Dress code in Dubai

richy_b Hello; I am planning to visit Dubai next month and was wondering what the dress code is around the area, especially for evening meals in restaraunts (mainly in the Le meridian hotel), and does Ramadan affect the way we're supposed to dress? Any input is appreciated. Cheers
Sara1983 Just wear anythin you normaly wear where you are :D !!! Ramadan, hmm no changes!!! sage & onion
Sara this is not strictly correct.
During Ramadan it is better out of respect for our hosts that people dress modestly, especially in the more public areas. Sara1983
yeah that is if that person was a women. kanelli Actually, it is for men too Sara. 175bpm smart casual 8) Chocoholic Just use your head, obviously don't go wandering aound in public places wearing a vest top and short shorts. Both men and women should dress more modestly during Ramadan. zam Yep,give some respect . I think you have an idea of this w/c is why you posted the Q. If its your way of saying hello to us, then hello there, welcome to DF and Dubai, hope you have a nice time ! Sara1983
men outfits are already fine they don't really need to change
a thing about the way they dress in Ramadan  :!: :!: sage & onion
Not the case Sara, for instance if you go to Sharjah at any time in Short Shorts, the police can stop you.

dbxsoul true - women wearing skirts shorter than knee legnth get a 500 AED fine (last i heard), and i even know someone (a guy) who had his legs painted black for wearing shorts in public ...... "things to do in sharjah when your'e dead" MaaaD Yes just to confirm what S&O and dbx said a friend of the family was arrested in Sharjah while he was outside in the parking lot washing his car in shorts  the guy had to call up the CEO of the company to come bail him out and tell the police he is a respectable manager in a big multinational in dubai!! so if your in Sharjah keep those thighs hidden ;) sage & onion

So how are you dressed today Chocs? Chocoholic As usual in me jeans and jumper as the AC is bloody freezing. I'm always careful of what I wear in certain places, you have to be. sage & onion
Yes that would be the general dress code, right? arniegang
you bloody bloody fibber you
    kanelli I usually wear pants and sleeved shirts. If I do wear a tank top I bring a pashmina along. Sometimes if I am feeling too hot I wear sleeveless tops and skirts to the knee or just below. Because I'm a Western woman I am considered a slut anyway by most non-Western men, so I don't really care if I do offend anyone in that kind of outfit. Back in my home country I don't wear low-cut tops or mini-skirts, so of course I don't do that here either. sage & onion
Now, now arnie, are your comments based on knowledge?   arniegang yes SGO - i can confirm i have seen K's pin's ,beneath a rather short skirt     sage & onion
OK m8, I will take that as Gospel  arniegang SGO It is true i can assure you, K will confirm this, ask her what she wore to our pool    sage & onion
ok, ok, I believe you, I do, I do  kanelli Yeah, I once wore my golf skirt to breakfast with Mr. and Mrs. Arniegang  I only wore it because I hadn't done my laundry. Yes, I did wear a bikini at the pool, but hey - pools are for swimwear. arniegang SGO and a dam fine pair of pin's too i may add :P :P :P sage & onion
WoooooooooooooooooooooooHoooooooooooooooooooooooooo    kanelli  Liar! sage & onion
Gulp  arniegang ignore her SGO, she can be a touch on the shy side at times     kanelli  sage & onion
Judging by the red faced reaction arnie is obviously correct. arniegang we know each other well and are good friends SGO
