1ttislau I am currently a graduate student in Chicago, Illinois USA. The architectural boom taking place in dubai has caught my attention. I have 2 years working experience with site planning, design, and construction documentation. I am interested in finding out more about what Dubai would possibly have to offer me as a start to my professional career, as well as how the salaries compare to what I could be making if I stayed in the usa. Any information to help me get started would be greatly appreciated. Thanks dbxsoul For starters do some research into what construction companies are in the UAE. Look at , type in "construction" - there are several hundred! Obviously some are large and some small. Run through the web links where they appear, this may be tedious, but will give good enough insight into the composition of the construction market, also look at architects and consultants. Some of the larger construction projects are undertaken by developers such as Al Nakheel and Emaar Properties, and much of the work is done “in-house”. Also look into construction methods, as they differ quite drastically in the Middle East as compared to the UK and USA. Much of the concrete work is “shutter and pour”, and the then finished. Look into issues such as the life expectancy of the buildings, curing times and work regulations to familiarise yourself. If you do the research it’s easier to build up a mental picture of the industry and will possibly also produce some good leads with regards to potential employers!
