YES it would be stupid.

normal hours without traffic and assuming you drive close to the speed limits would be 60-90 minutes.

Well, if you liked driving and setting out REAL early in the morning, then it wouldn't be totally stupid.

On a clear day with no traffic it can take about 45 minutes to get form UAQ to Good Dubai. On a work day, it would take you about 2 hours.

Possibly, depending on where you work in Dubai. You could avoid the National Paint jam by getting on to the 611 road.

Am I correct in thinking that UAQ marina isn't actully built yet? Such a shame they are destroying a huge area of natural beauty in UAQ

Don't worry, to replace those they have the money to build artificial lakes, canals, bays, lagoons, wildlife sanctuaries, etc elsewhere ;)

They are going to ruin it. Been going there (and still do almost every weekend) for over 6 years and its about the only natural and unspoilt bit of the UAE left, but not for long.
There is already a huge EMAAR industrial zone being built, like something out of Sim City, near the Emirates Motorplex, then there is a massive golf resort and villa development planned between the Shooting Club and Ras Al Khaimah, Dreamland Aquapark is expanding, the Aeroclub is being turned into an 'international' airport, the town is going to be developed to look like something out of the movie Metropolis...and then there is the new "Marina".
There seem to be 3 (YES, three!!) new palaces being built by the side of the lagoon, one for each of the sons of the ruler, with prime waterfront locations and suitable surrounding land. Rumour has it they are being built for free by the developers in return for land deals.

Is there no part of the UAE that the money hungry developers are going to leave alone?
