Is a mobile version for Dubaiforums.com necessary?

Yes it is. I would gladly use Dubai forums from my mobile.

No. I don't think there is demand. Not many people with advanced mobile devices in Dubai

Browsing dubai forums from mobile. Sep 25, 2008
Just wondering how many people tried to browse Dubai forums from a mobile phone or pda.
Is it a good idea to make a mobile version?

I use my iPhone. Without any iPhone version format, the forum is fantastic....

Before I go to bed, as soon as I woke up...

Hahahhahahha :) It's just great :) Lying in the bed reading hilarious posts.

Sometimes I find difficulty typing because the screen is small and I can use only my point finger, so if there are posts from my end with wrong spelling, for sure I've used my phone that time!

Thanks farthestpoint for a quick reply.
So you are saying that there is no need for a separate version of DF for iphones?
What I want to do is remove all the "unnecessary" stuff like images, icons, avatars.. it will be more compact and everything will fit on the screen of the device so that you don't need to scroll left and right. It will load much faster and use less bandwidth. I'm using opera mini and I have to scroll a lot on my mobile.
I don't know how it looks on a iphone though.

For me, I like to always see the same. I am more comfortable in it.

I use it for Facebook too, but I always resort to the regular site format.

I don't have any issues with page loads and speed, hmmm ok for that matter because I have 2mbps at home.

Personally, I would love to see the avatars when I view the forum, it's more like home!

I bought the latest version!

It has a pin hole camera, a telephone directory on a piece of string attached to the side and morse code key SMS system.

The Heinz 57 is the top of the range model!

The template is not yet ready but the site is already browseable from mobiles that support xhtml.

The question now is, what would be the better solution to automatically detect mobile phones and switch to this new template or let logged in users change the template themselves?

farthestpoint wrote that he likes to browse the normal version with his iphone. I don't have an iphone to try so I decided that for guests the site will auto detect the mobile device and switch to the mobile style and logged in users will be able to switch to any style they want.

So the beta version of the template is already active if you access dubai forums from your mobile as a guest you will see a version optimized for a 240x320 screen. It's not finished yet so if you have problems with anything let me know.
Also it may happen that your mobile is not detected, if it's so let me know what mobile it is.

Kind Regards,
Andrew
