Dubai belly and stone

Dubai Knight
"Extra napalm with that sir?"

Knight
XPClone I've heard people talking about and referring to the "Dubai stone" and "Dubai belly" a lot recently. Do people really put on much weight when they get to Dubai - is there a reason for this or are they just being greedy porkers? ^ian^ Yes it happens. Mostly because of the over abundance of carb-packed food available everywhere. It happened to me!!! fayz I've gained 30lbs since moving here, .. also to add to what Ian wrote, chances are your life here is more sedate than back home. ^ian^
Or at least less strenuous. There's a theory that the human body needs to walk 10,000 steps a day to maintain healthy weight range, or burn the equivalent energy, this would be very difficult in Dubai. Liban 10,000 steps a day in Dubai??? :) I walk about 100 and thats if I decide to pace around the office talking on my mobile  raidah if true, than dubai will be the next philadelphia  dbxsoul lets get together and the DFM can bring a class action suit against McDonalds, Hardees etc.... raidah
u don t need to worry if ur as slim as ur pet in the avatar
 ^ian^
Did you post twice in order to burn up more calories?

dbxsoul
actually i am :D
.... maybe i should sue because thier food doesn't fatten me raidah lucky u :D dbxsoul high metabolism :) .... and of course having eight legs means that i don't have to excersise a lot ... Alexan Is there any restaurants that provide diet meals (low fat or zero fat) and diet desserts? I am asking because usually I gain weight very quickly so I want to control it when I will be in Dubai soon. dbxsoul well, i can't think of one in particular, but there are litrally hundreds of restaurants covering a multitude of dissaplines. most cater to vegetarian meals due to the number of hindu people living in dubai. Nick81 A month after I got to Dubai I had gained 4Kgs... It's not that bad as I am pretty slim normally, but still for someone who has a high metabolism it's huge  But then Qatar happend... And I lost 6 Kgs... Spicy indian food every single day does that to you. raidah im counting on the heat taking away my appetite dbxsoul raidah, i think you one of these people who says they have to diet, but in actual fact are quiet trim ..... raidah
when i was a teenager i had my periods of keeping diet, but what teenage girl does not?
nope, im not whining around about how fat i am, because im not :D
dbxsoul
just checking ..... raidah
i know :P  dbxsoul besides, i've got nothing better to do this afternoon except make small talk ... XRW-147 Funny, I actually lost weight when I came here. As oppose to some who've become nothing but blobs and bitch and moan about it. Don't see what the fuss is about, there's healthy food out there and its not hard to find it. Liban
Scarabs are very healthy. The desert is full of them. XRW-147
Ummm... protein... Liban Protein build muscle. Muscle good. XRW-147
Thank you Dr Beefcake. Chocoholic Don't forget you need the exercise to turn that protein into muscle, plus you'll be heavier, muscle is heavier than fat. People become so bloody lazy here, taking cars and taxi everywhere. I'd walk if I could. But hey I get out of the lift a few floors short of my office and walk up, always walk down, of course have to dodge the nasty smokers in the stair wells. The food portions are ridiculous, they're fat yank sizes, no wonder people put on weight, I have to always ask for a quarter of the regular portion, it's just too much food! FeiPo I put on 7 kg since I came to Dubai (1 year) ... Liban
Actually I find the portions smaller than in Canada or the States.... FeiPo
Yes the protions here are huge....
and I think I got use to the portions and that maybe one of the reasons while I put on weight. everything here is supersize... even the burgers are bigger than in HK. XRW-147
Likewise. Same as back in Oz though. Texan sizes... my gawd... even I have trouble finishing a plate of food. raidah as long as its not american food (all the time)one can eat, its more than ok. Dubai Knight Simple: Eat curry...crap a lot!   A slim lithe and lissom Knight! arniegang splat a lot you mean DK   Dubai Knight

Well, gotta redecorate the sitting room walls sometime!

Knight arniegang you could have a "pebbledash party"   Dubai Knight
You seen my villa then!

Knight arniegang      Chocoholic ehehehehe, went to a curry house in Karama the other night. 'Yes I'll have the mild garlic prawn curry please' MILD - MILD!!!! It blew my fookin' head off! Cleared the cold a treat though. XRW-147 DF... going right down the shitter. Liban
Went to Black Canyon the other day ordered sweet chicken with vegetables. Supposed to be mild. I nearly pissed my pants so spicy it was... arniegang So if mild has this effect - have you guys considered ordering a Hot one ?   sage & onion Yes, we ordered Take-away, it's being delivered to you in a few minutes  Liban
Yes, I have.
I will make you try it on the 29th.... Chocoholic Oh gawd, I think I'd end up in a right mess. Weird though how yoghurt and milk are better at cooling than water or beer. DaveDXB sscdcd XRW-147
And in more ways than one I'd imagine. Concord Its not the meal or meal time, its the "morning after" while sitting... makhan dubai does that to most. One needs to work harder to maintain a good body. the locals who lived in this part of the work lived of camel milk and seven dates each breakfast, lunch and dinner. One has to make a concious effort to reduce carb and fat intake and exercie a lot. Me and my exgf used to walk a lot. but then she kept walking on an on and I picked another path, on my own.LOL. Variety of cuisines is a blessing in dubai and it comes with its downside too. People are used to exercising their fingers on the keyboards and their vocals in discussing others instead of some real physical stuff. I recently once again went and joined by old gym. it felt real good. Though muscles pain as of now but i know it will be over soon. MaaaD speaking of gyms, i highly recommend Fitness First in Ibn Battuta mall. You get two free sessions with a personal instructor when you sign up. Also there is a lounge with wifi access and refreshments.
