Hi! I have just been offered a job in Dubai to work for a high end Real Estate company. They told me they could only pay me 9,000 DHS per month! I know real estate is very heavily commissioned but I am concerned that won't be enough for me and my wife to live on. We bother have good jobs in London where we take home around £3,600 between us which is more or less 21,000dhs. What are your tips on what you would do? My wife if worries we will lose our good life in London and it won't work out where I think it's a great opportunity and I know I will do well and the company and make loads of money in the next few months. My main concern is what we will do for the 1st 3 months or so.!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hi JK, honestly speaking thats a gooid salary for a real estate to offer you on a monthly package as a basic + Commission.

But let me warn you on how real estate market works here.. what one offers does not mean you will see that at the end of the month... and theres no gaurantee that you will last at that job... this aint UK the law and the people are completly different with there mentalities etc.

you dont earn commission to cover certain cost they wont have any use for you... its a dog eat dog world here in the real estate market.

Some good agent in the market here in dubai with several years of experience get arround 5k - 9k + 50% commission. the market is slightly changing and there is a demand for good agents... look at the structure of your commission rather than the basic the real money is in the commission.

newbies in the market get less with less commission. way less

you need to decide whether its worth your while... its going to be tough for the first three months.. dont be extravagant on your living until you find your feet here.

things to consider;

Rent

DEWA

Car

Food

Extra's

AED 9,000 will not cover that at all unless your both earning. but then again spend less on everything and you may be able to survive.

some people make it while others fall and fall hard and end up going back with nothing.

do your reasearch on the company all real estates here state that they are high end.. and the bigger the comapny the bigger the liars.

i have 20 years of experience in this market i know what im talking about.

Hi Bugs! Thanks for the feedback. I know the company is huge and one of the best as a friend if mine works for them too. It's Damac! The commission is 0.30% rising to 0.50% depending on the amount you bring in. 4m dhs - 8m+dhs is the usual amounts they expect you to hit. Is that normal?

Almehtabshaikh , to get a job in Dubai, you need to apply for a job. For that, you need a professional CV and a very impressive cover letter.

If you have good work experience (at least 5 years) as well as education, then it will be easier to get a job as many companies require experienced individuals.

Once you have your CV and cover letter prepared, search for jobs in your industry and start applying. You should have a separate CV for each type of job you are applying to. For example, if you have worked as an engineer and also have experience in teaching and want to secure either type of job, don't send one and the same CV to both types. instead, have a different CV for each. Each CV should focus on the work you have done in that particular industry.

Your cover letter should also be unique. Never copy and paste the same cover letter. Instead, edit your cover letter for each job vacancy, including some details of the skills required for the job. It's true that this will take a lot of time but you'll be more successful in your job search. Always focus on quality than quantity. If you send out 5 well written and thoughtful job applications, you'll be more successful than sending out 100 generic job applications.

You can use recruitment agencies or CV distribution services but I don't know how successful you will be with these. Some services, especially the free recruitment agencies, have so many job seeking clients that you CV never reaches the employer. Furthermore, if the agency also provides premium services at a cost, then preference will be given to the paying clients and you'll be unsuccessful in applying for work through them. It will only be a huge waste of time. Other services that charge you a small amount to place your profile on their website and send your CV to hundreds of employers are not very beneficial because the CVs are sent to all the emails in their database, whether the employer has a job vacancy or not and whether the applicant's profile fits the job or even the industry. Thus, a doctor's CV will be sent to a bank, a petroleum company, an architectural company, etc etc! Such a service will not provide you with much results. It will only be a waste of money.

If you are going to hire someone to write your CV or cover letter, make sure you hire someone who doesn't use copy & paste techniques. Each CV and cover letter should be written individually. Companies charge between AED 100 and 500 for writing CVs and cover letters so they should give each CV individual attention. So make sure they promise you that. Your CV and cover letter should also be 100% error-free. Check your CV and cover letter (or have it checked by a qualified individual) to make sure it is error-free. If it contains errors, then have it revised.

If, after sending out your CV to recent vacancies, you haven't received a call for interview, relook at your CV and cover letter and your jobsearch strategies. It's highly likely you are doing something wrong. Try to find out what it is and correct it.

Good luck in your job search

Depends what work you intend doing here. I would say that they would not offer your 10k as a porter in the UAE, this would probably be in the region of 2000-2500 AED per month, given the amount of "cheap" labor that is available here.

Other considerations are that as hotel staff you are normally provided with accommodation and transport to and from work (from the accommodation); this means that you would not have these expenses.

There would be a few things that I would check with the hotel group before applying for anything: salary (basic), whether accommodation is included (which it will probably be), whether washing and dry cleaning of your uniforms is included, how many days a week they expect you to work (hospitality industry here is normally 6 days per week). What positions they have available as well. As I said, coming from the UK I seriously doubt that you would be able to get 10k simply as a porter; 10k is normally what they would pay a shift manager in a reasonable hotel 3 star hotel here.

Hello friends

Since most people participating in this thread are already working in UAE, I wanted your kind guidance to a fellow aspiring worker.

I am expecting to receive a job offer soon. Whilst interviewing I did not declare one of my previous employers. The employment was
only a few months and I didn’t leave on good terms with that employer.

I wanted to know what
information on past employers does the UAE government request as part of the
work visa/residency visa process
. The reason I ask is that I have also
applied for Australian immigration and was afraid that the Australian
immigration department in its background check on me would compare employers
with the UAE government. I am afraid since I have declared all my employers
(including this one) on my Australian immigration application. So when they see
the difference, they might use this as grounds for rejecting my application.

Thank you dear friends very much

The visa process does not ask for any references at all. This is for your employer only. However, not stating correct information on your resume is grounds for termination under the UAE labour law

Thank you that was indeed beneficial. Sometimes to get a job in a business consultancy company on a special position we need attested degrees as well' So better is to get attested with your own country first.
