Just download the MSN messenger from
, then subscribe to Etisalat PAY AS YOU GO 3.5G service, no monthly charge. Then start using msn messenger!. although it may charge you 1 dh everytime you log in.

The etisalat rates are waaaaay over the top though.
You could use wifi if your phone has it (mine does), and then use a nice piece of software called Fring.... but then, there's SFA free WiFi in Dubai as well.
