What internet service do you all use in dubai? is it fast? How much does it cost? I am coming in a few weeks and trying to decide if I should buy an Apple iSight Camera as a cost effective way of avoiding international phone charges. I need about 128kbps or more.
cheers

I read somewhere that Etisalat is big on internet censorship?
I dont mind p<3n sites being blocked, but does anyone know if music/bittorrent sites are blocked?
www.thepiratebay.org
www.mininova.org

Skype, Kazaa, SoulSeek, IRC...Do they work?

Any info would be greatly appreciated :D

The first site is blocked the second is not. Depends what the content of the site is.

Etisalat are crap there's no two ways about it.

I miss www.suprnova.org....Ever since they've been forced to shut down bittorrents, they've turned into a ringtone download site! Etisalat claims they're not the one's responsible for the blocking and its range, but rather the Ministry Of Info has direct influence on that....of course they outsource a lot of their filtering to companies in the US etc...

Etisalat's DSL service seems to be a lot more problematic than Dial-up as well...especially of late...I recently 'upgraded', but not very happy..don't think its that they don't want to help (their customer support people are very prompt and efficient when they can be), just that they don't have control over the situation...out of their depth

There's no blocking of peer to peer stuff like Kazaa iMesh etc only webpages

They really are a strange bunch...Why block websites and not block P2P...You can get pretty much EVERYTHING from P2P...
