Do you like martial arts? Sports?

sara_uk
i like your attiude towards martial art because as you said it is an art, alot of people mistake it for violent sport.
nosoup4u
Will do dear. Stay in touch :) Greekman I love martial arts, i used to do Karate (shotokan style) when i was 19 years old. Now i'm in a dojo for Aikido, i found a dojo also in Dubai to be a member after i come late September. I have many DVD's for Aikido, i like to read about martial arts, i really like the philosophy and i always try to absorb the actual meaning of a martial art to my personal life, i'm trying to be peaceful and calm and have a clear mind. In combination with Art of War you can be very succesful in your personal life i believe, everything that book saying about tactics can be performed in business as well :!: torontonion wooooww sara nice entry man ... btw do u walk around with a board ... 'look but dont touch' or 'be careful i can kick at the right and wrong place' sara_uk
Iam going christmas time too, if you decide to go, may be we can meet there. sage & onion

Good on yah Sara nosoup4u
aargh!!! u lucky lucky devil! Send us pictures when you're squeezing through tires and jumping over cars :P
Whats the training camp cost by the way? Instead of looking for a stupid job here, i'd rather learn myself a new art, if its in my budget :) sara_uk thanks sage if it continue i will report it. sara_uk
cool, i have watched onbak the guy is amazing. have you watched warrior king?
everyone say that muay thai is the ultimate and i really like the moves. the training camp iam going to is in the same island onbak was recorded. sage & onion
Well I beg to differ, if it didn't bother you then you wouldn't have mentioned it. Maybe you should report the ones that DO bother you.
Anyways, its up to you.
Have a good one. sara_uk
it does not bother me really,i just ignore the silly ones. if someone have something to say then i do not mind but iam getting hi like million time. nosoup4u Muay Thai!! The Ultimate of all martial arts! See this movie if you haven't.. ONGBAK In this movie DVD, they show you the five basic Muay Thai moves.. I've kinda been practicing for the heck of it :P Check out their website I used to be a boxer and I wanna learn Muay Thai too.. my dweam too :P sage & onion
Are you serious?
You have to complain to the Mod's, if you didn't solicit the contacts then you have every right to complain.
This really annoys me  sara_uk Thanks sage, that will stop the pm flood now
sage & onion
I agree you sound so sweet and peacefull, wow, say one wrong word and she will kick your head off      sara_uk I love martial art, I enjoy watching martial art movies and I started learning kick boxing. Iam going To Thailand to learn muay thai, it is my dream holiday. Anyone here enjoy martial art? by the way iam not violent person  Greekman It's a way of life i believe, i see many people they're taking classes just to go out and beat the crap out of a poor guy. I really don't like it, you better rent some wrestling dvd's and save your money as well. Violence is hidden inside every human being, we alone decide to take it out or not.... constantine i used to learn karate (direct contact)...and yes it is a way of life...and some people do misuse it...but having said that...the benefits that derive out of learning or following martial arts are enormous...the decipline, cotrol, respect, self worth, maturity and aware of responsibility is in fact gifts that you gain well before your time...i personally believe the benefits a teenager would derive or the maturity and self confidence instilled in that person...is life changing...wanna re visit the dojo... ...my knee is acting up though...and its so much better than going to a gym and looking like a lab rat.... Greekman Con, i agree with everything you're saying, about the knee don't worry, when i go for practice i look like an Egyptian mummy  After so many years of basket, martial arts, football, cycling, weight lifting my knees, wrists, ankles are totally messed up. So don't worry, you'll be fine believe me :D fayz totally agree with what was written above, it is a skill and great way to teach a child discipline, control, respect, etc. I took Tae Kwan Do when I was a young’n it didn’t make me violent, quite the opposite it taught me how week bullies and the like really were and that they were a waste of my time. The key to getting the most out of a martial art though is finding the right school some schools/teachers only teach the physical not the mental which imho is more important. Good luck Sarah and soup, sounds like it’ll be a blast. Oh and I’ll look for both of you in the next bloodsport sequel, Van Damme is old now    constantine
true true...finding time to go after squash and being out most of the times is the difficult part...lol...but will start again soon...am really looking forward to it actually  sara_uk Iam really happy to meet people who have similar attuide to mine. I was introduced to martial art through a work mate who I really respect, he is been learning martial art since he was a kid and he is very calm person and he always tell me that martial art thought him this. I know he is well trained and can beat anyone in the street which shouts abuse or racist remark but he always tell me there is no need to fight unless you are force to defend yourself. I am fed up of people who does not understand the art and call it violent sport. Anyway my question is for those people believe in martial art as way of life would you teach your kids the art? If so in which age Look here what age those little cute fighters started constantine
never too early...but probably at the age of 8 for my kids (if i end up having any)...reason being thier bodies are highly adoptabel to the environment and flexible enough to make all the moves flawlessly...and by the time they are 18 they would really be well advanced and mature enough to handle anything that comes thier way...i quit matrial arts when i was 19 after a year and a half...bcoz it was a choice between playing the guitar or training to become a real student...in short your wrists have to be flexible while playing the guitar...whereas martial arts we had to shove our hands into sandpits and make them almost non flexible and firm...thank god i play the guitar quite well...hahahahaha St.Lucifer Havent even reached the end of the beginning of my Dubai exploration. but thanks for the info. I love martial arts havent learned though. But i love it. Just for the fact that it enhances your endurance mental n physical and more imp Spiritual. Would love to do when i get some time of my own away from work. Greekman Around 7-8 years old i believe it's a good age to start a kid a martial art, it will help to develop in early stages the mind and it's very important for both (parents & kids) to have something to do other than drugs, especially when they're in the difficult ages of 13-17. girl_glen
You go girl. Keep us updated. Do you have to learn some basics before going there? Bleakus I love Basketball is weightlifting a sport or a hobby? im not sure bushra21 mmm before i moved to dubai and became the ummm chubby (but still s e x y mind you) girl that i am, i was on the field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, basketball, swim, and volleyball team. i did kickboxing for around 3 and a half years and took judo lessons since i was 13....all that has changed now....im lucky if i even get to go out for a run -- damn boys. i kno i kno, there are gyms....well i dont like the gyms here, i guess im just used to the ones in the states + i dont like most of the local girls that go to the gyms...mainly for personal reasons. Bleakus There is one thing that puts me off at the gym..... Its kind of funny when you see some people (Men and Women) who go to the gym without making an effort on the exercises. Not many people really sweat at the gym. Always when you go to the gym you have to give it 110% XRW-147
I used to do muay thai and still enjoy a spar now and then - mind you its been ages since the last time. sara_uk
no you do not have to know alot. It is intense training to achieve that. They recommend that for absolute beginner you need 3months and you will be able to take a fight. Iam only going for a month but my personal trainer is kick boxing trained and she is training me, although kick boxing is quite different from muay thai but it will help a lot. Bleakus i miss thailand, its such an awesome place to be ;( mraph33
If you're talking about weights/strength work - I wouldn't use sweat as a measure to the effort people are putting forth. When I leave the gym, I can't move my arms, but there isn't a bead of sweat on me. Bleakus
some people dont sweat as much when training....thats true
if you have problem where you can move the next day after training, try to do stretches after you done training.....it helps.....oh yes drink loads of water also sara_uk mraph i agree I think it is common misconception that if you sweat more then you are doing ok. That why people go to really hot gym trying to squeeze the water out. My trainer told me the best way is to go to well aired gym and any sweat is result of your work out not because of the heat of the gym, that way you are just losing water. zam When the right time comes, Im going to enroll my son in a martial arts school .... as for sports...its only swimming for me now adays  sgt_noodles I took taekwondo lessons when I was a teen, even won a school tournament. I thinking of learning something new before I hit the 30's... Anyone hear anything about Krav Maga? It's the latest craze in the martial arts world, and apparently its extremely effective in a real "street fight" situation, unlike taekwondo, which is just a sport. Does anyone know whether Krav Maga is being taught in the UAE? Since it was developed by the Israeli Special Forces, I doubt if anyone teaches it here. sara_uk sgt noodles i heared about this one but not sure if it is been thought anywhere! anyone do capoeira ? it is amazing brazlian martial art, is it a fight a dance?? Bleakus
its an amazing dance to watch and to do, but i would never use it to fight somebody, it might provoke the other side of kick my ass even more.....you know what i mean? sara_uk
lol i know what you mean. someone you fighting and you tell them wait i need to do my dance  but it is use for defense because you can move faster than your opponent, if anyone watched Worrier king made by the same guy who done ong bak. there was a fight in the temple with brazilian doing capoeira Jeevan now some people are gonna hate me for this but i play cricket and have played professionally, also a bit of TT, BB and used to work out heavily before as well but now? no time. i am just dyin to join a gym, though i get in touch with all these places in dubai for my job i cant join any :( J DaveDXB tell me abt it.....i used ot be a gym fanatic. Now i work too much...i had a car accident and spent my fortune on a damn new car. The best alternative im thinking of is to buy a set of dubmles for abt 250, the whole set with weights n stuff. -1 long bar -2 dumbles - with differing weights and just lightly exercise for 45 minutes at home day after day Princess Banana Hammock There's a fab Martial Arts and Martial dance place next to Capri Sonne on the Sheikh Zayed Road. State of the art faacilities and an awesome juice bar. Just opened and offering 2 free private lessons and it's open 10am-11pm everyday!!! I'm definitely gonna take up kickboxing. Need to lose the extra pounds I've gained in Dubai!!!!! Anyone wanna come with?!!? Jeevan
princess can you send me the details i mean the name and contact information, if they are new they are noton my list and i need to add them :)
cheers
J St.Lucifer Great.. Would love to learn some sorta martial arts.. guys pls post the address n other stuff if u get more details. Princess Banana Hammock Their website address is: (T) 04 339 5588 Happy Kickboxing!! sara_uk Princess if you have not done kick boxing you will defiantly enjoy it. It is very nice sport and fun and you can burn a lot without realising it. St.Lucifer Thanks a lot priness. 4 the link.. just waitin for their reply.. i'm an absolute newbie to kick boxing, lets see how does it work out.. mraph33
Its possible to burn calories with a wide variety of activities in a health club. The group classes all come down to one thing, the quality of the instructor. Not only regarding their ability to challenge a heterogeneous group physically, but also to make the class interesting so you'll enjoy it. mraph33
I would pass on the barbell, get a fit ball/swiss ball and a jump rope. When I was doing personal training in people's houses that's what I would bring....and the workouts were really great (if I do say so myself). sara_uk
is that what steven segal does?? sage & onion
Does he really do the Martial arts os is it just acting along with a stunt man? Andyba Speaking of martial arts.. I'm into Traditional Jujitsu at the moment... Really enjoy it... mind blowing stuff! Not for everyone though.. too much pain.. asc_26
It's an ancient martial arts. I like the soft style as i am a woman. :D sara_uk Bringing this back again since your tube was banned Look here what age those little cute fighters started, they are so cute asc_26    I like it sara. Boxing little boys. I love watching WBF, WBC..well mexicans dominate the featherweight, bantam divisions and some asian champions too. Legendkiller
*SICK* sara_uk
Why is it sick?? These kids learn martial art as a way of life not to attack people. Martial art is very important to some countries but sadly, not a lot of people around the world understand the true meaning of martial art. brayker
You're right sara, for these kids, its not really a vicious sport but a part of their culture. So how long will your training in Muay Thai be? Sounds really interesting! sara_uk
I would love to go for 6 months but it will be difficult at the moment iam thinking to go for a month. brayker Yeah well a month would be good, and if you really like it you could plan a much longer trip the next time around! Do update us once you're there ya? Used to do taekwondo when till my teens but stopped short of getting my black belt, but frankly speaking .... *whispers* its sooooo boring! :) sara_uk
is it??I do not know I have not done it for a long time but I really enjoy kick boxing iam doing it 3 times a week. I feel the time pass very quickly, I really hate the gym and I find it repetitive but kickboxing so far it has been fun. brayker Everyone tells me kickboxing is fun and a great workout .. which reminds me *taps belly* i need to get rid of this, too much beer and mutton makes a deadly diet!!  sara_uk
trust me you are not alone, i do not have beer belly but i have put on weight while been stressed with my studies and sitting in the pc for over 16hr a day. kickboxing put me in great shape in no time. i start doing karate few years ago but i got bored easily and i gave it up. i know i will stick to kick boxing, because it is great fun, espcially if some one is in your mind to kick then what best way taking it out in the punch bag
another one which seem fun but iam not that flexible for it yet is capoeira ? it is amazing brazlian martial art, a fight ??a dance!!!
asc_26 WOW! the list of wanting to be in "kickboxing" is getting longer. :D Enjoy ladies! It's really effective physical fitness. :D JackTheRipper By speaking about martials arts, I am into a new discipline : Artistics martial arts also know as Musical Form or Trickz (you can see some on ) and as I am coming to Dubai next year, i would like to know if anyone interested by organizing a training crew for freestyle martial arts/parkour, that kind of stuff... Anyone ? :P sara_uk
iam sure he does some form of martial art, not sure what though!! asc_26 I am still sleepy. I watched the boxing held in Las Vegas. Gosh, the main event only lasted for 3 rounds...the mexican figther (the former WBC, WFC) knock down. WOAH!!!..End of the mexican regime... isabela
Hey Manny Pacquiao won!!! :wav:
yippeee...   dave101 ive done kung fu, kickboxing and muay thai, im still supposed to be doing muay but im so busy with work, ive only been like 10 times in the last 12 months!! well im coming to dubai for a year from dec 2006, so i hope there are places to do these things. otherwise i will stay in the hotel gym and get fit that way (boring) sara_uk tell me about it, i hate gym!! so boring i love outdoors kashif

Ditto. I enrolled for three months and I just went in twice only. What a waste of money!
Now, Im enjoying my kickboxing classes - though it's very tiring. But it is very good exercise and self defense too. I think Im gonna give up smoking soon. dubailover
Famous last words....(as she throws a kick) hehehehe asc_26
Good to hear that weary. :D Hmm...how's muscles pain? (for the first week of training). weary_heart
That's the not so good part of kickboxing!!! :D Awwww - my legs.... but I'll get used to it. I have thrice a week classes. So it should be ok soon. ;) asc_26
Your muscles will be fine soon. :D Hmm.. you will really feel ligth after 2 weeks of continous training and ohh..refreshing feelings - all your negative vibes were kickout. weary_heart

Ain't that the truth  weary_heart
hee hee
C'mon we need to defend ourselves - kickboxing is best for streetfighting! hahaha sage & onion
Don't get me wrong WH, I am not denying you the right to defend yourself, I only wish more ladies would take it up. weary_heart
That's why I asked Asc and Zam to join me, unfortunately they couldnt.
I have only one lady classmate in KB who happens to be my officemate. he he he sage & onion
I got the impression that Zam has done some training before. weary_heart
Im not sure if Zam had done boxing before. (I know she was active in mountain/rock climbing way back in college) sage & onion
I thought it was boxing, maybe she will put us straight if she comes on today. weary_heart
Right. She's probably busy. asc_26
So we can easily break the nose of peeps who cross our path with cheeky & frisky pick up lines. :D
Awws...for the giant peeps..better throw stones at them and run for your life.   weary_heart
Nah. You can give them a kick on the groin. hahaha  dave101 i just heard an advert for kb on sheikh zayed road, is it any good? im out of shape and raring to get it all back! previously done kung fu, and thai boxing, both for years SNA33Y I was once addicted to Martial Arts!!!! If they had a MAA support group i would have been there. As a black belt in Karate i became state champion in my mid teens. I then decided to go extreme and started stick fighting, kickboxing, jujitsu and grappling. I even went as far as killing the nerves on my shins with a rolling pin so that it wouldn't hurt when hitting bone on bone. Too many Jean Claude Van Damme movies during my impressionable years if you ask me. Apart from sparring in the gym with boxing buddies for some fitness i have left it all behind. Too hectic with career etc... I'm moving to Dubai next week and would love to get back into some sort of martial art. Any suggestions??? PTMike Hey guys, Mike's the name and I'm from Aus. Hopefully moving to Dubai within the next 2-3 months. Very interested in fight gyms in dubai. Specifically muay thai. any help would be awesome. cheers
