    I would like to point out a small error in SGO's post. You do not need to produce or have residency to connect water and electricity.
    [color=red] From my experience dewa need a copy of your passport and normally want to the residency visa as well if you are renting. This is to prevent people renting their properties to their spouses at a discounted rate to reduce the housing fee (property tax) which is 5% of the rent (See next para). But if you are an owner, they don't need a residency visa and the property tax is 0.05% of the purchase price per annum. [/color]
    Also dont forget the new property tax is payable in addition to your services on a mothly basis and this equates to 5% per annum of the purchase or rental.

The housing tax for owners is 0.5% not 0.05% as stated of the purcgase price per annum dividied by 12 and billed monthly. benwj

[/b] XPClone I have an apartment sorted in Dubai Marina (1 bed apartment). I have some questions on the DEWA connection. I tried calling them but they were of no help. 1. Would the water and electricity be working in the apartment? Its a new building (The Waves). 2. If not I will have to activate it very soon as I will be out there at the end of the month. What do I need to get this done? 3. Can I do this from the UK or will I have to be in Dubai? 4. Is there any other further cost apart from the 2000dhs deposit? 5. If I do have to do this from Dubai how long does it take for them to connect it? I don't want to be without water and power when I arrive? Thanks for your help! sage & onion

[color=red] When you actually take over the apartment you will need to go to Dewa with your Passport copy (must have a residence permit) in order to get your account completed, but as I said before normally DAMAC must have this in hand for the initial period through the Contractor [/color]
