Looks like NOC rule is going to severely restrict anyone thinking of changing jobs within dubai. I talked to many HR people and all of them agree that there is little that can be done about it. NOC can not be over ruled for financial considerations. I have already resigned from my present job after...

Tulloolah,

We are a couple with a 1-yr-old. There is absolutely no way that we would be able to live here on 9000 a month, even with accommodation paid for. Trust me, don't do it - you'll be living off your savings.

Tulloolah, we pay about AED7,500 per term (three terms a year, so about 22,500 a year) for five mornings a week. That's at the expensive end of the scale, but you should bank on paying at least 5,000 per term. A couple of things to bear in mind if you're both working: nurseries here are geared to th...

Also we are looking for a new employer for our brilliant maid/nanny, who looks after our 19-month-old...

It would help if you could say how old you are, what line of work you're in and what position you have in the company - but frankly I think this is a terrible offer and you'll struggle to get by on 16K a month. Your rent is going to be a minimum of 100K a year - and that's for a small one-bedroom fl...

Closing bank account on leaving the country

Can anyone advise on the steps that you need to take with regard to your bank account when you leave the country? I'm leaving at the end of this month, but my final month's salary won't be paid into my account until a couple of days after I leave, so I can't close the account before I leave. I assum...

Well, I do plan on coming back (for visits at least) so I guess I'll just have to talk to my feckless employer. They're not going to report me for absconding as I'm leaving on good terms, but they're pretty incompetent so they may just never get around to informing the authorities that I've left...

We let our flat in London out when we moved to Dubai. The rent barely covered the mortgage, and with other costs (e.g. fixing problems) it ended up costing us money. But we were glad we'd kept it when things didn't work out in Dubai and we returned to the UK a year later (we're still living int he f...

Can't speak about suits, but I got some good shirts made at Whistle & Flute in Satwa, in a little alley behind the Iranian hospital. They do suits as well so might be worth a try.

Fantastic nanny looking for job

Hi, hope this is the right place to post this. I'm a former Dubai resident now back in the UK, and my daughter's old nanny is looking for a new job as her current employer has to move back home unexpectedly. She's really special - she was absolutely fabulous with our young daughter (she's had a few ...
