Bleakus hi, im planning to travel to moscow(russia) in summer for my vacation. Not sure what the country is like even by google-ing it and checking it out. Anybody from russia or have visited russia can tell me their opinion about it?
fayz So that is what the Axe and Colgate are for, want to make a clean smelling first impression when you land?   Sorry I've never been to Russia but my parents have and they loved it but liked St. Petersburg a lot more than Moscow Have a read here: Enjoy your trip and make sure to write about it when you return. Bleakus excellent, im planning to go to their museums (makes me sound like a nerd), check out the paintball scene...the russian legion club maybe. Hang out with some friends...sounds like an idea thanks fayz Vita Hi,
glad to hear about your trip to Russia. It is beautiful country and has a lot to offer for travelers.
Of course, Moscow and St.Petersburg are major cities there.
I suggest to visit in Moscow:
- Kremlin grounds The Kremlin means “fortress”. The wall is 2235m long, up to 19m high and up to 6,5m thick. The Kremlin is the best museum and the official office of the Government and the Russian President. The crown jewels and many other historical things are also here in the Armory.
- Red Square . Red (Krasnaya) means “beautiful”. For centuries it is the center of Moscow life and during the Soviet time it was the place of parades. The focus of Red Square is the Lenin Mausoleum, beside the Kremlin Wall.
- The Cathedral of Christ the Savior
- The Bolshoi Theatre was founded in 1776 and the building was constructed in 1856. The hall is for more than 2000
- Novodevichy Convent (New Maiden Convent). Founded by Vasil III in 1514, it was used by the higher ranks of society. Now it is a museum with the office of the patriarch and one functioning church on its territory.
- Lomonosov University was founded in 1755 by poet and academic Michail Lomonosov. The central tower building is 240m, has 31 floors. The University is located on Sparrow's Hill , the highest spot of Moscow from which you can see all Moscow .
- The Victory Hill (Poklonnaya) has an open-air museum of the military equipment from the War including the tank T-34.
- The New Arbat Street is full of entertainment: bars, restaurants, casinos, etc.
- Moscow Circus you will never forget!
- Sergiev Posad . The town used to be called Zagorsk is located 69 km from Moscow , celebrated its 200 th anniversary in 1982, but the first settlement on this site arose in the 14 th century. The iconostasis of the Trinity Cathedral, in which the famous Trinity icon was located by Andrei Rublyov, is of great artistic value.
Trinity-St.Sergius Lavra, Monasteries and museums
I suggest to visit in St.Petersburg:
- Petergof . Palace and parks. Peterhof is 30 km to the west of S.Pb. The palace and park complex with its unique array of fountains began to take shape and archeological finds. Peterhof was founded in 1710 during Peter I's reign. The complex also includes smaller summer palaces
- Hermitage - One of the world's greatest museums, founded in 1764 and occupying the buildings of the Winter palace and Small, Old and New Hermitages.
The museums collection now numbers more than 3 million items – paintings, graphic art, sculptures, applied art, coins and archeological finds.
- Nevsky Prospect – one of the most beautiful streets in the world. It contains some splendid buildings: the Mikhailovsky Palace , the Alexandrinsky Theater, Kazan Cathedral and so on.
- Palace Square – the city's central square, one of the most famous architectural ensemble which includes the Winter Palace, the General Staff Headquarters, the Alexander Column
- Peter and Paul Fortress – the so-called “birthplace” of Saint-Petersburg – which was built 1703 to defend the city from the enemy raids
and many more...
