Ballbraker In New York.
Bora Bora Can you give us a link to this??? Chocoholic Hey what's new in New York. Daily occurance surely! Red Chief
There is no name but I hope she is not somebody from your friends or acquaintances. sage & onion
More like hourly wishmaster Lol Dear its New Youk, Where killing some1 is rape is very common New York Crime Rates 1960 - 2008 bellow Ballbraker I bet each of you ^^^ would love to live in New York but cant get a work visa. I would and make no apologies for it. New York also has 11 million people so per capita it is law crime. Bora Bora
Well if she is Russian, you can count on me not knowing her. And if she is, possible relative of yours? Bora Bora
And I'm sure you can name a place where it's not a daily occurrence. Let me guess, the UK? Oh, I'm sorry, they only do little boys there. Bora Bora
A slight correction: any kind of visa!!
I love my hometown and so do alot of tourists.

I don't get it. Never mind. And Yes, If it happened in Moscow I would be anxious.
Eid Mubarak! busa
You really are a nasty little piece of work aint ya :x Bora Bora
Nasty is as nasty gets. London probably has just as much crime as does New York. This is someone who takes a swipe at Americans or America every change she gets. For every action, there is a reaction. Bora Bora
I'm sure you did get it.
Eid Mubarak to you as well. busa
I must confess that i find it hard to believe that London and new york would have the same kinda crime figures purely based on gun ownership, but i aint been to London for years and have never set foot in america so i cant really comment, what gives me the hump is your assumption that paedo crime is rife in the UK or were you implying that only young boys get murderd there ? Bora Bora
What you may not know is Choc's history when it comes to her bashing America/Americans. If you were aware of it you would understand where my response was coming from, rather than calling me a "nasty piece of work". Maybe my response was harsh, but it was meant for her and her high and mighty attitude that the UK is pristine and a wonderland. FYI I was referring to boys being murdered, which I am sure you are well aware of and was also the point of the thread - about a murder. There was no assumption or implication in my response, just a swat back at her. If you took offense, I apologize. But before you start slinging insults you should get a bigger picture of the people involved.
Forget crime numbers - where isn't there crime?? As for paedo crimes, that has no borders. wishmaster
Sorry to disappoint you but I don’t wanna live anywhere else then Dubai Chocoholic BB, that's quite laughable considering half my family are American! Didn't know that now did you?! And in many States. And to the other douche - yeah I cn get a visa actually! But not my kinda place so have no intention of wanting to live there. Been to New York, not my kinda place. Not a big city fan unfortunately. Er and name a place where this doesn't happen on a daily basis - oh er let me think - anywhere in the UAE! Unfortunately in places where weapons are freely available, violent crime is pretty much common place and this is true of many major cities around the globe. Chocoholic Anyway we can about this story because....... oh it's a Jumeirah hotel, but in NY, so who cares. Doesz it affect us here, er nope.
Ballbraker
Yeah but every one picks on New York. Somehow I don't believe your bit about not wanting to live in New York - just a hunch. Getting the visa is easy since you seem to be from the UK. Getting a job (and keeping it) my be a another story. Chocoholic Actually no it's not easy to get a green card if you're British, in fact it's alot harder than many nationalities. Nope, I've spent alot of time in the US and it's never really appealed to me in the slightest. Big cities freak me out, I'm a small village country girl. The big smoke is defo not for me. And noooooo people don't always pick on NY at all. There are far worse places. Bora Bora
As fou your "American" side of the family, you made that point a few times.
New York State is vast. New York City is the "central" area. The beauty is that you can live in the country or suburbia and be in the city in no time. I'm sure that's the same as in the UK.
In the US, weapons are NOT freely available. For the legal purchase of a fire arm a background check is done on each person prior to the purchase as well as there being a waiting period is involved. Upon approval and the sale the individual and his/her details are entered into a government registry as a weapons owner. And like any other city, they are also sold from the boot of a car.
I don't live in the city for the mere fact that it is way too expensive. Even if I could afford to live in the city, I would still chose to live outside as it would allow me to "enjoy" all that the city has to offer when I want. Bora Bora [quote="Bora Bora"]

The NRA has made it very difficult for tighter restrictions to be put on the purchase of firearms. (Half of them are rednecks anyway!!) And like any other city, they are also sold from the boot of a car.
I don't live in the city for the mere fact that it is way too expensive. Even if I could afford to live in the city, I would still chose to live outside as it would allow me to "enjoy" all that the city has to offer when I want.[ macjul NYC crime is way down compared to the eighties. Homicides is less than 1000 p.a. now. Its better than many third world mega cities, but cant beat European Cities in terms of safety. Fire arms are strictly prohibited within the city limits, even permits for private persons to own a gun is very difficult to get. Anyone who wants to live there should forget about car ownership and the luxury of having big apartments. Instead you have to deal with the MTA, cabs and rather smallish apartments, but on the other hand you have world class institutions for education, culture and business within a few miles radius. viking-warrior Actually London is far worse than New York. ^Guiliani and his zero tolerance made New York as safe palce to live and work. G to tha T Guns don't kill people. People do. K-Dog
I'm with Bora on this one. You must stop your venom against the US. The truth is you were born and raised in Saudi Arabia, have spent all your life in the Middle East. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. You probably can't even survive in your country, England. Speedhump
Manhattan has become very safe. Not so sure about Queens, Bronx, projects are projects.
White Plains and most other outer suburbs are just like always, pretty peaceful. I visited Manhattan and White Plains end of last year. No worries at all.
NY State, like Greater London, is BIG, there isn't one brush to paint it all with. Get a grip people.
And yes, no need for a car in Manhattan, everyone walks or Subways, try taking taxis a few times and check the traffic. You'll get fit living on the Island :) dresden
NYC is a great place to be if you are from out of town. Next week I'm heading down to visit my cousin who has a pad in Manhattan, on the rim of central park. Should be cool.
If you are a resident of NYC, you will soon realize that the true place to be is actually 'upstate' NY. Although, it's a pretty tight knit community... sometime's money isn't enough :) Bora Bora
I'm not from upstate Dres, but from Brooklyn. You are going at a really nice time of year. Enjoy!! Speedhump
Hey where u been boy? Think you can just flounce in here in your frilly nightie, make a few posts and then ballerina off again????
We're here puttin' in the hours and the posts man, come back to us :D Speedhump
Both of the women in my NY office are from there too. I call them my Brooklyn Babes, which they love. Both in their fiftes, but sexy as hell with that accent and they don't bullcrap either, they shoot straight pool. Now, who does that sound like..babe??? :D sage & onion Lets stop all the arguments and check out the following; Sorry BB, but the stats are rather awful. viking-warrior There are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics! :) Ballbraker
You do. And you know it. Ballbraker
Hey Osama-Lover got anything more current? The stats are from 1999! LockerzManager Very scary to hear this! Bora Bora
Sorry, S&O, that was 1999. If you go on current stats, the population of England was 61,634,599 vs. US 307,434,000 as of Jan 2009, so yes, the number of crimes in the US would be higher. The US probably out-populated every country on the '99 survey. The exceptions would be those countries where there is little law and order and are a bit barbaric.
Why is there less crime in the UAE? The Jan 2009 survey shows a population of 4,599,000 for the entire UAE.
What would you think the crime rate would be on the Pitcaim Islands with a population of 50? (Packing my bags as we speak!) Ballbraker
The other thing to consider is that USA cities actually report crime - and happy free press to hold them accountable. The UAE and many others  Bora Bora
Flattery will get you everywhere. You are a bit off on the age hon, you know that I'm 75, but that's OK. Chocoholic erm I think you'll find that's the population of the UK not England! Speedhump
You Googled a REALLY bad choice there hun, I guess you never caught this news a few years back:
Rape a 'way of life' on Pitcairn
Young girls on the tiny UK colony of Pitcairn were treated as sexual playthings and rape was a way of life on the island, a court has been told.
...The abuse charges stem from 1999 when an islander told a visiting British policewoman she had been sexually abused.
+++
Some of the victims had bottled up the abuse for 40 years, disclosing it only when a British policewoman was visiting the island in 1999 or 2000. Red Chief
Sounds like the proverb.
8) sage & onion
You have to look at the "Per-capita" figures to get the proper idea. Speedhump
I don't know which one. Certainly not 'least said, soonest mended'. Bora Bora
erm, if you google England, United Kingdom pops up. Could they be one in the same? Red Chief Arabic one. Bora Bora
Still there's less crime there compared to other countries. Bora Bora
Not what could you be referring to?? Or should I say who?? Still can't resist bringing me into your mix can you? :P Bora Bora Double Post:P Red Chief
No-no, of course not. I thought that Speedy had brought. It looks as dubious as post about Brooklyn babes.
   Chocoholic
Er no the United Kingdom is made up of 4 countries BB, that would be England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, did you never do geography at school! You couldn't physically fit 61 million people in England! sage & onion
I can't get u-tube here, but I think this video says it all;
&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF8&rd=r2&p=dumb%20americans%20video Chocoholic Seen it before mate. Yeah she keeps harping on about others taking swipes at Yanks but she's not really helping the cause by making daft comments like that. Oh Iraq is Australia is it? Righto  In the meantie I'm off to hang out with 3 American mates who actually know what's what in the world! sage & onion
Have a good one. Bora Bora
Yes, Sage, we have seen that before. And for you to take an edited video and paint all Americans as being what is shown, I am surprised at you, of all people. Did you borrow Chocs brush to do that? sage & onion
Hahaha, your funny really, no I posted that because a lot of it is actually correct, as well as the fact that this is once again getting serious when it doesn't have to. Lets face facts, you know as well as I do that the crime stats in Us are some of the highest in the world. Bora Bora
I apologize for the error. The population of England is about 51 million, which really doesn't make such a big difference now, does it?
I don't harp on others about taking swipes, I direct it to you. And I do believe that you made another one above. And how did I take a swipe at England/UK? Looking to stir something up?
It would be pointless if people pointed out every time you where were wrong or made a mistake Chocs, because we all know how knowledgeable you and incapable of making mistakes and, you are and definitely too big to admit to an error or mistake. But that's how small people react to making errors or mistakes. It must be difficult for you being perfect and all knowing.
By the way, is it true that you were born in Saudi Arabia and grew up there?
But it still doesn't change the facts now does it since it was about crime. Bora Bora
You take a handful of idiots and make a judgement? I'm sure you can find the same kind of idiots everywhere in the world - even in England. I'm not denying that crime stats are high in certain states, but that is not representative of all states. Anyway, the area in question was New York City, New York - and I still love it!!! Red Chief Another rerun of boring show " Great British and Dumb American". Is there any connection with Dubai? Jumeirah, probably? I just wonder why someone hasn't shown its beatiful middle finger in direction of the Land of Arrogance yet. Bora Bora
I guess the only show you enjoy is Drunken Russia and Great British? Do you really think that show was stimulating or of any interest? Two men having a pissing contest?
Rarely do you discuss Dubai. FYI It was Jumeriah Essex Hotel. Bora Bora
Here's for you and Chocs.
&feature=channel Red Chief Sorry for intervention. :) Enjoy, dear. sage & onion
As I have already said, can't view u-tube in China, will have to wait until I returm. Speedhump Bora all of the above is actually incredibly boring also. The OP was a death in a hotel with an arrested suspect, not crime on the streets of any city anywhere. The damned woman was probably in an other of these ridiculous Middle Eastern love triangles. Nothing was stolen from the room and it is a good hotel. How off topic can you, Sage and the Fat Controller get? I always said when Red Chief attacked the UK all I did was defend each time against the ridiculous comments. Now you use that same excuse to have a catfight with Fat Controller (as you have before, 'I am just defending), who also used that as an excuse to rant and swear hugely at me a while back in another thread. Talk about two faced behaviour! Bora Bora
SH, go to the very top where the Fat Controller opened the door and took the topic into another direction when she opened her fat mouth. No where did I say I was "defending", nor did I do any bashing. Is it safe to assume that the behavior are you referring to as being two-faced is directed at the Fat Controller? If there is a right to "defend" ridiculous comments, I didn't know that was an exclusive to any one individual.
Pardon me for saying, but you have gone "off topic" on many a thread when the Commie baited you and you bit.
Where on earth did you get the idea it was "another ridiculous Middle Eastern love triangle"? What is that about? They arrested a hotel worker for the murder!!
I can hardly believe that you actually wrote that post. Ballbraker
China? What, time to buy another wife already? Speedhump
OK time for some straightening!
I am the king of going off topic, Notorious B.I.G, who would deny it :D? What I complain about is someone who does it themselves and complains at me, that wasnt directed at you.
But your comment concering how boring Chief's and my arguments were (WERE) are a little rich though, when you insist on doing the same with FController. A catfight is no more attractive to outsiders than a pissing contest, I hope you get my meaning. Also a lot of people on the forums are of British nationality, if you need to vent some spite at the FController I suggest you could find another way to do it than just pour out invention about little boys being murdered (or something) in the UK, because I see that at least one poster here was upset by it apart from your intended target. Just a little more though applied before the steam would be great ;)
No bad feeing here hun, hope you are the same.
The article I read had no details about the person arrested, so I am quite within my rights to say what I want, and qualify it with ' probably', I hope. Bora Bora
SH, read my posts in the context that they are meant. You, better than anyone, knows how I express myself!! The person who was "upset" thought I was referring to something other than murder. He was questioning my wording and asked if I was referring to murder or pedophilia. Again, if you followed the posts you would see how things evolved. My comment was not a figment of my imagination.
Your suggestion that I find another way to "vent" because of the large number of Brits on the forum is not on. That's like telling me I have to tiptoe around and be careful that I might offend the sensibilities of a certain nationality. One member should not suggest that another member censor their own posts for the sake of the majority of members. Where does that leave the minority? The majority can have open field day with the minority and the minority should wait for the opportunity to react and not initiate? If you are suggesting that care be taken when it comes to comments about Brits or Britain, then that advice should be served up to everyone about every nationality.
Again, I was not bashing Brits or Britain, but I think you, like the FC, takes every inference as an poke. I take offense to the FC for the mere fact that she DOES bash Americans or America every chance she gets. Its a well known fact that she doesn't have much use for most of the world, other than the little one that she lives in, but I, like you, tend to take the bait. My comment about the back-and-forth between you and Chief - I was referring to how constant and ongoing it was and had crossed multiple threads; they were not confined to one or two, but many. I admit that there was ONE thread where the FC and I went on for about 6 pages, but at least it had some entertainment value!
As for the article, the fact that nothing was said as to "motive" your assumption was sooooooooooooo far off base. Yes, you are quite within your rights to say what you want, as can I and everyone else here for that matter.
FYI: when I do a peepee, I do it to leave a mark.
Of course there are no hard feelings. Unlike some, you and I know that we are not going to agree on everything and can have a difference, discuss it, bury it (and not each other) and move on.
So, I'm moving on now.
You know I still wuv you hon. Speedhump Ok let's leave it! And for the record I feel strongly that pokes about all nationalities are sensitive areas and should be used carefully, as that's how most of the flame wars here start (I know I was no saint and nor was the Chief, and he's still banging on about arrogance even in this thread, amazing...) ;) Ballbraker
What's wrong with flame outs anyway :D Red Chief I just wonder who is baiting whom. :) Be fair it wasn't Bora who started that racist stuff in tenth once. Then you are right, she converted it to the regular catfight, the only thing she probably wants from DF. On the other hand I was here before Bora and you and at that time bashing Americans for instance were the favorite game in this British sandpit. So everybody was happy. The situation with sandpit has been changed but someone cannot hold its crap inside and contunue speaking about dumb Americans or useless Pakistan. Speedhump I see. Thanks for the info on DF pre-history. I am all for keeping it fair and stopping the stupid ' I hate xxxxx country' comments. ;) Speedhump
I don't mind a good fight, but when it's irredeemably racist and/or xenophobic I find it ignorant and tasteless. Misery Called Life Bull$cr@p, Bull$cr@p, Bull$cr@p
Here's my take on it:-
Thou art not great because of ur nationality, thou are inspite of it! :D
Unless ur the Queen of England, Kennedy of USA, Casiraghi of Monaco or Zardari of Pakiland etc etc.
For the rest of us trust you me our countries and policymakers are as different from us as potatoes are to apples! Misery Called Life
Eloquent indeed mate Ballbraker
Fair enough. I was gettign worried this place was full of over sensitive winnies. Tom Jones It appears the murdered victim is a businesswoman from Dubai. Her name is Andree Bejjani (probably Iranian or of Iranian origin, from the name). She was found naked from the waist down. Raped then killed? Victim of a love triangle? Who knows? Here is the NY Times article link to this development: &scp=3&sq=jumeirah&st=cse :!: :?: :?: sage & onion
Shut up fool, you don't know me. Chocoholic Actually BB if you go back to the first page, it was YOU and Ballbreaker who took it off topic! Now off you tottle and pick a fight with someone else. Speedhump
There are quite a few, they sometimes get burned to a crisp. Speedhump
As Bora pointed out to me, she was stabbed by a hotel worker who used his key card to enter her room. Nothing was stolen according to another report I read. Seems he was a very quiet guy with a wife and kids. I guess the guy was a pressure cooker just waiting to go off. A sad thing, rather than an example of a crime ridden city. macjul judging by the NYPost article, she (the victim) was not only attractive but also a well connected and respected business woman, who was strangled by an obviously mentally unstable monster. Questions is : how come that after 10 years working there nobody in this posh hotel noticed this and permitted him access to all apartments? Obviously there has to be a better system in place in checking out those potential killers and mental freaks, when they occupy jobs where trust is required. forexme [b] Dubai is really doing well in their economy growth as many people can see and prove. Like having many expensive hotels and largest mall in the world and don't forget the beautiful scenery of their beaches, as well.
And I bet, for the people of Dubai they deserve to know my two (2) new sites I made just for all of the people, most especially with the FOREX enthusiasts and the "wanna be" and who's interested. Bora Bora
Ooops. Bora Bora
Post No. 3 by you: Hey what's new in New York. Daily occurance surely!
I would say that's where it all started (with poor spelling, as usual). And just as a side note - it was New York CITY .
Pick a fight? Chocs, you live for that. It's you way of venting all your negative enery, which we all understand. Chocoholic And your point is? Moot as usual! It was a statement and a fact! Point the finger at yourself for a change. And so what I have issues typing - picking on someone's weak points is sooo big of you! Bora Bora
A statement that I responded to. But we all know where you are coming from FC. You don't make "statements" just to make them, they usually have an underlying purpose, which is your general hatred for everything that exists outside your little world.
That's not the only issue you have. As for the finger, take it out of your nose.
This could all lead to another catfight, and I won't go there. So, to that I say: SHADDUP. Chocoholic Why is this topic even being discussed? And yet the grandmother and her 3 grandchildren who died in a fire in Sharjah get zip, nothing, nadda! Who cares about this? Ballbraker
er, no. I simply posted a news story and all of the sudden it turned into a "new york is the worse for crime, etc. etc." and some of us posters noted that neither the stats nor the facts back it up. Just look back. Ballbraker
Hit a nerve, did I?
Well you must be the fool as you don't know me to call me a fool?
I almost got you pegged alredy !! Just let me read a few more post from you and I'll tell you who you are. First starters and based on this post you are British married to a non British person (by birth). How's that so far? Ballbraker
Call a real reporter. This is a forum. Ballbraker
cool  Speedhump
WTF??? You got fingers, why didn't YOU start a thread about it, if you care so much.
Whining about what other people do or don't do, instead of thinking about your own actions or lack of them, seems your raison d'être......
 Speedhump
Hey don't mock the Sage or you bring the wrath from the denizens of DF.. :D
I doubt he will respond anyway, I'm surprised he bit at your first out of the blue crack. Ballbraker DP  Ballbraker
oh no ! more clues. let me guess? Old guy (the word "mock" gave it up). We used to mock grandpa  Speedhump
Ah, I now I get it, just trolling....well you won't last long I guess. They come and they go. Did you have to look up the word mock? Education's not what it used to be in my day, but that's mostly down to the quality of the intake, I blame the parents. :D Speedhump
Hey just a question, did you make any even slightly interesting or positive posts yet, or has it all been like this? Only really asking if you intend to keep embarrassing yourself like this. Sorry, bit of a big word, embarrassing, break it up into syllables, you'll get there in the end. ;) Ballbraker
all the advice I can give you is; fasten your seatbelts ! Ballbraker
Oh, then I'll fit right in as I've yet to read and interesting post other than I-know-you-and-you-know-me kind of sophomoric babel by those with a large number of posts. But I'm hopeful. By the way, post count counts for squat! RedKite Look at the headline of this thread ..."Body found in Jumeirah hotel" !!
VERY BAD PUBLICITY for Jumeirah !!
Yet, where is the hotel ? in NEW YORK, USA !! That headline is typical of a "News of the World " or "Sun" headline in the UK.........MISLEADING TO GRAB ATTENTION!!
Until I opened this thread....FROM THE UK....I thought the death was in a Jumeirah hotel in Dubai.......AS THE AUTHOR INTENDED ME TO THINK!!
That sort of thing is VERY BAD publicity for your nicest , most upmarket holiday area in Dubai....which is JUMEIRAH!!
In these tough economic times , you people SEEKING WORK AND MONEY in Dubai, should be actively PROMOTING your best areas, like Jumeirah, so that people from all over the world visit Jumeirah , spend money in beautiful hotels and purchase property there!!
You need GOOD POSITIVE MARKETING.....not STUPID ....deliberately misleading ones like the one on this thread.....which does JUMEIRAH AND DUBAI NO GOOD AT ALL!!
There is one extremely good ,positive aspect of Dubai....and that is a lack of violent crime . This makes it a good place to go on holiday. Decent people want to FEEL SAFE on holiday. ONE BAD HEADLINE in a national newspaper costs a holiday location millions of pounds in lost holidays...often cancelled on hearing of violent crime.
The murder of the Welsh couple honeymooning in Antigua, in the Caribbean , has cost Antigua HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of pounds in lost holiday revenue ,because it made headlines all over the UK and western Europe.
BAD NEWS TRAVELS MUCH FASTER THAN GOOD NEWS !!!!
Anyway , to counter-balance this bad news thread containing the word "Jumeirah" , I have started "Jumeirah and Visit Jumeirah" to push the many positive aspects of the name.
Jumeirah is one of the iconic names of Dubai. It is an UPMARKET holiday area with several very fine 5 star hotels and luxury villas. For the good of the WHOLE Dubai economy, it is the positive marketing aspects regarding Jumeirah that should be promoted globally , not misleading headlines like the one on this thread.
Your violent crime rate in Dubai is very low [unlike white collar business crime and fraud, which are higher].
When people choose a holiday they want to FEEL SAFE when they are out walking or sleeping in their beds......so PROMOTE THAT ASPECT!!
Out of curiosity, why the headline? Does Jumeirah Holdings own the New York hotel...or is it just called Jumeirah Hotel ? RedKite Checked it out now. It was the Jumeirah Essex House , in Central Park area of New York. The unfortunate victim was a 44 year old Lebanese businesswoman from Dubai, involved with marketing Dubai property. She was about to be raped at knife point by the head house-keeper, a 29 year old African American male. She put up a struggle and had her throat slashed. Poor woman !! As I said....... a MISLEADING HEADLINE ....to this thread . Market JUMEIRAH, Dubai , don't sully its good name!! This sort of crime does not occur in Jumeirah , Dubai. If it did, it would cost Dubai HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of pounds in lost business. Make NO mistake !! Decent tourists want CRIME-FREE locations. For example, I have been to several Caribbean islands , but I steer clear of Jamaica because of its bad reputation. sage & onion
And I have been to Jamaica several times and never had a problem. Bora Bora
To be honest FC, you really didn't give much mention about the woman that was murdered, you were more interested on commenting about New York. Actually, you didn't even acknowledge her death.
