What's the rule with tinting for expats, front windows have to be left clear? Is this something that is commonly overlooked though.

Letting a company hold on to your passport is two shades away from slavery. It will undoubtedly be used to leverage you to continue working and not travel as you see fit.

Sorry I'm just going to tag on to this post as I didn't feel the need to start a new thread for a similar question. Moving to Dubai very shortly and also looking for recommended parts of the city to live in. My company's Dubai office is on Al-Mina road. I don't mind a bit of a commute (I live in the...

corporate relocation to dubai. dont bring movies/music?

My personal effects are being relocated to Dubai via a company we contract out with. Everything will be shipped in a 20' container dedicated to my goods. I'm in the process of organizing my own checklist (sanity check) of what they are taking. Big question is my music/movie collection. I know not to...

Beijing, do the tourist stuff like Forbidden City and Tianamen Square. Be prepared for an onslaught of people trying to sell you garbage. Other than that I just kind of wandered around the city on foot to find stuff here and there, that's my favorite way to explore large cities. At night there is Su...

Well backed up all my music on one of the new larger capacity Ipods I bought today. At least I'll have the music with me while my computer is in a container at sea somewhere. Already figured that about any sort of adult material, but hey that's what bringing the lady along is for right (hope she doe...

Just landed/moved to Dubai, suggestions to keep me busy?

Well touched down today. Came here on a corporate relocation from my organizations' US HQ to our Middle East HQ. Start on Sunday though so I'm currently putting around the hotel shaking the flight off. I'm guessing things are a bit slow during the day right now during ramadan but any suggestions on ...

Everything closed on Fridays?

Is it normal practice that the town shuts down on friday or is it just during ramadan? I've been trying to call around for apartments and cars and can't get an answer from any business.

Yeah, just moved here last weekend. Trying to start looking for a place to live and a car. Guess I can't count on being productive on my weekends. Businesses like this closed on the weekend just baffles me.

ha. The idea of car salespeople not trying to stalk people when they have the post free time. I guess thats why everything is open so late. Do things open on Saturday, or same deal?

The only thing I ever want to do after work is get a drink and take my noose off (or loosen it at the very least).

This really screwed my grand plans for the day, damn it. Emirates mall all shut down on friday as wel?

I'd only be interested if I can pay with three easy payments of 9,95 and be guaranteed to make millions in my first week.

Oh, I'd hope it comes with this suit as well:

Need a crazy new jacket to go along with the crazy "home business" idea. That picture is of one Mr. Mathew Lesko. Look him up for a laugh, should be able to find some infomercials of him on youtube or something of the sort. He's a infomercial hack in the US that makes money by selling book...

more annoyances. Called around to try and rent a car for a week or two so I can have some independent transport. Can't do it without my passport. Don't have my passport though since my company submitted it for the visa process last week. Ugh. I'm tired of taking taxis everywhere, I hate taxis. It's ...

City is nice from everything I've seen, just wish my HR department thought some of these practicalities over before rushing me here.

I think I need to go skiing to work off some energy.

Yeah, guess I'm just anxious to get out an explore. I always do that when I'm in a new place, drive around for hours in any which direction just getting a map in my head and get a feel for things.

How hard is it to come by Japanese cars around here? I've been looking and really haven't seen many available. Was looking for something like an Sti or Evo since I knew registering a GT-R would be a pain here. Have just been looking for RS4's and M3's instead now. Most of what I've seen on the stree...

Just in general, if you are both either at a similar level in the company and/or functionally unrelated then no one should care. Though if something did develop I don't think either would walk around the office making it obvious. Work is work. What you do outside of work, with people from the compan...

Wow sounds rough. Though I didn't think these would be the ideal conditions for small displacement boosted motors. I tested out an Audi S6 today I think I'm going to go that route (the 4.2L v8 sounds good, a nice change of pace for me). Have you ever been on the forums at freshalloy.com? Good site w...

quick question about a specific neighborhood

What is the general atmosphere, demographic, opinion etc of Bur Dubai? More specifically 9B street between Al Mina Road and Mankhool Road, about a 10 minute walk back from Al-Mina road by the Dry docks and the port? Want to get a better idea of how others who are familiar with Dubai perceive the pla...

speaking of ramadan, any iftar spots to recommend, or would that be taboo (i'm honestly clueless)? I have yet to really try to venture into one and have not really had any regional food yet (well, lebanese). There are actually only one or two muslims in my office here, don't want to seem like a patr...

Watch out on that brian crower stuff, low quality chinese, not much research into their strokers. Cams are as shitty as JWT and other cheapo cast units. Internals are BS. I've known mark from mazworx for a years (long before the whole import nissan and drag/drift in general took off) and got some go...
