Anyone knows why the taxis here are divided into red, blue and green stripes on the roof?

Maybe there's three different companies? Although, I gotta say, I never noticed the stripes!?

The RTA gave franchises to a bunch of influential companies to run taxis. Each company has a different colour.

I think you will find that the Franchises were paid for, by the highest bidders, the rest is correct.

Actually, I have pondered this before and noticed that some cars from the same 'franchise' (Car's Taxi for instance) can be spotted with all 3 different colours.
Also some cars from two different franchises have the same colours.
And then there's more than 3 franchises, but only 3 colours.
Finally... the colours are blue, red and green. Red and Green I get, but Blue? Should this not be black?
Is this an example of failed implementation of probably a misguided idea to begin with?

OK, I rang the RTA and asked them.
There are more colours, there's also yellow and pink!
The Major
Pink is female only - with female drivers!

the only other colour to add to the list is white, white roofs indicate shared taxis, as major said pink are female only, although I've seen men (not families, men alone) in pink roofed cabs.
For all the other colours, they're the same maybe as S&O said different colours per franchise not sure. either way they are all controlled by Dubai transport

You might have mistaken the red roof ones with the pink ones. I have confused them too, in bad light.
And yes, they are separate colours for separate franchises. The RTA put an ad in the papers to say which colour is which a while ago, and each colour has a different logo on the door. The all-beige ones are pure RTA.

Red = Dubai Taxi (RTA Owned)
Pink = Ladies Taxi (RTA owned)

I guess they dropped the all-beige scheme, as advertised originally.

I could have sworn too I saw some Car's taxi in other colours too.
They ALL have DubaiTaxi logo on them as well.

They are all beige, with RTA signs and colored stripe on the roof top. It is the different color on the roof top which is confusing. But they are all Dubai cabs

CARS used to have silver or white cars before. Some of those old ones might still be around. See closely. The logos on the doors say "Arabia Taxi" "Cars Taxi" etc
