th edition and started playing with some friends but they've all gotten pretty busy lately.

been in the country 5 weeks and need my gaming fix :)

Oh sweet. I finally got a response! Where do you stay (don't need anything specific)? Are you a regular or just a casual guy? I *just* got into so we're really casual and not rule-sticklers at all.

I was going to ask the same question in a couple of weeks. I haven't played in far too long.
I'm a 2nd Edition Vet, playing since 1990. Where are you guys based?
gamercowboy
My group hasn't played in months. Are you in Dubai?

I am indeed. How many were you?
I don't know any players here, most of my friends are more likely to think I've spent too long in the Irish Village if I were to suggest a evening hunting kobolds with strange dice in an imaginary dungeon!
gamercowboy
There were 6 of us including me as DM. We were doing 4th edition since I was able to pick up the core rulebooks from Kinokuniya in Dubai Mall. I'd really love to play again but I think everyone else lost interest/got busy with other things.
Have you tried 4th ed?
portland
I always wanted to play this...sob

Busy adult life...it was easier in University :)
I haven't played 4th ed, but tried 3rd...and hated it. It felt like a merging of ICE into what had been a streamlined 2nd Ed.
I understand 4th is a cleaned up version of 3rd ed.
I'm happy to DM 2nd ed...know the rules pretty well and for newbies its a lot simpler.

If you are still in Dubai, then why not.
I'm back in Europe over the next fortnight and then going villa hunting. I can bring back core rule books from Europe and am happy to DM from there.

I never played much 3rd or 3.5 either. I started with 2nd ed in college but I didn't stick with it and now we have 4th edition. But you know how it goes, rules are just there to be used as a storytelling framework anyway.
Portland, have you ever played? Whereabouts do you live in Dubai (nothing specific)?
Khelben
There are four of us posted to this thread and one of us appears to know a couple more.
Is it worth organising a meet up over a few pints and talk this out?
gamercowboy
Get a few more post counts so you can use the PM functionality. Two of my friends that played before are out of the country for a couple of weeks. Maybe we can do something when they get back.

Okay. I've seen the pm option, I'll see if I can use it, if so I'll send you my email address.
I'm away the next fortnight so timing wise this works.
Khelben
Apparently I need 10 useful posts...this would be 7!
I'm off to be useful 3 more times :)
gamercowboy
Want to roll a 4th ed character in case we decide to play? :)
gamercowboy
Unless you wanna DM that is.
Khelben
I'll DM, but it would be 2nd ed. I didn't take to 4th ed rules...felt like Rolemaster...stub a toe and die of internal bleeding.
I'll play 4ed though :)
AussieClay
Hi, got a PM ... cannot read it because of the Magic 10
I presume its re this?
I have 4th Ed books on the way in a ship... have them on pdf on my laptop...
Am probably most comfortable with 4th Ed and I think its probably the best rule set ever.... and I have been playing since 1986.
I live in the Green Community in the Dubai Investment Park

PS - I can DM 4th Ed :-)

I actually don't remember if I sent you a PM or not. Regardless, where have you been? You kinda left me hanging after your first post when I got so excited :p
AussieClay
Sorry... I had just moved here and real life got in the way...
I got a PM from Khelben and have since emailed him directly...
He seems to be the one organising the initial get together for a beer. We're both travelling to Europe this month, and I get back on the morning of the 22nd, so the get together may be after that.

No worries. Btw, just out of curiosity, how old are you guys? Not that it matters either way :)

Woohoo! I'm the youngest! Erm. Maybe not such a good thing? Maybe I shouldn't DM :D
ayman76
If you manage to play on a normal basis, give me a shout on the forum.
I've only played 3.5 and will not bother buying 4e unless there is a solid group interested in gaming it. :)
gamercowboy
Hi Ayman. Welcome!
BBLBB
I've not played in ages, pretty much 2nd edition, though I did own the 3rd ed. but never had the time.
Would love to play (any ed. is fine with me).

BBLBB, are you BB's secret admirer?
 :D
WhiteJade
Double post
BBLBB
no, there's no secret admiration here. Just a palindrome which also happen to be my initials to my full name.
gamercowboy
Hey there. We actually have a good number of people interested now. We really should organize a meetup. I think Khelben and Aussieclay are still out of the country. Let's see what happens this coming week.
Speedhump
Just curious, did any of you ever play other genres like Judge Dredd, Call of Cthulhu, etc?
lazir
let me know when and where..really want to play again.. :)
AussieClay
Hi, am back... had to go to UK and then the following week Copenhagen.
Issue with me is that my wife and kids arrive in the UAE from Australia this Friday, so I want to spend some time with them and help them get settled.
Now, re the game, I would really like to use 4e. I am very happy to DM and am generally more of a DM than a player.
My books etc are on the ship from Sydney and are due to arrive around 20 June.
Is this an issue with anyone? If we can wait until around then, I can DM and my family would have been here for 2-3 weeks to give me some grace with them.
PS - my wife was playing in her first campaign when I left Sydney, she enjoyed it and may be persuaded to play again. The best balance for gameplay in 4e is 5 players. So do we have that many?
lazir
hi..got any room for one more player?
i've played 2nd ed and 3.5 but im willing to try the 4th one..
lazir
26 and eager to play.. :D
gamercowboy
Hi lazir. Welcome :)
Aussie,
I do believe we have 5 players at least. I think that can be stretched to 6 without much problem. I've DMed for as small as 4 and it was decent. June 20 isn't too bad considering we've waited this long anyway. If the books are an issue for you, I have pdfs and the core 4e books as well.
kanelli
Wow, I haven't played since the mid-80's. It was a lot of fun! Enjoy guys!
AussieClay
Ya, the system is flexible. Designed for 5 players, but scalable either way...
Perhaps a casual one shot game in late June and then a regular campaign...
gamercowboy
That sounds perfect. A one-shot would be fairly simple and we'd be able to get a read on how everyone likes to play. Last weekend in June sound ok?
BBLBB
Last weekend of June should be ok.
gamercowboy
Ok, are we agreed? Aussie, will you DM a game for late June? What day? Friday or Saturday? Time and location?
AussieClay
Slight hitch, I will be in London 24 June thru to the following weekend...
We can do this on the following weekend which is 3/4 July.
I would like to do an evening session, Friday night say... and am happy to host.
gamercowboy
That sounds awesome. I was actually wondering about finding a place to have this but you've gone ahead and solved that :) Ok, we've waited this long... July 3/4 sounds good.
AussieClay
Have a further slight issue... our ship doesnt arrive now until 5 July... we can play as I have all the books on pdf on my laptop, but my table here isnt as good as the table on the ship (we're living off a kitchen dining, but my dining table on the ship seats 10 and is great for gaming).
I am happy to still go for the 3/4 July, but it might be a bit slower given lack of books.
Also, anyone offically wanting to play, send me a PM so I can give you my email address and we can start getting an official email chain happening in which i can give out game specific details and addresses etc etc
Would like a party of 5 players... my wife "may" play if needed.
Also, is anyone a subscriber to D&D Insider from Wizards of the Coast? I am and highly recommend it for the character generator alone.
Clay
gamercowboy
I have the books so I can bring those to our game, no worries. As for mailing list, would you prefer I set up a small web site where we can all post details with a bit more privacy? I also have dice, tiles, and some generic miniatures that we can use.
I'm not a D&D Insider member but I have heard that the character generator is awesome. Unfortunately, it only runs on Windows and I'm a Linux guy.
AussieClay
Sounds good! I presume you mean the 4e books...
Yes, i just realised that not only the books, but my battle mats etc for combat are also on the ship! Do you have anything with a 1" grid?
gamercowboy
Yes, 4e core rulebooks. I have this dungeon tile set:
/
It's a mostly indoor set so it's not very flexible but we could make use of it if needed.
gamercowboy
Who else is up for Friday, July 3rd?
BBLBB

July 3rd could be good for me. But i just realised I don't have my dice...anyone know where you can get dice in town?
gamercowboy
I have looked all over town but couldn't find any at all. We can all use my dice though.
AussieClay
I have a spare set...
I dont have a printer though as it is with all my furniture coming from Oz on the 5th so I cant print character sheets etc.
the first session may be simply a "get to know us" session, some character generation and maybe a one off encounter. I have something out of the books that I can run as a campaign intro although I havent got a campaign theme yet...
Having said all this, nobody has PM'ed me re details...
gamercowboy
What sort of details do you need?
AussieClay
No... PM me and I will give you my email addy and phone number... not wanting to plaster that on the forums...
AussieClay
Game was delayed at last minute and is being rescheduled for Friday week!
Players still welcome!!
gamercowboy
So we all met up and had a good time :)
Looking forward to our first real game July 31st. I don't think we need any new players at this point but I'd be glad to help others out in starting their own groups.
AussieClay
Yes, we have 5 PC's now... all good :-)
Speedhump
hey guys can she join?
uncouth
Hey guys, I know I'm a little late discovering this thread, but any chance I could join you guys for DnD, I don't mind even if I just get to watch, I'd like to learn the ropes. I'm 23 and my name's Dhruv. You can call PM me. here :/.

Hey Everyone,
I've just move to Sharjah from the UK. I used to play a lot of 3.5 and 4th ed. Can anybody please put me in touch with fellow gamers in the Sharjah/near side of Dubai area?
Cheers,
Thomas.
