All New Years celebrations in DXB to be cancelled WTF!

Chocoholic This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard!
Dubai Knight I just heard this too! The hotels are relying on this to save them from dismal sales over the last few months, the firework companies have already done the majority of the set ups and will lose a fortune, the catering companies are fully geared up with staff and produce...it would be a financial disaster! They cannot stop private celebrations anyway... Would they cancel Dubai Shopping Festival in sympathy? I think not!   Knight Chocoholic Bloody idiots! Seriously! If that's the case we're all going to another Emirate! Screw Dubai! quatroporte
where UAQ or Ajman????
sadly my friend who is an events manager at one of the hotels is still at work at this very moment because he is canceling the parties and events... you should hear his voice on the phone and hear how much money they lost this one only night!!!!!
I understand the sympathy and it is a noble move... but this decision will cost Dubai so much!!!!!
I still share my sympathy for the Palestinians and our prayers for them... and my beach BBQ is still on plan :) uaekid Go to hell Chocoholic, can't we at least show sympathy to our brothers and kids getting killed, I know it wont make a diff what so ever. But you being careless about it makes you a heatless women with no feeling. It's not all about you getting drunk and finding a one night stand dear. ArchitectRoel
Celebrating New year doesn't mean you don't care or you give sympathy to Palestine. uaekid shut the f up... you guys makes me sick. how could you Celebrate anything in a time like this. but hey you have nothing to do with it, right ? get lost. K-Dog
Chill out dude. You have the right to celebrate it ANY way you like. I respect your right and at the same time heard the Ruler of the country. We live in this country so must follow the law of the land. We all (with plans tonight) have to suffer finacial loses but have no choice as I said were law abiding citizens. My heart goes out to all innocent people who are dying anywhere in the world including Palestine.
What do you have to say about the outrageous parties planned for Abu Dhabi tonight? Do those people not share the sentiments of you and your ruler? james c
chill out you f*cking beansprout. go and say a prayer for them then if you're so concerned. why should it stop the rest of us wanting to celebrate the new year? Chocoholic
So one night of solidarity is going to make a difference is it? Where have you lot been for your 'brothers' before now? Sitting back on your backsides doing nothing is what! Oh and you can blame Hammas for this current mess, they knew exactly what Israel's reaction would be, when they fired 80 rockets at them last week.
And yes, what about all the other Emirates? Their parties are still going on!

1 Dubai Jobs .com The First Place to Find a Job in Dubai
Chocoholic Oh and UAEKid! Clearly you haven't stopped to think about the long term consequences of this decision. Dubai relies on tourism and investment for the majority of its income. What kind of impression do you think this gives to that market? All the people that have travelled here, paying thousands of dirhams to spend NY here, will go away with a disappointed and bad opinion of the place. They'll ask for refunds. It's very difficult to get over a tarnished reputation and build it up again, and god knows Dubai has been dragged through the mud in the global press in recent months! All the venues, that have forked out to bring in extra food, drink, staff, entertainment - all this still has to be paid for and not only that, they will have to refund all the money they have charged people for the night, so they will make a huge loss. Some venues might not recover from this! Did you stop for one second to think about this? No! Clearly not. So you go and pray or whatever it is you want to do to show solidarity, or better still why don't you 'man up' get on a plane and go and fight with your 'brothers'. But of course you wouldn't because at the end of the day, people like you are all mouth with no guts! The other Emirates aren't willing to take the financial loss, so guess what? People will travel to them and put their hard earned cash into their celebrations instead. Dubai loses on every level with this decision. Del I suppose *he* has to be seen to be doing something authoritarian, now that he's been relieved of many of his duties... Chocoholic Well yes, I think there are other underlying reasons behind the decision. Sad to say, but the big man has lost alot of favour with other rulers recently, so maybe it;s a face saving exercise more than anything. Del
 Chocoholic In another twist, it could very well be a coverup for something else. If you've had your ear to the ground, you'll had heard the numerous rumours over the last 10 days or so, and there isn't smoke without fire! If these rumours are true, you can pretty much guarantee an announcement tomorrow, as it would be a convenient time. yorky500 I don't have my ear to the ground - what is it that we may or may not know tmr? Del
Solemn music on the radio tomorrow? yorky500 Could it be that Dubai has collapsed due to the financial crisis and is being taken over by AUH? Chocoholic I can't say anymore! However, after talking to several of my entertainment buddies apparently indoors celebrations are going ahead. It's outdoors that will not be allowed to happen. Official confirmation will come around midday.
yorky500
PM is your friend. Mums the word, honest 8) reviewer Hmmmm, cant wait to hear what rumor is all about....... 8) Chocoholic Clubs and bars are apparently still open for business. xymo good thing shakira is in abu dhabi :D Chocoholic Nope, the Shakira concert was cancelled last night! john smith Rumour started 2 weeks ago that the Sheikh is dead. Shot by a relative. Don't believe it personally. xymo ohh... my bad... im not updated... lol xymo
i heard about this news yesterday and they are planning to announce it after DSF...
if its true Chocoholic There are several rumours, that is one of them and as far as I can gather not true. maximusprime
They aren't my brothers and I shouldn't be forced to pay respect to them. Those Hamas idiots are like a chihuahua who keeps biting the ankles of a pit bull and then act like they are getting picked on when the pit bull tears them to shreds. They had it comming.
I dont support one or the other, I think they all need to chill the F out. Chocoholic Or maybe you know solve the issue, by just nuking the whole damn place, then there would be nothing to fight over, no issues and use it as a radioactive dump site! bonk
You're talking about the ruler's brother Sheikh Hamdan?

Sheikh M was at a wedding this week - looking alive. Chocoholic Um he does have a doppleganger. Anyway who knows, we'll just have to wait and see. Chocoholic Well we just got confirmation that our night is still on! Band and all! Whoohoo quatroporte I got a confirmation that all desert parties are still on, clubs and small sized concerts are on schedule... affected parties are with high outdoor music and no fireworks... its clear that this is only a media support for the Palestinians while Dubai is still on schedule for parties... uaekid Chocoholic
We are not pointing fingers here, and I don't give a sh*t who celebrate or not, my point is our right as a muslim country to show sympathy to our brothers, cant we have that in our own country ? you guys celebrate as much as you want. But I'm disagreeing with chocoholic that’s all. him as a ruler and his decision in pointed toward you as a person but toward his city and calling names .. idiots and stupid is not the way to express your feeling chocoholic, I recall you saying that in other posts !!
K-Dog
Celebrating in a Muslim country is wrong no matter who does it AB or any other city.
james c
this is sad. You have to care for others, just feeling wise at least.
Chocoholic

You see , you are in Israel side which is ok but we are not and that’s why the stopped those parties, you have the right to do it your self . you see where I'm going with this ?

..those hamas idiots are people defending their own country an occupied country but to you they are terrorist.
And you are always welcome to get the f out this Muslim country and celebrate at your own where they don't care. K-Dog Let me understand this, are you saying AD is not part of your country? Or they are less Islamic? I'm all confused now. uaekid I don't care whom or where k-dog, I'm asking for our rights as muslims to express our feeling in anyway we see fits. and you guys are disagreeing . smoggie "And you are always welcome to get the f out this Muslim country and celebrate at your own where they don't care" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Chocoholic You really haven't read a word I've written have you! The UAE has opened the gates to tourism and therefore you cannot have your cake and eat it! You can choose to do whatever you want, but don't think you can tell others what to do! And stop the bleating on about you you you, because I can't tell you what to do in MY country! I don't side with anyone, I think the whole situation is ridiculous and pointless. But as I said before, what have you ever done to help resolve it? Nothing! There are casualties on BOTH sides! Hammas started this latest bombardment, I mean for goodness sake, seriously did they not think about the consequences? They knew full well! You seem to constantly forget that expats far outnumber you! So who do you think the Governments are going to try to keep happy? Those that spend, and put money in your pocket I might add! If you choose to be somber and reflect etc then go ahead. Each to his own! But there's a thing called progress and the need for financial sustanability, which you cannot stop no matter how much you moan and complain about it! uaekid it is your choise chocoholic to prefer moeny on a humans lifes. not everything is about moeny. what I'm call foris supporting. forget about the moeny and your financial sustanability when it comes to human lifes, those ppl and their kids are with no food or water and you are worrying about your party. uaekid anyway, have a blast in your parties where ever they are and enjoy it, wishing you all a happy new year. bye... tridxb UAE kid, you actually personally insulted chocaholic by saying that she wanted a new years party to get a one night stand when you don't even know the person! , but you can take no criticism for actions made by your country and you contradict yourself on a regular basis. Read your posts over before you submit them, everyone is entitled to an opinion and I think what most people were so hacked off about is the money that EVERYONE was losing from NYE being cancelled. The gesture of solidarity is a nice one but it's a gesture - and penalising people who are alive, grateful for it and celebrating the fact maybe isn't the best way - but once again, it looks like this is a statement only, and not being fully backed up. Dubai Knight I just had a call from a Palestinian mate of mine and he is devastated! He had a huge party organised in a hotel and he had a call to tell him it was cancelled. They won't refund his deposit as they claim it is 'Force Majeure'!! This is going to create a massive financial bonus...for the legal profession!   Knight xdude Begining of END!! Chocoholic UAEkid you like to assume alot of things! How do you know I don't make regular contributions to the Red Crescent and Unicef? So don't jump to conclusions! What do you do? Just because someone says 'hey why can't we celebrate' doesn't mean we don't show our support in one way or another. So what are you doing exactly? arniegang Not a lot more to add really, Chocs has said it all and does have a point. The only thing i will add on something that Chocs touched on. Is that this will have a long term reprocussions for the tourist industry. A lot of people will have paid a lot of money to have their christmas and new year holiday in dubai. These tourists are not going to be happy, whether they return or not remains to be seen and friends and families of these tourists when they get back home will view Dubai differently. Bad news always travels faster than good news. The only other concern to tourists is that Dubai has publicly brought itself into the Political Areana. This has been a large contributary factor that has made Dubai attractive to both tourists and business's, in what is generally considered an unstable region (as in the Middle East). Dubai does not really need more bad news at this moment. quatroporte Guys... the same people who confirmed parties are still on schedule have just confirmed back to me that all are CANCELLED! no indoor our outdoor parties happening!!! please everyone re-confirm from your end... from my end, all the parties i am aware off confirmed cancellation this very minute bonk
How odd. Doesn't he appreciate the gesture of solidarity? Perhaps uaekid could offer to refund the deposit as s/he appears to be extremely supportive of the party cancellations? Chocoholic If you want to know what's on and what's not! Check here! It's constantly updated: arniegang
Nice one Chocs, really useful info for people i will post this link up on its own thread. Medvezhonok
Looks like most of the parties are still going on as planned, which is good news.
Deciding to cancel all NYE events was the epitome of stupidity, a nail in the coffin of ineptitude and arrogance that Dubai is slowly becoming. quatroporte
Thanks Chocos, you are very helpful muslimbangladeshi
Learn some manners you imbecile.
As a foreigner you get the eff out of Dubai if you don't like its legislation. Why the eff should any of us residents/nonresidents care? Captain Australia
Not yet mate, haven't finished taking all their money. We'll be done soon. smoggie "As a foreigner you get the eff out of Dubai if you don't like its legislation. Why the eff should any of us residents/nonresidents care? " Haha. Ever thought about entering Politics my friend? Typical of the freedom of expression and speech in this part of the world reviewer
Nice manners you have there...impotent fool...... 8) tomjerry0506 who cares? for celebration we need a full bottle and some glasses, even no water! hehe celebrate. Happy new Year to all. muslimbangladeshi
You dont have any manners, you used the words "Impotent fool"
AND
You are the foreigner in the Emiratis' land, so get the eff out of UAE or abide by its rules.
I know how I'd be treated if I go to a Western country and raised a valid point about mistakes in their systems, and this decision by the Emir of Dubai is a very valid one. muslimbangladeshi
What is the implication of this? Freedom of speech is not an end in itself. It means nothing all by itself. muslimbangladeshi edited off topic Mod smoggie hahahaha. Seriously. Enter politics!!!! I would vote for you! Maybe you could launch your new party in Bradford or Leeds??? IDIOT! arniegang ok enough cut the personals and bad language or i will move this thread. Mod bridge Chocoholic the only reason these celebrations were canceled is because we are now in a time of mourning for the Palestinian people. You have to remember that as much as Dubai is liberal and touristic, the UAE still remains a Muslim country, no matter what else is going on! I have seen your other posts and sense a little hate! People like you are certainly not welcome here. I have lived in Canada all my life and have always respected their celebrations, traditions, and inhabitants. We expect the same from you, and all others coming here trying to make a living. You need to get your mind checked and get all your facts straight before posting any other comments made directly at our people and religion! Shame on you. Flying Dutchman
As a Muslim, will you also allocate some time for the victims of the genocidal Janjaweed? Killing and raping by the thousands... arniegang
Dubai did not have any "mourning for the Kuwaities when saddam marched in". The rest of the Arab world didn't have any mourning when Iran and Iraq were kicking the crap out of each other. None of the Arab world had any mourning for all the Muslims that sadly died in 9/11 that was carried out by other Muslims.
So what's different about the Palastinians ? apart from the fact its currently trendy for all the Arab nations to pretend to be united.
Ohhh and Dubai is a muslim country, you are correct and sorry we forgot this. Its just that the legalised drinking of Alcohol, Prostitution and acceptance of western infidels and their lack of morals made us all forget. Sorry.
PS If the Gaza strip is so important to the Arabs/Palastinians, then why did Egypt refuse it when offered it by the Isrealis in 1978 as part of the Camp David Agreement. The reason Egypt refused it was because they didnt want to govern it. It didnt occur to them to accept it on behalf of the Palastinians. but they accepted the Sinai peninsula, but no one was interested in this area apart from the Egyptians. United Arab nations indeed
 Flying Dutchman
What do you think? Arabs killing Arabs or Muslims killing Muslims doesn´t matter...but when a Jew kills an Arab, the worth of that life all of a sudden increases... ArchitectRoel
If you want to mourn, go to the cemetery and cry till morning...
The celebrations were not cancelled..parties have just started..
HAPPY NEW YEAR!! CHEERS!! ArchitectRoel
I have seen an Arabian map and I was suprised that there was no "ISRAEL" in the map! They hate the Jews so much..
Islam is supposed to be about PEACE not HATE. puppypup
Is this sarcasm or are u serious? If Islam is peaceful then Buddhism is the most violent philosophy/religion ever on earth. bridge Incredible hate. I will not bother replying back to these messages. I am officially closing my account on this new year's day. May God help all of you and your spiteful souls. arniegang
Not hate far from it, just an alternative viewpoint that coinsidentally does not agree with yours.
We don't need Gods help, i am sure we would all prefer to ask God to help all those involved in the current conflict, both Jewish and Palastinian. Maybe you should do the same Bridge.
Goodbye kanelli What's happening in Palestine is horrible, but Dubai cancelling New Year's celebrations to mourn what is happening is just a political move. No physical action taken to help Palestinians, just cancelling public partying. Wow, I'm sure that Palestinians appreciate Dubai's efforts. ArchitectRoel its true dude,i even show it to my muslim friend and he said wallah evrybody hates israel ..haha who loves israel? uaekid / smoggie "Incredible hate. I will not bother replying back to these messages. I am officially closing my account on this new year's day. May God help all of you and your spiteful souls. " Thanks for coming "BRO" You are fairly representative........ Run away when confronted with an opposing opinion. Goodbye and good luck. You will never progress until you can see the other sides point of view. Cheers....SMOGmonster..... kanelli So Dubai Rose, the decision came from the Sheikh, but all of the people of Dubai wished not to party for the New Year? If the government fireworks arrangements were to be cancelled, fine, but to force private establishments to have to cancel altogether, or cancel the live or recorded music etc. so that there isn't really a party is just ridiculous. If citizens want to mourn instead of party, they will cancel their own plans. If you find this issue important enough, then I hope you will not celebrate any other New Year, because somewhere in the world there are always atrocities going on, and you should be mourning not celebrating. Why should we celebrate and enjoy our lives at all, because somewhere other people are in pain. It would be shameful of us, wouldn't it? Chocoholic It's not even worth talking to these people, because they don't understand that the potential loses for Dubai last night could have been horrendous. When we've all gone and there's no more cash, no more flash cars and gadgets etc and they're back riding camels in the desert and the Dubai skyline and cumbled into nothingness, only then will they get it. Thankfully, most celebrations went ahead last night - the music was even banging! Chocoholic And for those that think I know nothing, I can tell you I know more about what's happening in your own country than most of you! I have lived in the ME nearly half my life. Christ most of you would survive in Saudi! Strangely I rather like the place! Oh and for the stupid comment about what would happen if someone voiced an opinion in my country, yeah you'd be allowed to get on with it, we'd give you a house, cash and free health cover, because in my country people like you get more rights than I do! Funny that! And you wonder why people have a thing against you? bridge pathetic bridge Newsflash: we can do just fine without you. You know it really is true when they say only the western scumbags come here, those that were rejected back home. The last few posts have just proved that. I know for a fact that not all of you are like this, only a small few. The problem is partly ours as well, as we have made you guys feel like you are actually worth something here. I work among you, and I have seen Indians who work twice as hard as you, and are 10 times smarter. Your ignorance is truly bind boggling. Mahmoud04 To Chocoholic: I don't know you, you don't know me, but take it easy , and don't think you know the world from your Internet connection even if its a 8 MB bandwidth, the world is quite bigger than an internet cable. M. Scotsman Not posted for a while now but had too after reading this. Without all the expats, clever or not, Dubai fails; ratio roughly 80% expats 20% nationals (may be out of date now, few cars left at Airport I heard!) Allare more than welcome in my home country, we accept all and their opinions generally and openly and do not enforce dictorial rules on a whim. Dubai for me = tourism and a transient place to work, lets see how many tourists return next year for the festivities after being left dissapointed and if Bridge etc attitude prevails, lets see how many will stay after VAT, Income taxes et all are introduced as well. I'll retrench, sooner rather than later, as will others I think - wisen up Dubai, nice place but the arrogance amongst some here is really spoiling it! quatroporte This thread is turning to be so useless now!!!!
I have two points to comment on this thread
first, The decision made about closing down the NYE parties is indeed is a disaster decision to all businesses and those who are into hospitality and travel know exactly what are the consequences... so many tourist groups came to dubai for this only 2 days NYE celebrations and the fact that those tourists arrived to Dubai finding that everything was canceled was a complete disaster... thankfully not all the events got canceled however many of the outdoors and the big concerts did indeed get canceled. I agree with Chocos and others this decision was not right.
Second, this is to Chocos; I need to comment on the way you started this thread using words like WTF and stupid etc etc.. while I know you meant to attack the decision to close down NYE parties from a Business perspective many others took it the other way around like you seem not caring about the moral value of the decision... which as a result this thread turned out to be a political fight club against you instead we all discuss other alternatives to spend this year.
I personally do support the moral decision to mourn for the Palestinians with a decision to cancel the fireworks and to take it easy with outdoor public celebrations would have been appreciated..
I don't believe that I have to close myself in a room and cry for the other disasters on earth. I personally gone out to party with friends we had a good time and we are SILL supporting and ready to support the Palestinians in anyway that we could.
A message to the other angry users to please stop taking things too personal and throw attacks in public.
respect to all
my two fills ArchitectRoel
If the western people didn't came here,I doubt if there were nice towers in Dubai... arniegang
Your 2 Fils are greatly appreciated Q and on that note thread locked. rudeboy wow. i never expected shaikh mohammed to do this. but honestly i support his decision and show the other muslim leaders what a good example he is.
