I subscribed to Dubai Forums about two days back and today I got the following message which we got used to it for the past 6 years +. It's a very old way to steel your money.. take care!
The message I got is this:

I got your contact through my search for a sincere person in , and I know that you will handle this matter with the most urgency.
I am Miss Fatimah Hassan from Ivory Coast in West Africa. It is my desire to contact you on honesty and sincerity to assist me in transferring the sum of $6,500,000(Six Million Five Hundred United States Dollars) inherited from my father late Alhaji Hassan who was a Gold merchant based in Accra and Abidjan to your country for investment.My late father died during last year's rebels attack for the presidential election which was supposed to hold last year.Before his deth last year,he deposited this money in a bank here in my country with an agreement that nobody that withdraw from it until it is being transferred into a foreign partner's bank account which I shall nominte as the next of kin. I am motivated in contacting you and hope to gradually build trust, relationship and confidence in you as I get to know you better.

what harm can come from someone getting hold of your phone number and address?
bank account, i understand...but the two 'she' asked for in the message...i dont see how that is harmful.
can someone explain this to me?

In the end they'll ask for your bank account....don't worry.
The other thing that they do is request that you send them $50,000 to pay for the shipping cost for the $10million in gold that will be delivered to your doorstep.
Don't worry about these professional criminals....they know all the tricks.

I guess so....or else they would stop. Although I guess this scam is getting old....I got my first letter from Nigeria about 20 years ago (back then they used to send actual letters).
Now phishing is becoming popular.
I'm sure they'll come up with something new in the near future.

Well, this is one of the scams from Nigeria where they contact someone to tell them they have a big amount of money and they need help. They are willing to make a split but when you're giving all the details to help them, then they are asking to send few thousand dollars because they have spent so much money to make all the arrangements and they are broke, well after that if you send the money they told you you can kiss them goodbye :) You never hear from them!!!
Too many people have been victims of this fraud in Europe and USA, if i can find an interesting thread about it i'll post it.

Concerning 419'S In Dubai, here it is :
A year back i was working part time in a friends internet cafe, in deira.
A lot of people from nigeria, ghana used to come to the cafe. ( As it was right next to African Home restaurant in Deira - i wonder if any of you have hear about it ). Well the location itself is too familiar to the african folks.
These people, used to get into the cafe as gentlemen, but by the time they are using the PC's, the connection got slower everytime. I did suspect something was wrong. Every single computer they used, got infected by virus every now and then & i had to opt for deep freeze to secure it for a time being.
I spied on them, monitored them & found these fcuking gentle men extracting e-mails, writing templates and shitting around.
I never cared if they consumed so much of my bandwidth or even if my other customers had problem surfing the internet, but the sad part is they used to make hassle in paying. Idiots !
I monitered them for several weeks now for fun.. bugging them around.. closing their applications remotely, switching their PC's off..it was fun then. eventually i had to ban some of those people from coming in, coz they used to pick fight, and as i remember a fight i had went upto the police.
i did prepare a complete report of their activities, hacked their fake email passwords, even got their phone numbers with me, to report it to the police as i planned.
after leaving the part time job i decided to report this to dubai police & the local news papers and the following is what i had:
i e-mailed dubai police with the details & exact activities & the scammers location : no reply from them
i posted on their website forum: my post got deleted from dubai police website.
i contacted evening post : i held 3 meetings with a reporter who demanded proof. at first i was not ready to give the proof since my friends cafe would close down or the comptuers there could get confiscated for using illegal copies of MS Windows. but then later on after long discussions and enquiries about them & what they do, i finally gave the reporter a hacked email account of thiers, which had emails of victims, which could proove their existence in dubai & their success in fooling people around dubai. later on she demanded on making a live recording of their activity. i recorded their screens and made couple of cd's. called her up back and said i got proof. She said she was busy interviewing a bollywood actor & would get back to me. She never did.
gulfnews people called me after e-mailing them: they asked details & never called back. they did write a small article covering the impact & their tricks..but nothing locally happening..
overall: folks in dubai arent concerned.. responsible people are yawning and deleting posts, while the media is busy with media people. shoot !
i could have helped them catch hundreds of scammers and fakers from dubai, but its all of no use saying this.
i remember posting this same article long back in dubaiforums, and what response i got was : an email in my box from some african idiot based in dubai cursing me like hell for insulting african theives. i even wrote him back with my mobile number included.. i dared him to call..but unfortunately no call.
africans are good people, but they get no attention, because of which they are forced to commit such things. but some people among them are just too harmful and devil minded.

So you see how irresponsible the media & the folks here in U.A.E are, in terms of CyberCrime.
May be i should post back on their actions, how they do it, how they make fool out of people & how much they earn through this, to make people aware.
