I know all of you are going to start make incorrect assumptions but it really isn’t for me, I’m just asking the question as I was out with some friends last night and the subject came up.
Can you have civil service/non-denominational marriages in the UAE if you are an expat? What if one of the parties is muslim?
fayz
expat help would be good, thank you mr. gang :)

In the UK, couples can have a "civil marriage". This means they can be married by "a registrar". He or she is not a priest etc and the wedding can take place anywhere that is authorised. This means a couple does not have to marry in a church or mosque etc.
The reason for this is that some faiths/religions do not allow some people to marry if they have been previously married/divorced etc.

Doesn't it have more to do with the fact that some people who have no religious beliefs may not want to get married in a church/mosque?

fayz to answer your question, i highly doubt it. I remember it was such a big deal when lebanon started having Civil marriages and it was considered unconventional. So i doubt that the UAE has it, but i am just speculating.

Funny you mention Lebanon as one of the friend's was Lebanese and mentioned exactly what you did, there was a big uproar when they allowed it.
I did a bit of search and found this though

Not only that - but inter-faith marriages are also a reason for civil marriages.

I think you can if both parties are not Muslim. If one is, then I don't know.
Female non-muslim can marry a male muslim but male non-muslim has to convert before marrying a female muslim.

I have no clue, why not just run off to canada and get married

I take that back. I think it's
yes (at Dubai Courts) - if both are Muslim,
maybe - if one is Muslim (the male),
no - if both are non-muslim.

- If ur marrying a muslim woman, and ur not, then big NO.
- If ur both muslims, then just going to the courts would be enoughi. (get urself 2 wittnesses, if u couldnt find any, i am sure anyone at the courts would gladly be a wittness)
If both are non-muslims and ur planning to get married in UAE.....i am pretty sure you will need to go to a priest. (correct me if i am wrong )
fayz
Thanks all, appreciate the help :)
