Are most shops and stuff closed during the day - or is it pretty much business as usual just quieter?

By law you're suppose to work two less hours per day but depending on your industry this may not actually materialize. Malls and stuff open a little later in the morning and stay open to ~3am if memory serves. Nighttime during Ramadan is awesome, hit an iftar tent or 2 if you can.

First week of Ramadan can be OK, but it does take a little time to get used to the fact that you cannot smoke in public during the day or even be seen drinking water. Food is delivered to your office and there are restaurants open behind closed shutters.

Second week, everyone is getting a little weary and some tempers can fray. The stayin up late into the night, strange meal meal times and stress of having to work all day as well, gets to people.

Week 3 is hell! Everyone is grumpy and the number of traffic accidents doubles...strange that! Road rage is common and a lot of people actually take to their beds in the day and are not seen during daylight hours!

Week 4 and everyone is starting to get into party mode as the Eid is approaching and they can get themselves ready for it...towards the end of the week there is a great feeling of anticipation and, when they announce the Eid...there are big celebrations and fireworks and the next few days are one huge party.

The day after...it feels strange to be allowed to smoke and drink in public again and you feel guilty if you do! We can get used to anything even over that short period of time.

Just my observations of 5 Ramadans in Dubai!

They don't do leftovers of someone elses contract...only delete if subject becomes a threat or infected with virus...then we can wipe him out.
