Recycling: Where in Dubai?

Concord Folks, I have probably over 100 empty cans and plastic bottles I don't want to throw them out in the garbage (but them my apt will look like a street persons abode). Anyone know a please to recycle them? I live in the Marina Area. And you do know whether I just simply bring them in or is there a hazzle. I am surprised (or maybe should not be) that there is no recycling program in Dubai (at least none that I am aware of) Thanks.
arniegang Nahhhhhhhhhhhh, has Kanelli paid you to post this by any chance ?? Just chuck em in the bin.  constantine arnie  actually there is one near where i live...the springs...there is a choitrams at the springs which has 3 seperate recycle bins for bottles/paper/plastic....been recycling there for 2 months....easy enough if you can be bothered to drive down...also i recall that chiotrams does have a recylcing plan in some of its branches...worth giving them a call and finding out... arniegang Cons dont you start   K has already told me about the new recycling scheme, she was soooooooo excited, but i tried to educate her the "arnie way to recycle" but i didnt think she was too impressed   constantine i aint no treehugger...but i try and do me bit  ....you know saving the future generations and all....haha!!...having said that am off for afternoon beers before bowling...arnie hope to see ya in this part of the world soon mate... arniegang be over next month buddy will be sure to hook up  Concord
No but recycling doesn't hurt anybody.
It's like wearing a seatbelt - you don't have to but if you don't: perhaps a fine, a bump in the forehead or death. kanelli Arniegang is a lost cause I think  I'm not sure where you live concord, but there are recycling bins at some gas stations, and local shopping centres - you just need to check your local area. Our area (Springs) has a new recycling program, but I don't know what their range of service is. We have just signed up and are waiting for our Project Green Earth boxes. On a certain day in the week they will come to our door and collect cans, glass, newspapers, cardboard, and plastic. Awesome :D / (Once on the page, click the link to download the brochure.) arniegang There we go told ya - K's on da case   GAB DESS also have recycling containers at the front of the school on Oud Metha. I always think that Dubai Recycling is an oxymoron. You buy five items and get six plastic bags.

Concord What's DESS? GAB Sorry, being a JJ (Jumeirah Jane) and a mummy I forgot you wouldn't know! It is a school-Dubai English Speaking School-they have the containers at the front of the school inside the gate-the guard at the gate is a nice bloke and he'll point you in the right direction. Dubai Knight Spinneys on Trade Centre Road has recycling bins at the back, not sure if any of the others do. Just glass plastic and paper for now but sure they will refine it and we'll have a full system for cans and stuff before too long.   Knight arniegang Gawdddddddddddddd Not you 2 as well  :P :P :P Dubai Knight It surprises the hell out of me just how much rubbish I generate in the this country! Just chucking it all in the bin is a crime...back home we would never have done it and I think it is a good thing for everyone to do...before we all drown in little blue plastic bags, non biodegradable plastic water bottles and crap McDonalds boxes that have a half life of about a million years! Take a trip down the Emirates Road and, just as you get to Sharjah, wind down your car window and try to breathe! The municipal waste dump there creates a smell that is almost undescribable! Recycling is the law in many European coutries now, why not here?   Jolly Green Knight Concord Thanks Gab, Now that I know what it is; where is it? Perhaps closer to the Marina than the other suggestions. arniegang DK SHUT UP    arniegang Anymore positive posts about recycling and i will lock the thread. :P :P Dubai Knight But Arnie me old mucker...aren't you worried where all the empty champagne bottles and foie gras (go for his ankles Chocs!!!!) tins end up after you dump them outside? When the pile reaches your balcony what then? I have to say I have been recycling all my Turkish Delight wrappers and they make wonderful thermal blankets for terrapins! My wooden stirring spoon has honed edges!!!   Knight
Concord I wonder whether the reclycling centers above mentioned will have a reaction to recycling beer cans and wine or hard liquor bottles. Could be interesting. Palkid7
Someone has been reading alot about Geology stuff!!
     Dubai Knight
Actually I heard somewhere that every single McDonalds container and every single 'disposable' nappy (diaper for the Yanks!) that has ever been made is still in existence and will be 1,000 years from now! Apparently they dont break down! Burning them releases toxic gases into the atmosphere, so most are either dumped in landfills or ground down to make duvets fillings or something!
Hurrumph!

That's why in environmentally minded countries they only use recyclable packaging - ie. plastic wrappers & cardboard boxes. Makes sense. arniegang DK I live way toooooooooo far up to have rubbish piled up outside my balcony. 8) Look lets get things into perspective the Arnie way. I'm all for recycling as long as i dont have to do it.   Dubai Knight
You wouldn't anyway mate...its womans work!
(I'm ducking for when that one hits the airwaves!)

Knight arniegang Good idea DK "a womans work is never done" me taking cover as well now - run awayyyyyyyyyyy   GAB
DESS is near Lamcy and Wafi-now that'll confuse you even more!! Concord Gab, Thanks I am sure I'll find it by simply looking at the many reliable maps of Dubai - may end up in India instead but.. GAB
Reliable maps in Dubai!!   PMSL Dubai Knight
same same!

Knight GAB See you in Global Village mate!!  arniegang
I dont know who is worse
You Gabs
or me using a navigator
    MaaaD There are recycling bins next to the choitram's at the Greens too Concord Success! To Arnie's chagrin and Kanell's delight I've finally managed to recycle my ever growing number of cans and bottles. I did it at Spinney's on Al Wasl road (in Jumeirah 3 ?). They have large bins in the back and it is hasle free (simply dump the stuff there). If I lived in Michigan I would have made some cash (10 cents USD return per can or bottle). The total for all the cans and bottles I dropped off (6 large garbage bags) would probably amount to more money that the stock people or cashiers make in a week (or even month) for working 12 hours a day seven days as week!!!! Holy cow! arniegang Conc You drove with rubbish in your car to Al Wasl Rd  Get a life buddy, just chuck the stuff down the shoot will ya.   Recycling ahhhhhhhhhh humbug Concord No fear - I was incognito. Next time I'll just throw it out the window (only 36 floors down) let someone else recycle! I'll just tape your DF user name to each can! Sounds like a plan don't it! arniegang Actually i chuck the rubbish out my window when the wind is in your buildings direction,    Concord That was you? Hey bud, next time don't forget to include the PIN number (makes it easier!)with the bank statements you are flinging out the window (makes it easier, you konw). I'll be looking for it. arniegang So it was you i hit on the head with the rubbish bag then, my goal is to get my rubbish to fly upwards to the rooftop pool, problem is at the moment is theres never anyone up there    Concord You will be shocked to learn that the pool "officially" openned yesterday 25-5. They have a lifeguard upthere. How ridiculous is that!!!! Some SUV's are bigger than that pool. I still think they'll be closing it again in less than a week! arniegang you really goota lifeguard - thats soooooooooooooooo OTT I've seen bigger puddles than your pool     Concord Slight correction; my pool is bigger than the pool in the building where I live at the moment! I'll have to put an ad for 2 lifeguards then (but luckily I have a bit more sense than...)
