OK, you know I am not a local, but as an expat while he was alive I lived in Dubai and I know the respect and love held by nationals and expats (including myself) for this man. The day he passed was the darkest day in the UAE and probably remain so. No one will ever take his place, they can only continue his work.

I just mean that it should not be used on a forum. I guess my sensitive side (yes I have one!!!) is dictating my reaction to the use of Sheikh Zayed's likeness.

Hello everyone. I couldn't vote either way because I'm not up to speed on the local customs or values. I hope my avatar doesn't mean something I'm not aware of. The OP avatar looked cool I thought but I don't know the whole "story" behind it, or what it represents. I'm a newbie with lots to learn. I hope you put up with me. I needed a break from the "stiff upper lip" Brits forum where I've been the last while. lol

As a businessman and a friend [I hope] , I honestly think you should change that picture of the Sheikh.
Many Arab people in the UAE probably won't tell you, but they will be deeply offended by it. So there is nothing to be achieved by using it. If you are seeking work in the UAE , that avatar ALONE would prevent you doing so.....in my opinion!!
But the UAE leaders and/or government will NOT TELL YOU !!
They will merely "black-ball" you!! You won't know why!!!
I reckon, as a mark of respect for the country featured in this forum , that you should change that avatar.
Why not get a smart yacht on there , instead, to plug your Nautic site?
I have just seen a cracking NEW picture of another dream launch on that Nautic site. It's a REAL BEAUTY!! VERY smart !!

I take any advice serious and have decided that my poll doesn't suit the outcome either way.
I decided to change my avatar and in an appropriate and protest manner, also coincidedly applicable to the current Swine flu pandemic.
