LOL :lol: Dubai Knight What we need is Cargirl to organise a fleet of demo Hummer H3's...we can then hitch a small caravan to the back of each one and look like a bunch of pikeys! Went back weighting 3 kgs extra, from the sand I gathered. :x Concord No worries DK. We will all be riding camels from the highway shoulder to the oasis. How's the planing going? Bueller?... Anyone?... Dubai Knight If we are going out in the desert...don't ask me to drive! Unwittingly did a shed load of damage to a mates 4x4 on friday, despite literally hundreds of hours of desert driving experience on 3 continents! Sometimes it just goes wrong and in this case a little ridge at the bottom of a big dune just caught us out! On the same trip another mate managed to jump his Jeep over 20 metres on a flat section of sand...lots of bruises and swearing but no broken vehicle! :shock: :shock: :shock: Knight constantine

Rent an huge tent somewhere find a spot, bring food and drink, etc. After all isn't the desert one of the truly local places. One bar/restaurant , two bar/restaurant, three bar/restaurant same here as in Mongolia.... Just a thought. I leave the logistics to others... Jeevan wouldnt mind if we throw in some action, sandboarding and dune buggys :) jerry sage & onion

Did I use that excuse? I think the one I really used was "I was avoiding a 'sand snake'..." they are exactly the same colour as the sand, appear in front of you and cause you to take avoiding action/hit something/trash the motor...then disappear again! Very hard to spot you know!

If we can get enough interest I'll work to make sure that we can get a desert camp to ourselves for the evening. i.e. only DFM members and their guests Budget around AED 250/person for desert safari, food, shisha, henna and the like. We are doing a private gig first, but the working title is 'Visit Visa'. very much a guitar based rock outfit and the sound is coming together nicely. If it all goes to plan, we may be playing public venues before too long and have already been approached by a couple of promoters who have liked what they heard...just needs a bit of 'polishing'!
Will let everyone know where and when they need to buy earplugs!

People Talk the Talk, But do they Walk the Walk ? Dont want to appear too negative. My own experience of organising nights out. You need to get a deposit as soon as possible before booking the event, at least 25% of people will make an excuse the same night they agreed to come. 30% the next day and if your lucky you will end up on the night with 30% of the original people. To most it's a case of it seemed like a good idea at the time or everybody else was going so i decided too ! Regards. :roll: BabyDoll

I think Soupie has just been unlucky, or more likely, NO ONE on DF drinks JUST tea. :oops: :roll: St.Lucifer Its utterly sad that the Tea party thing didnt happen, but its just a one off incident, i've attended a couple of them... n the turn out was good... usually more people turn up than expected. And freon MAN (dont use boy, man :shock: :) :) ) I thought your comments were disappointing and demoralizing, even a bit too early if u'vent attended any of the DF meets.

I’ve been involved with organizing a couple of events and they have all went off without a hitch including the first ever DF meet so I’m going to give this a shot and think positive. Okay here is the deal. It’ll be Nov 24, if I get a minimum of 20 people I can make our own private after safari tent event. The price will be base 150 plus the extras that we choose, I’m going to say everyone budget aprox. 200, closer to 300 if you want to camp plus alcoholic beverages if you’re inclined. The stuff that’ll be included. • Desert Safari (typical landcruiser in the sand event) • Henna • Shisha • Food • Sunset in the sand, • **** I think most of you have done similar events so you know the score. The options are • Camping (tents and breakfast will be provided) o Oh and for Sara, yes there is a 60% chance of bathrooms • Having a lamb (traditional meal), all the expats here in previous posts who’ve never had a traditional local meal should definitely get in on this. • And a couple surprises that’ll be mentioned at a later date What I need from you, if you want to come, let me know, we’ll arrange for a deposit.
