Hello I am new to this forum so apologies if I am covering old ground again for some of you.
I am a British Citizen and I will be travelling to Dubai with my wife in April. The purpose of my travels will be a but of r and r but also to check out the job market.
I will be doing my research prior to my departure so I am coming on this forum to bounce ideas of people and get some advice too.
I am a part qualified solicitor and currently work as a recruitment consultant with around 6 years sales experience. In addition I have completed courses on life coaching and an online TEFL course.
I was wondering what is the scope for someone giving private English tuition in Dubai? and maybe life coaching?
Another thing I wanted to know was if it was a good idea to learn some basic Arabic?
Can you also advise me on good places to stay for my "holiday" which are not too tacky but not too expensive.
Apologies if I am treading over old territory but I am new to this so please be gentle with me. :D

Also am I right in saying that a UK citizen does not need a visa for the 1st 30 days?

You will need a visa and should get a 60 day visit visa.
Start looking for jobs before you come.
Arabic is an advanatage for some jobs but not a necessity
Use the search function
Accom is dependant on your desires beach, culture etc

UK passports are stamped with a 60 day visit visa on arrival.

EU / USA / Aus / NZ and some others do not need a visa, you are given a 60 day stay on arrival at Dubai Int Airport, this is further extendable for 30 days for a fee of Dhs. 500.00

Many thanks for your help.
Silly question but how can I target people letting them know I am offering english tuition?
Can you offer "cash in hand" services- eg tuition of life coaching for cash? I do know that salries are not subject to income tax but I was just wondering :D

The only people I have met that do not Speak English are outdoor maintenance workers, some taxi drivers and girls in shops that only have a subset of the English language.
All these groups earn less than 4,000 per month, and may not really have the cash/need to speak it.
Other than that the official language for business is English

Actually i read it has become a requirment to know english to work in the UAE now. And if you are already working you will have to take a test.

Thanks once again for your replies. So who can I target when it comes to offering private tuition? and would there be a market for life coaching in Dubai?

I am nearing the date of my trip to Dubai, just wondered is there anyway I could offer private english tuition cash in hand?
In terms of jobs it has been advised that I apply for jobs before arriving.
I have worked in sales and have legal qualifications as well as qualifications in recruitment.Do sales jobs pay more in Dubai?
