Expected salary/ IT job scenario Sep 09, 2008
Hi,

I am a software engineer with 2+ years of IT exp- 1yr in Testing and 1 yr in SAP. My SAP exp till now doesn't include any project exp. I have been working on an internal tool for my company.

I want to shift to Dubai. What salary can I expect? More importantly, I did not find any major IT company there. Can anyone help me with that? What is the situation for IT professional there? I am ready to switch to Sales/ HR/ PR too as it suits my interests. Will I get a chance to work in such a profile? How much salary can I expect as I will not have a prior exp in such domains?

Kindly help me.....

any IT professionals in Dubai who can help us with this one? Sep 10, 2008
Im also interested in knowing what salary package to expect being a software engineer with 2-3 years experience especially in Java/J2ee space? I have a New Zealand passport, does that matter? as I heard it might do. I guess what I'm asking is what an 'average' salary for a western IT professional is? and what is an 'above average' salary package in case you negotiate well?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Near my place there is Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, Cisco etc. Well, at least there are buildings with those names on the front, not too sure how large their operations are. I have heard on the grapevine that IBM is looking to expand its Dubai operation up to 2000 people soon.

I'm currently working in a Software Engineering role so there are jobs out there.

I don't really want to post my salary information for obvious reasons and I'm no expert but total packages for Systems/Software/Test Engineers are (I'm guessing) between 20K and 40K, maybe up to 50K a month (Dirhams) for more senior engineering roles. The grad at work gets maybe low 20s, but he is straight out of uni. He is also an Emirati so who knows. Everyone else is a western expat with experience.

Passport wise, a NZ passport is good. It means you can get a visa on arrival. Easier than coming here on an Indian passport for example, sorry priyankas_rai.

Hope the info helps.

Cheers mate for the info. hmm between 20-40 k in dirhems for a software engineer. That's rather good! I heard you can only get something between 10-15 k for someone with 3 years of western experience. Strange sounds like it varies A LOT. Anyone else out there that wants to put their 2 cents in??

Cheers

Hi
i'm a network engineer working for an ISP in dubai
salaries is not that good and the 10 to 15 K is the average as you said BUT the "Captain Australia" was talking about IBM in the internet city so there is a different.
here alot of companies gives a great packages up to more than 35k $ but it need a specified specialists like for my career CCIE is the best paid jobs
wish to you all good luck and you can take a tour in the search a job sites some of it give info about the packages, and also don't forget that there are a huge competetion with Aisans and as i heared they r good in software market.

Bit more info...

Besides the local grad that I mentioned, everyone else has quite a bit of large project experience. I have the least experience out of everyone with about 7 years. So that might skew the data.

Make sure you factor in the stupidly expensive rent into any calculations of how much you are getting paid. I would have asked for more if I had known just how expensive the rent would be.

I agree! Such a pity though here in western countries software engineers are valued both in remuneration and working environment, however, reading what you guys are saying about the case in Dubai it sounds as it's not a very good career field. Having said that, I'm sure if someone looks hard enough they might find something good. Any advise on what to do when looking for a software engineering job for someone with western experience. Example: I heard that if applying for a British compnay then salaries might be higher. Anything else?
