You know, prices less than 8USD per year are very strange. Belive me or not, as a person who has been years in this business, those companies who re-sell domains very cheap, will cause problems if you decide to transfer your domain. They will ask much more money at that time. Also, most of them, give you low or even F.R.E.E prices if you get hosting service from them.
Okay, I can also give you a domain F.R.E.E if you also register for one year hosting :-)

That may be true for some companies. Check their TOS and that they're accredited by ICANN for less worry.
I'm happy with the one I use for less than $10 per year per name. The ICANN registration fee was about $6 last time I checked (over a year ago) but sometimes registrars will do a promotion at a low price to attract customers.
Not sure what the story is with .info domains though - they're selling for $0 to $4 at many registrars.
I've found a good place to start for researching domain names and web hosting. Also I heard is good but viewing topics requires payment I think.
Personally, I prefer to keep my domain registrations separate from web hosting.

is a good place to go and read comments but be careful that many hosting companies do indirect advertisements in their posts ;-)
