Help! First car to own

So this will be my first car to own. Previously I just rented from rental company or borrowed from my office. I don't know much other than basics about car ( it's obvious as I've never had one ;) ). What do you think of either purchasing new car or second hand? Purpose: daily office trip, almost nig...

US/EU cars... are they expensive to maintain?

I guess it has been a common rumour, hasn't it? (in Dubai, when got accident or warranty expired). Is that true?
And what about reliability over Jap's?

Personally I don't like Jap's that much either. Lack of security. Bumper is just a cosmetics.

Confused.

I guess the headrests option would be the most suitable for the kids. as to the rest I really have no idea as i am a true novice. I'd appreciate it if you could enlighten me as to what the single and double DIN means ... Tx Another alternative is to buy Portable Media Player (PMP) like Vosonic 8360...

On the SUV part

Thanks for the info. After reading some reviews, including drivearabia you promoted (thanks), I've narrowed my choices on the SUV part (I take out RAV4 as I guess it's out of my budget): 2-4 years second hand: honda crv, nissan xtrail, hyundai tucson (I heard the engine is similar to Toyota's?) What...

Is that bad? Hmm I guess I should stick to new compact/sedan cars (narrowed to Tiida or Mazda 3)? As I can't afford to buy new SUV :(

your question is too broad... what do you like to do?

going to malls, cinemas, clubs, parks, trip out of town, doing sports, stay at home, etc. almost anything you can imagine.

In 2001 to Paris (14 hours). First flight ever (even never had domestic flights)! First time out of home country, for working. Scared of turbulence and goofy all the time on how to "behave" on meals, drinks, seats, etc

Check http://www.lyngsat.com to know all the satellites positions and programs. It has SatTracker that can tell if you can point (azimuth, elevation) to specific satellite from any place in the world. Apparently you still can point to Hotbird 13°E from Dubai (azimuth to South West, elevation about 3...

Yeah, last Saturday was like being hit by a sledge hammer! There's no way Inter can beat Milan :D But overall I'm quite satisfied with Milan's fighting spirits, seeing their poor performance in the last few games. The best derby so far, second to 6-0 win few seasons ago :D I suppose if it's digital ...

Thanks in advance. When you'll be coming? The rest we'll do by PM ;) BTW, apparently coolstreaming.com has been defunct (?). Tried few streams, (one of them is http://wwitv.com) but can't find Milan Channel yet. After all, most of the stream quality is not very good (I'd like to record or something).

Dubai-based travel & ticketing sites?

Anyone knows if there's any travel sites where I can check schedule and get a ticket fare quote (real, instant, actual fare not full fare)?

I disagree that an African American would be paid less than a Caucasian in the UAE. There is no racism in the UAE if you are black, however you might face prejudice or different treatment if you are South Asian .. Although again i see that happening more often to the unskilled labor and poorer peop...

But if the Asian manager had a foreign passport i think he would be paid the same as his Caucasian colleague. Right ? Could be. That's why I had a wish to have a second passports (e.g. Canadian, etc) for easier travels (almost no visa requirements) and "better" treatments. I wonder if I c...

Yep, take a look at job ads in newspapers... "must be US/UK/AU/NZ/SAF educated". What's wrong with non-US/UK education? If the language is the main concern, why don't they just put "must be English native speakers"?

Re: Extent of internet censorship in Dubai?

I work from home using the internet and I need to use sites like Wikipedia and many other related sites that are banned in some countries. 1. What is the extent of internet censorship in Dubai? 2. I hear if you live in a certain "zone" you will not have censorship. Is this true? 3. Are si...

MaaaD, thanks for the info. However, octopustravel has only hotels/tours bookings, no flight bookings. And I presume most of airlines' websites normally offer full fares rather than the real/agent's fare. Will check though. The reason than to call/visit travel agent directly is that mostly I prefer ...

Urgent! Fixing scratched bumper

Great! What a day! I have to return my rented car in few days and this afternoon when leaving office I found my car got deep scratches (about 20x10 cm) on the back bumper by other car. Does anyone know where and how much approx for fixing it quickly (repaint partially)? The car is 2005 Lancer GL, me...

what you worried about, its a damn rental. Call the cops, get them to fill out a Accident report. You should get the green form, as it was not your fault, then take it to the rental company, hand in the car and the green form and walk away. Also, call the rental company and tell them what happened....

Despite the discriminatory job ads, i still find it challenging to compete with those *** educated. And believe me, it really depends on how you market yourself to get the job. I agree. Personally, I don't have this kind of problem yet as I have some international experiences and specific sk...

Ok, just got the green form from the police. Now what do you suggest? Make a small repair in garage without informing the rental company (the cost will mostly be a lot less), or just inform them (gambling whether they will still charge me 1000 AED for damage or not). What will mostly be? Any recomme...

Guys, even if you get the green form if it does not state an at fault party then the insurance/car rental places consider it an "own damage" claim - ie you pay! Bring it to a paint shop and have it spot sprayed - around 100-200dhs. Will try to fix it today as tomorrow I need to return the...

Digital satellite channels need not big dish. 95cm is standard and should be more than sufficient. The only thing is for you to get the decoder (and smart card for pay TV).
