I'll soon be travelling to karachi from New york and will have a transit in Dubai for a couple of hours. What is the best and cheapest way to call karachi from dubai airport so that I can call my friend to confirm my arrival time and everything. Any services? website for phonecards, etc..?

Yes, there are pay as you go internet access points and international credit card operated payphones. If your mobile is roaming enabled, Etisalat is on the international GSM network and you should be able to use it here too.
