Does anyone know why the tenant is still having to pay for the agency fees in Dubai when renting a property. Shouldn't it be the landlord paying this as they own the property???
When property was booming and there was a shortage people didn't have a lot of choice but to pay it- but now things have changed or have they?
What do you think?

Well technically I think they should. And now that I have been looking for a apt in dubai ( Lived all my life in shj ) I'm hearing new charges everyday, Like chiller charges, housing fees, maintaince fees.
Some landlords trying to act smart and pushing the losses they have suffered due to the fall of the real estate market on to the tennats !

Its a renters market. What this means is that you can bargain with them and get all the fees out of your end of the contract so you dont have to pay for them.
In fact, just walk away from the deal if you dont like it, they will freak out and make it better for you.
for example, you can get free parking, free utiliites, free water, free internet, but you have to drive a hard bargain and make it sound like you are the best tenant ever.

That is correct but this is negotiation with the landlord. My issue is with paying the agency fees - the landlord should pay this. They are the ones having the agent work for them to find a good tenant and advertise the property.
Going back to the days when there wasn't enough property and the landlords were greedy they passed this cost over to the tenants who had no choice but to pay it.
This is now a tenants market - so why are we still expected to pay this?

in my case I'm paying 6% agency fees. I'm the landlord.

Does your tenant pay any fees to the agent when letting your property?
