UK Bank Paying Mortgage In UAE

Does anyone have a UK bank paying mortgage on a property in Dubai? I've been told to take out a mortgage in the UAE, I need to be a resident. I obviously don't have the money to buy the property outright.

From what I know they won't - they will let their local/Dubai branch arrange it and if they don't have one they won't lend.
