Does the offer for Singapore include housing? Is travelling allowances included in the $5.7k? If the $5.7k is your base salary it would be an alright wage if you're single but does make things harder when you're attached if your partner is not planning on working also. But purely comparing the 8,500...

Agree with Chocco, area you're wanting and with a 40k budget really only leaves you with shared accomodation - unless you stay somewhere like Karama or the skirts of Bur Dubai. Car wise you'll find Dubai to be a damn sight cheaper than Sg. Just check with ur company as well regarding transport allow...

Personally haven't come across any malicious or degrading racism here. I think by the term Asian you have to segregate out the Indians and Pakis from say SE Asians, as yes the former seems to fill up the construction/manual labor quotas. I'm a Thai/Singaporean mix so look a little like a Filipino so...

Dubai Marina stage 1 is pretty nice atm. Stage 2 will be tops when its complete, but that won't be for awhile yet. Still nice to walk around the canal.

Re: Paying one year up front? Really?

Is it true that renters are expected to pay an entire years' worth of rent UP FRONT? As in, "Here's your cheque for 60,000 DHR Mr. Landlord." I have read on some sites that occasionally a landlord will take three or four post-dated cheques, but I'm still floored by the idea that in order to rent an...

Ditto to this useless and pathetic excuse for a "service". Even had a taxi driver cutting me off and when I beeped my horn he wanted to pull over and have a fist of fury session. Called the complaints line and what a joke that was.

Answer will of course depend on size and make of vehicle and the period of lease - weekly, monthly, annual. There are many around so shop around and pose the question to your employer of who is the preferred company - its a good starting point, as you would get corporate rates from them. Small (<1.5...

I carried my radar detector here when I moved from Australia. Works fine and never had any dramas, normally set it to "volt meter" mode so the display shows the power level and if any one asks, "it's just a battery analyser"

IMHO for the cars that you want you're better off just getting a brand spanker, cause they cost next to nothing here anywayz. Just the rego and duty in Sg for a corolla would be more than the cost of buying the whole car here.

A64Venice wrote:Well SG is completely different. The COE for cars here (kinda like a tax) doubles the prices of already hyped up car prices. A lancer here in SG would cost close to S$70K = AED150K. Camry goes for S$100K = AED216k

Thats why I take the mrt in Singapore :p
