As far as I know, the palm frond villas sold out 72 hours from going on sale a few years ago mostly to celebrities (the first Palm - Jameirah), but you can still get apartments in the "trunk" of the island.
Last I looked 1 bedroom apartments were about 200k - 300k pounds sterling.
