hi. i`m planning to import a bicycle for US. what is the import / customs duty % that i will have to pay? the value of the bicycle is around $1200. any help is deeply appreciated .

it depends on the type of product. Each category has different rate.

My point was there is different rate for each, hardly anyone will know unless they have imported a bicycle. Rarely people import bicycle is good bicycles are already available here. I imported some camera equipment, and each category had different rate. Tools had none, electronic related I don't remember but there was some. And another category had another. But I doubt any category would have above 10%, but don't quote me on this one.

I think I am correct in saying that Customs duty in the UAE is generally 5% of the total value inclusive of freight.

Normally you pay duty on anything over 300 dolalrs, and it's 5% of the value, unless it's classed as a luxury item, in which case it's more.
