I have been for a week in Dubai and here are my findings.
So you can see from my perspective - I was in a 5 star hotel paid by company with a + generous daily allowance.
It was quite hot above 40C so no walks on the street - and on the Sheik Zayed bulevard or Meridien (the one by the beach with a strange secondary name) - I cant see any reason to have a walk and see because there is nothing but office buildings, few shops, condominums.
So Thursday Friday Saturday I was in the metropolitan (habtoor) beach club - the entrance fee for non residents of assciated hotels is AED95 + taxi (can be over AED70 roundtrip - depending where are you coming from) - a coffe AED15, a corona about AED30. The place is nice and service good ( jacuzi, buble, beach) add 400AED for 1h jetski.
Other places where I could have social life was in the pub (harvesters)
a beer AED24, BBQ spare ribs AED56, 12oz filet AED160
Chinese Wagamama - AED50 maindish (noodles) and sidedish no alcohol
Others
fast food in Dubai Internet City AED25-40/lunch (no alcohol) + costa cofee AED10-15
Fast food in shopping mall 25 -40 (salad + main dish)
Open bufet brekfast at hotel AED60
Listed price for hotel is AED1700/single
Company paid AED540
If you are alone - and cannot see friends at their home -then - prepare for this costs - unless you enjoy TV or reading
