Armed Robbers raid Wafi Jewelry Store

bushra21
I don't know what to say.
satan-the-redeema Lt Gen PC PLOD said the robbers emptied the front display of the store. He also said the criminals were unlikely to be of "Arab origin".(could this be because they did not wearing dishdash`s and they showed how very proficient they were driving in the confined area of the mall with out crashing in to any thing on the way out, unlike locals of "Arab origin"who have big problems driving in lane traffic  ) kay1730
It was like a robbery out of an old bollywood movie, unimaginable KageofSoul
I guess now they really have to watch out for copycats now that people see those things can be pulled off... -_- Purple Complex True, if this thing isn't dealt with properly, we could see worse to come. bushra21
that's what worries me Smart
It is only the beginning.... Purple Complex
I fear that, but it does seem to be an inevitability. It would be tough, but the best case scenario would be for the police to knuckle down on this specific case and not just catch these criminals, but make a good example of it without making their names infamous, just severely dealt with, because some people enjoy infamy... gtmash
Yep. Please invite more Western tourists. Including professional American bank robbers. Imagine that they stole Audi A8s as well as escaped in 9 pm traffic. AFG I was present in the midst of all this. It was absolutely horrible and both the newspapers articles have underplayed what happened. The thoughts of suicide bombers, terrorists – who were going to shoot needlessly were abound. Also, there was no real security. The mall was NOT evacuated. Each store did their own thing. Store keepers seem not to have any emergency training and were all shouting, screaming and panicky. We were being asked to leave the store – while I was sitting on the floor, with the kids lying flat just in case somebody came shooting. I am sure I saw people injured being attended to by paramedics – just as well they planned to do it near closing time and on a weekday – Serious injuries/deaths could have have happened when the simply rammed through the glass gates and drove around!

rudeboy they will catch them and in the klan there be 2 pakis 1 emarati and 1 bengali and 1 russian aswell and maybe one kazakastanian :D lol how the hell did they get the cars inside lol its a bloody inside job alrite the cleaner was init and so were the secuirty guards. mind u it does look fake lol we are in dubai so dont trust wot u see cos everything here is fake :D Not_Sure lovely.....Holllywood infront of ur door step sings "its ooooooooooooonly gona get beeeeeeeeeeettteeeeeeeeeeeeer" rudeboy it looks fake cos there are no security guards in that video link. i thought all malls in the uae had a police office. like they have in sahara city centre. 3rdly when they drive off they drive so slowly cos they dont wanna leave tyre marks on the polish floor :D cos if they did dubai muncipality would have fined them. If it was a real theif he would have done a burnout or maybe a 360 and then get out. :D Purple Complex
No... you've been watching FAR too many movies.
Burnouts and 360s are done to make the movie more entertaining. As you can see there was NOTHING entertaining about this event, so don't look to be entertained by it.
Nobody was "In" it, nobody saw it coming and most of all nobody benefited from it. Not even the criminals that are most probably now in hiding will benefit from this, everyone will get their comeuppance. Smart
I would invite Italian and Russian maphia.
For 9 pm traffic invite Jason Statham ;) rudeboy these guys will be caught if they try to sell that jewlery in UAE. KageofSoul
I know there's no harm intended. But this seriously isn't a time for jokes on the event. It really isn't funny. Purple Complex
Most probably, but considering the proceedings of the event and the fact they seemed to have the entire event planned. i.e. Stealling cars, and burning them. I'm pretty sure they thought of that well before the event took place. Which is the most disturbing factor of this event is that they seemed to know exactly what they were doing. dubailover It looks like Dubai is the latest place for 'Ram Raids'...... :?
St.Lucifer
I dont get it. Robbers would definitely know what they r doin. All those movies that i've watched. and this video confirms it. I dont think they would come without proper planning, training and a panache for precise execution. Not_Sure THE MOVIE recored by someone in the mall.!!!!
St.Lucifer  it's there in the first post. Chocoholic Obvious question, but did the person who recorded the video pass it onto the police? lion0009  Not_Sure
i always skip  Smart [quote=]

All right, but what shall we do now? Cry? Or grieve? There are more than 40 people died in Iraq today. No one bothers. Here the jewelry was stolen and look!!! the news is on the front page of newspapers.
Do not take everything close to your heart.
Now lets see what Emirates police can do. Personally I do hope they will catch these bad guys. :!: :!: :!: Chocoholic Smart, see what you're saying, however the isues in Iraq are happening on a daily basis now, it's nothing new and there seems to be no end in sight, people become immune to it when they heard about it every single day, it becomes normal life and common place. However this is the first time anything like this has happened in the UAE. This country was always seen as a place that was very safe, with little crime, but things seem to be going from bad to worse, but that's what happens when you open up your doors to people from around the world. Unless you want to run background checks on everyone coming into your country or psych tests on your locals, then you have to expect some undesirables to get through. AFG
Not funny - but yes we are all joking about today evening being boring. kay1730 I think the guys who done the robbery deffo got their ideas from a movie :) i dont understand what the big deal is, armed robberies happen all the time all over the world. It was going to happen in Dubai sooner or later and its happend sooner. Its true that this is not funny but then it aint something world changing iswell. Stuff like this is part of life. I would say as long as the people behind this get punished then its all good. Does anyone have any ideas what movie it was :) KeithL [quote="Smart"][quote="gtmash"]
you should change you're nick dude...
I would hardly classify you as Smart if you cant spell Mafia St.Lucifer
Glad to see ya back in action. :D Smart [quote="KeithL"][quote="Smart"]
Keithl, English is not my native language, not even the second foreign language which I learnt. So, I can afford myself mistakes from time to time, especially at the end of the working day 8) But thanks for the hint thought, now I definitely will not make this mistake again ;)
P.S. BTW, I am not dude :thumbleft: Smart [quote="kay1730"]I think the guys who done the robbery deffo got their ideas from a movie :) i dont understand what the big deal is, armed robberies happen all the time all over the world. Agree.
Why does not anyone raise an issue of human traffic in Dubai? Do you know that there are several thousand girls who are forced to work as prostitutes in the city? Do you know how many are killed refusing to work in this field? Is not people life worth less attention then one robbed store? KageofSoul [quote="Smart"]
Oh please, spare me. This has been going on since forever. This country was well known for it back in the days. The image has changed now, but what happens behind closed curtains hasn't.
You won't get anywhere trying to stop it, the people are too high up. And as you said... KeithL
Dudette ! Dubai Knight There was an instance last year of an armed robbery at a currency exchange house in Al Ghurair City. The robber was chased down by unarmed security guards and was finally cornered in Maktoum Street before turning the gun on himself and committing suicide. He had a history of mental illness, however this was a well planned and thought out raid by an organised gang. The UAE has a historically very low crime rate but this will now cause many outlets to tighten security and I am sure it will have a knock on effect on the regular mall users. We may find the entrances to all the malls now being barriered or even having metal detectors and armed security guards. This is not going to help the Dubai tourist industry. Spare a thought for the traumatised shop staff. Did anyone ever train them how to handle having a machine gun stuck in their face? I think not. :( :( :( Knight arniegang maybe they should have used quick fire barbque pork ribs, more deadly than any traditional weapon, and......... they are totally undectable in any scanner, unless they are a few days old and the security dogs get a wiff of them :) :) Purple Complex
Why would "robbers" know what they were doing. When people get desperate, they do desperate things and don't always weigh up the consequences or how they could get caught.

AFG, I read your post and was struck to hear how traumatic the event truly was. Events like this show us why we should be prepared for the unexpected. The matter at hand now is to take steps on avoiding such unfortunate happenings in the future. Dubai Knight
Nothing worse than a cold nose in the unmentionables!
Concord would know...

Knight jabbajabba Anyone got a username and password for that link? EDIT: Its on the tube now; &mode=related&search= Really I am not surprised this has happened - jewelry stores in Dubai have displays with no bars and leave the stock out on show all night. If you do this no matter where it is in the world and the goods are worth over 1 million then someone will try there luck. Most other city's remove window displays to a pretty hardened safe for overnight storage, as they have also learned the hard way. Reminds me of the old saying 'trust in allah, but tie up your camel'. Knight mighty.one I can't believe this. How was this put on video? It looks like its been done on a camera phone :? Concord long f*****g day and I see this. Actually tomorrow already. Here are my 2 fils. They will have to catch the bastards and make an "example" of them. Think about it: there is a lot more to be lost if the perception becomes that Dubai is not safe and/or an easy target. I just hope they catch the right bastards and hang them. Sometimes the wrong ways are sacrifized. I imagine for many one reason to be in Dubai is because it is safer compared to many other places (I happen to live in one of the safest larger cities in the world - when not in Dubai). If crime is now an element to be concerned about, there would be less reasons to be here (add to that the high cost of living, traffic, etc.). Big "mo" is a smart man and I figure it "crossed" his mind or that of his advisors. I'll pay to watch the execution (with Arnies' money). Arnie and DK good to hear from you. Long time no see. St.Lucifer Its recommended that they get exemplary punishment. But What dubai must do is to look into, The ever widening economic divide, the frustration of lower income group increases over the time if no measures are taken up. Include them into the main stream society, set new rules to ensure living conditions and pay rates. Create more opportunities for them to come up. The life style changes and the upbringing of youngsters. They've to look at the young bullies, and the young street rowdy gangs. Like a UAE minister said, there should be more ways for the youth to spend time on constructive, and scocial activities. Like sports centres, stadiums etc. Coz these young rich kids have a lot of time to spend at their hand, a lot of money, all kinda gadgets and no one to monitor them. Regardless of what they do or how much of a direct impact they would create to the actual crime scene, the issue is important coz a lot would wanna followsuit them with rich spoilt, carefree life style. Chocoholic This was a very well thought out and planned robbery. I'm just surprised it hasn't happened here sooner. Reports today suggest that police have arrested 5 people in connection with the incident. Dubai Knight
Are you making the assumption that these are local criminals? I have a feeling that these were more likely professionals from out of town. Yes there is an increasing lifestyle and financial divide in the UAE, but the marketing that is done outside the country about Dubai being 'The City of Gold' is guaranteed to raise it on the radar of organised crime.
If they catch the perpetrators (and not just some scapegoats to make the local police look better) they may find they are from one of the 'Stans'.
We shall see...

Knight Chocoholic I'd have to agree with you DK, too well done and far too professional. St.Lucifer Agreed that this may be a crime that's out sourced. Out of towners, But it should be a wake up call. And if anything on the past records are to be considered, dubai has a very big network of organized underworld perpetrators. What comes on front page like this one could just be a tip of ice berg.I do realize that this is a different kind of crime. And lets hope that cops get them asap. Smart According to the information, it took guys only 105 (!!!!!!) seconds to rob the store. The cost of the stolen jewellery is more than 15 (!!!!!) mln $. jabbajabba
I am going for eastern European or Russian - that was a well planned and executed heist by experienced criminals. jabbajabba

Will they lose a hand if caught? asc_26 Sort of Italian Job - the movie though!
Stolen diamonds will travel by ship or by a private jet. For sure, those diamonds are no longer in UAE! They should catch those mafias, otherwise Concord’s K9 will be in all malls & high-end establishments entrances & exits sniffing our bags & belongings. I don’t want to see these things happening in Dubai business establishments.

It could be eastern europeans supported by the stans & arabs. Let's see... gtmash
Hehe, tomorrow's headline will be " Labourers arrested in heist case" Purple Complex
Now that wouldn't be funny. harrysat the city is getting biger it needs more security. police man should have moterbikes to kill the traffic--------------------------------- smartd They set fire to both cars but one of them didn't burn completely. Fingerprints + DNA was recovered from water bottles. They caught 1 of them already. Or maybe not. Cheers, D Purple Complex
I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they did do all that, although it could be just a story to avoid copycats (which is a good thing), but regardless to say they did catch one. Where is he from? In-towner? out-of-towner? The talk of Eastern Europeans and Russians has piqued my interest. satan-the-redeema Knight
