Dubai Expat Forum - Dubai Romance

Dating in Dubai

blue moon Hi everyone. I have read quite a lot of this forum, and feel it's time to step out of the shadows.. I am looking to go to Dubai for work this year. I am an Aussie, 33, tall, fit and healthy, normal type of bloke. I am not trying to pick up now as obviously I live in Australia, just looking to get a feel of the singles scene from a few perspectives really. I would like to meet expats with similar interests when I go over. What is the dating scene like in Dubai? From what I read, it seems people are more interested in casual relationships, than long term (casual is not really my thing). Would that be correct? The laws of living together while unmarried would make it difficult I assume. Do many people not have time for getting out and meeting people, and focus on their careers mostly? Would like to hear peoples thoughts on the matter.
^ian^
I would say highly active, but it is also a small city, so can be a little incestuous at times. i.e. in my circle of friends there's quite a few people who have all slept with each other.

There are people here who are only interested in a casual relationship, and there are people here who are interested in more. Its a bit of a mix.

Not really. The laws of living together unmarried are rarely enforced unless you're a total tard and make a scene or give cause for them to be applied. i.e. keep your head down and behave and you will be ok.

There are a few types of people:
1. Career focused, want to make as much money or grow their career as best as possible and don't usually have time for a relationship.
2. Balanced - focus on a mix of building their career but without sacrificing their social life.
3. Party animals - here for a good time, not a long time. Drink, root, sleep around, turn up to work hungover all the time, not saving not progressing - but having one helluva great time whilst doing it.
And then you get various shades of grey in between. Chocoholic I think you pretty much nailed it Ian. I hate the dating scene here, it's a nightmare, really hard to find anyone genuine. Think I'll just become a nun. Anteater Gosh Blue Moon... wish I was single!!!  blue moon Thanks Ian :) Chocoholic - Surely, it is no fun being a nun.. Anteater - lol. Thanks for the confidense boost.. something I needed after my recent breakup...At least now I am free to search for a job OS.. So the way I see it is due to Dubai being a small city there is not many degrees of seperation between people? Don't go burning any bridges, eh, lol. All the other issues I raised seem to be no real different to other cities... Well, hopefully I have not left it too late to catch a ride on the Dubai express :D Chocoholic Degrees of seperation are indeed small, the place can be like a village at times, and everyone knows everything about everyone else. Trying to keep a lid on here is very difficult indeed. JMK dating scene in Dubai - mostly "plastic" ... on the personal note - may I ask why did you call yourself a "blue moon"???? ... . blue moon [quote="JMK"]dating scene in Dubai - mostly "plastic" ...

well, thats disapointing. I am too career focused to bother with the whole "player" scene..
lol...let's just say it is a play on words of my name. I didn't really think when registering.
It's not meant to signify anything really, no double meanings... JMK
(huge sigh of relief) ... :) .. JMK I got it Your name is : Lue Bmoon .. :) .

You mean like you are not a wolf? blue moon Seems relationships don't count for much over there. I love my job, and would really like to get some international experience and challenges. Surely not everyone in Dubai is plastic? JMK
BabyDoll - don't scare him away... we don't have enough 33, strong, healthy and normal males in Dubai .... BabyDoll
What you have in this city is a rather large bunch of young crowd (under 30) who is still enjoying life, party as if there is no tomorrow. When you hit 30 and over, there is a difference. Most of us hit mid life crisis at this stage :P no i am just joking
Then you have the above 40 and I will just leave it at at ! 8) Chocoholic BD, what do you mean there's a difference when you're over 30?! hehehe - the 30 - 40 year old crowd still party like there's no tomorrow, it's like they're rediscovering their student days - uhum! MC But then they will have their own corner in the club with the 40 - 50 crowd :P blue moon JMK - Not quite.... :D Baby Doll - Wolf? Not a term used in Australia, although I can probably guess what you mean. If my assumption is correct, the answer would be no. Scare me away...Not a chance. I have looked into it for quite some time, and am very commited. Just one small problem... A job :) I'm confident I can secure one, just depends if it is the right one.. JMK Ok, since I am bored..here we go: Your name is: Noble Umo? BabyDoll
Oh yes. I forgot !!
BabyDoll
HA HA. He is probably a personal trainer with huge biceps  BabyDoll
In what? The job? or the relationship? blue moon I don't mean to scare anyone else away lol. I am not asking for any favours regarding a job in this thread. Just guaging the social scene in Dubai. I think I have a bit more of a picture of how things are now. There is only so much you can find out about a place from google and reading... JMK - Sorry to lead you astray. Blue moon has relevance to my real name, but is not made up from the letters if that makes sense? Baby Doll - not a personal trainer. I work in the audio visual industry. BabyDoll
We are having a go at you, newbie. Get use to it here. Wait till you meet Concord and Ian and the other banterers 8)
p/s learn how to use the quote function, otherwise you get branded for life - like me  blue moon
Well I was talking about the former, but I mean the latter as well.. blue moon
No offence taken.. :)
I'm used to different forums with different quoting system..
So what area do most expats live? I am not a fan of traffic, and would prefer to be in the centre possibly the marina, although i'm sure it would be getting pretty expensive there these days.. JMK
ahhh...men....  . blue moon Cheerio peoples...I'm off to bed. It's nearly midnight, and I don't want to turn into a pumpkin.. St.Lucifer
:) :) mid life crisis.. :D Chocoholic Hmmm the forum ladies get a little overzealous once again, watch out BM, they'll eat you alive! blue moon
Sorry about the in securing a position in dubai. Yes! Commited in furthering my career? Yes! Regarding a relationship... Well, that's another story. In my experience many women are very pretentious, and that is not a very attractive atribute for them to have. I'm sure Dubai would not be an exception to this generalisation.
I'm sure I will find her one day. I thought a had, but that is no more... reviewer
Yeah they haven't had one lately and you seems to be tasty enough     mrs Robinson is there anything more off putting than a guy looking for a serious relationship...just go with the flow and who knows what comes your way...relax....a serious relationship isn't a guarantee for happiness you know... nismo
a guy looking for serious relationship?? do they have people like that around still?? lol blue moon [quote="mrs Robinson"]is there anything more off putting than a guy looking for a serious relationship...quote]

Yup, just fuck every girl you see
Edit: Yeah uhh for the record, I didn't actually say love...Just figure it out. mrs Robinson [quote="blue moon"]

Men give fun for love. Girls give love for fun. Finally, Girls hate being alone, because when They are, They don't feel important. They wonder what's wrong with us and why no one wants us! tiktakbaba hi...new to the forum...well dating in dubai is surely high with every third person having an affair...as of now its difficult to say whether it plastic or not but i surely had bitter experience in love here...so i look for fun and casual relationship in dubai which i did not find yet...cheers vishalshamji been here only 10 or so days, went out to two of the recommended night spots! Chi at The Lodge n Buddha Bar.... Gotta say....alot more fine females than i'd expected coming from a slaggish London scene! But just dont know! Women....very flirty, but seem held back maybe cos of local customs! Partied,trashd...more or less done it all in London especially in my haydays (uni) and also around the world (Miami/LA/Ibiza/Ayianapa)...but the western expats (normally the ones i go for, altho beautiful iranian chics here too) feel a bit scared possibly of the public laws here.... Dont know if im wrong n its just my perception! But c'mon, out in the western world i could go out any night of the year n get laid!! (sorry it sounds sooo bad). Out here in the clubs, had a quite a few females grab my hand, give me that look n dissapear..... (BTW....trust me my games up to stratch!). Is the chat-up scene the same here as the west? cos i dont want the feds to be called on me! any comments........................... vishalshamji P.S. IN REPLY TO BONBONBOI! Any offers?!!..................... vishalshamji Ouch! wow MissChoco....some real harsh words there.....feel my eyes watering from those comments! 1) As for experience with women-dont feel the need to comment about that on any internet blog. 2) Talk about loosening up, whats this.....Has Dubai life extracted your sense of humour? 3) As for substance, dont rush to form opinions. (4) I dont think the Lebanese expats in Dubai would appreciate your comments and (5) you're not in any sort of position to tell me where i belong. Remember.....Choco, loosen those shoulders. Life's about having a smile and sometimes acknowledging comments lightly.... Chocoholic OMG - Vishal, I really wonder if you've had any experience with women at all - you have it soooooo wrong! Get over yourself, poser boys like you are 2 a penny here and don't wash with most girls. You act like that and all you're going to attract are the gold digging, superficial girls. Clearly there's no substance to you. Go out and find the plastic Lebanese set, as clearly that's where you belong. Chocoholic Maybe I've been here too long, but I can pretty much sound people out straight away these days. Hahaha I have a lot of Lebanese friends actually, so yeah I am in a position to comment. Hulahula
Just show up at the first nightclub you see. You'll find a guide for as litte as 100 aed an hour  madgraphics
I'm Lebanese and I totally agree with you!! desertdudeshj Finally a Lebanese admiting to being plastic. Speedhump Walking past Boudoir on a weekend night is like wandering onto the set of some weird S+M/fetish/space film mashup.....I'm afraid I generally end up laughing at the state of the women and have to look at the floor. Reminds me of the bondage gear scene in the UK in the 70's, but at least that was a political statement, for a few months anyway :P clamspirit Stop spamming. As for the thread, I find it really hard to meet nice guys with my job and living three emirates away from Dubai. It takes its toll. Speedhump
How does your job stop you meeting nice guys, does it also stop you meeting bad guys too? :)
Also, strange name clamspirit, any meaning? mandrake hey just arrived from nz and first weekend coming up, any nice female wishing to show me the night life? am late 30s, 6" professional:) sharfraz there you go chocs!!!! clamspirit
Well, I work alone in an office with "guys" being much older technicians and engineers, who do not really mingle with my line of work.
Clamspirit doesn't mean much. Speedhump

After a hard day's work, traffic woes, rent hikes, backstabbing colleagues, declining pay checks.......(feel free to add)
all one really wants is a rump in the sack, and a good nights sleep.
Kapish?
And it's a proven fact that during recessions and depressions the only ones dancing all the way to the banks are prostitutes and escorts. Leda What does "rump in the sack" mean? RobbyG

Ohhhh!!... Yeahh!!!............ lol... alineahdubai you can get girl friends easily in dubai .There are lots of pubs in dubai Aamir111 The discussion makes me feel good, that i am 31 and single. abyssdesire Alright... here it goes I've been in Dubai for like 8 months now and did not manage to find that special someone. Is it the hairy nose or lack of hygiene? who knows. All I know is that I put myself out there everyday with my only ironed gray shirt and white caprice pants. Now white and gray my not be exciting for many but I find it a fascinating combination. So, to hell with Dubai's dating circle. Lower your standards. skullslasher m 18 nd just broke up ..dang it xD Chocoholic Gray shirt and white pants? erm most women with think you bat for the other team with that combination. Misery Called Life
If you've got the height to pull it off, than grey shirts and white pants is a pretty kicka$$ combo.
Loose Linen white pants, and a good fitting linen grey short or folded sleeves shirt would look cool.
I prefer it the other way round, Grey trousers over a white shirt. It's a damn sophisticated look!
er computer says 'NO!' Misery Called Life
  I think the computer is a very conservative dresser  Think faded grey..... Chocoholic Nope, only a black dude icould pull of that look. Someone like Jamie Foxx, on a white dude it would look ridiculous or gay! Misery Called Life It definately ain't a fat man or a thin man's look. Yea a black man aka Mr Foxx would ace the look. Infact there are two looks here. A goodfitting grey shirt with white skinnies....I call it the artist's look. N it's take loads of attitude to pull this off. It's for some one like Kayne West! The second look would be white low waist khakis( French Connection), white kicks, and a good fitting grey linen shirt, top button open. Come to think of it it's a languid, sexy, sailor look! This look is all about good height and a toned upperbody. The key to making this look work are the short sleeves. They should be a good two inches above the elbow and must fit the arm perfectly. Anyone with a decent physique can pull this off. In fact the grey may not compliment a black's skin colour, while it will stand out nicely on a bronze tanned guy or a fair guy.( Think Ronaldo, Fernando Torres, Nadal) D74 :D This is interesting... Misery Called Life Hey Chocs whadya think of this look?
Chocoholic Camp as hell! No man should ever wear shorts that short! IceQueen Hey, New to the forum... and new to a lot of things regarding lovely Dubai... Yes I've fallen flat face in love with both Dubai City and a local man from Dubai... and I concider strongly moving there. I have been there few times.. and my problem is not the "list over what a girl want" as I can provide most of that my self... in fact I have properties down there in Dubai and UAE.. My local is a muslim I'm a christian, he wants to marry me... but he does not know how much money I got.. but he is a normal working guy... and since we have not known eachother that much, even though I truely belive I love him.. it's hard when you can't live togehter in dubai without marriage.. and long distance and holiday dating is ofcouse different from the every day life.. my concern is, if.. I marry him, what rights do I have, and what would happen to my finances that I have in Dubai, and also rest of the world?? Do they do pre.nups in Dubai?? He is quite modern... and soooooooooooooooooo yummi... Anyone that has any advice, please?? abyssdesire First of all, you cant live together unmarried OFFICIALLY, but you can unofficially. I have a place here and I've lived there with my girl for months. I suggest moving in and then figure out the little ins and outs. Secondly, pre-nups do exist, you just have to dig in a lot more. Dubai, at the moment, has tendency of making new rules on spur of the moment. Once you are here, you can always go to the court and check. Infact, they have a 800 number you can call and ask the court clerk for clarifications. It sounds to me that you are more concerned about the finances aspect of this marriage than anything else. Protect yourself, protect your money. Narine Hi everyone! I can say that the most best way to find man or woman for long term relationship you must ask yourself whom you want, what kind of must be by soul and other things. If u understand who can be you will find very fast. Good luck! coolpista
Another thing you should ask yourself is whether at all you want to get into a commitment or not!
