DIC Internet - Restrictions?

DIC internet - restrictions? Jan 27, 2007
I have a question regarding Internet use in the DIC region and marina/greens area.

Internet connections are not proxyed by Etisalat so there are no restrictions. When looking at YouTube there is access here to what could be classed as pornography? Whilst most of the content is harmless there is some content that is risky - are the connections in DIC monitored? Are there issues with accessing this?

I'm interested because the Etisalat connection is so restricted yet DIC doesn't appear to be. (not for the p<3n)!

Also are there restrictions on file sharing programs such as P2P, Limewire, Bittorrent etc used for downloading MP3's - is this monitored and can you get into trouble for using this is the UAE.

Everything can be monitored from an ISP, it's whether someone:

(a) actually looks at the logs
(b) does something about it when something pops up.

I'm guessing by the complete lack of coverage on the issue in any paper, it's relatively safe to accidentally look at p<3n on the DIC connection.

But... I have also heard through reliable source that DIC will begin proxying this year (undetermined date, but have heard sooner than later).

Well, discussion of P2P sharing etc. is not allowed on this forum. But I thik if you try you might be surprised what works and what doesn't.

Etisalat might have gone to the level as on of the most effective blocking of sites. But what I believe, Dubai wants business to be set up here like a major hub kind of a thing. Now much as rather than the normal population they are attracting a lot of european sectors and stuff so if ppl coming down here for business and see sites getting blocked it goes in a bad way, like marina and places max I heard they are just using etisalat lines but some different small companies like giving like a prepaid service.

Think about it u pay like 500000 to 1 mil for a house in marina or set up a company in dic and next thing this comes, wouldnt u be pissed so maybe to attract they are doin this and leaving it unblocked and when ppl come later they will implement it of blocking.

Even like they start blocking whichever sites have the hard core, hardcore has nothing related to sex it's a term to explain like hardcore advertising, it's a hardcore song etc etc. But try explaing that to etisalat.

No, it's because Tecom/Du handle the internet in a lot of the Freezones and Emaar developments, and they don't have proxy filtering.

Proxy filtering isn't even required by law, it's just a 'service' Etisalat provide.

The business case has been put forward so many times over and over, but they haven't shown any signs of budging on it, and in fact Tecom is under pressure to implement one as well.
