Lawyer salary

Hi all - just some quick salary advice required. What salary can be expected for a one year qualified lawyer (Scottish/English) in Dubai? I've been offered 36,000AED per month plus bonus and am wondering if this is a decent salary or not? Most concerned about what type of apartment I could live in c...

Thanks DBX Would be working for an international firm in a commercial/projects role. Coming from the UK, it seems like quite a good offer (mainly because tax-free!). Just concerned that as i have no idea of the cost of living I dont really have any sort of comparison to make - 35,000AED may be rubbi...

Wow - you certainly know you're stuff! Rent sounds absolutely extortionate - but girlfriend is coming out with me (no kids) and she'll probably be on roughly the same wages so rent will hopefully be manageable. What areas shall we look at? No vehicle allowance, and we are planning on buying a car wh...

Car recommendations

Hi all

What dealerships/showrooms are recommended/reputable for purchasing a car?

I've read a lot about car fraud (4x4 motors allegedly involved) and obviously want to avoid this at all costs.

Any suggestions most welcome.

Cheers.

The $100 oil price was a bit of a fallacy.

It was a one-man show who bought the minimum number of barrels and then immediately sold them at a loss.

Presumably he did this to claim he was the first person to buy oil at $100.

Scarlet (or anyone) - do you know where I could buy the Greg Hunt "They Saddle Dogs" book from online.

Thinking of driving back to the UK once my time is up in Dubai.

Lots of good reviews of it on google but can't seem to find an online bookstore that sells it.

Cheers.

Think the minimum investment is 1,000 barrels. He lost a total of about $600 in the end.

A small price to pay for the right to say that you were the man that broke the $100 oil mark. Or a complete waste of money.

No bank will give a current account without residency, it is the law because they are not allowed to issue credit cards and cheque books to any non resident. I saw a reference in one of those magazines with a table of bank accounts etc (MoneyWorks?) to HSBC being an exception. Maybe it was a saving...

Importing a car from the UK?

Moving to Dubai/Abu Dhabi in April and wondering if I can ship over my Lotus Elan S2 (1994) from the UK? I've heard that because its a RHD it might be a problem. However, Ive also heard it may be possible if you "know a local" - what does this mean? If I take it across and dont register it...

Rudeboy - just posted my query yesterday and plan to move to Dubai/AD in April. So will be looking to ship the car out then. At this stage I am looking for the same answers as you - can a RHD be registered (what is this chat about "if you know a local")? How much does importation cost? etc...

So you can register a RHD in AD under a local's name. Sounds good to me.

Are expat residents "local" or do you mean someone born and bred in UAE?

Think this fight starts around 5am.

Anyone know if this is on TV or if any pubs will be open to show this?!

Agree - it's pretty simple. All you need to do is look at the match attendances, TV audience figures and the sponsorship money of the respective sports to realise which is the more popular.

Popularity, by definition, is an indicator of whether something generates interest and is, therefore, boring or not.

A rather hypocritical, ill-reasoned and ignorant thing to say. I'm "railing" against cricket, but I'm not from an "ignorant community".

There will be a correction in prices, but not a drop. The price increases may well drop, but I'm not convinced the prices themselves will drop in the immediate future. Oversupply will hit the market but in the short-term this will only affect the size of investors' premiums and they won't be making ...
