Disgruntled Dutch girl

Hey all .... I have had this concern for quite some time, and I stumbled upon the forum by chance. I'm a 26 year-old Dutch lady,a psychologist, and I have recently found a nice job in Dubai. I moved to DXB last month. The main reason I moved to Dubai, when I have never resided outside The Netherland...

Kanelli .... this might surprise you, but most of the Arabs I've met were very supportive and happy for me and my fiance. As I understand it is allowed in Islam to marry a christian. I have never seen anyone muslim/Arab frown upon me and my fiance. Also ... whether people believe it can work out or ...

But some other valid points have been made and people might have other points of view due to experiences either by themselves or things that have happened to female friends. Yes but for their "opinions" to be generalised and stereotyped, and to be picked up by roughly every westerner I've met in Du...

It seems that we're not even having the same conversation anymore chocoholic. It goes without saying that there are some bad eggs/apples ... good eggs/apples ...etc etc etc. The point of this thread, was not to "defend" the Arabs, or attack the westerners. It was to address a certain attitude displa...

Oh and a few more examples of how there seems to be something wrong with the mentalities of these that have been here for too long:- 1-I've been to Spain, Chile, Cuba, Thailand ....etc. And EVERYWHERE I went, the western expats living there, the vast majority of them, have at least attempted to lear...

I bet by jove 50% of those europeans are Brits Hmm that's an understatement. Don't get me wrong, I've had wonderful English friends. But the percetage looks something like this: 60% English (The Scots are too nice, and the Irish have been stereotyped and oppressed themselves so they don't seem to e...

Er Shaakira, aren't you supposed to be tolerant? It's not for you to judge! If that's the case then you make a disgrace of yourself by showing your intolerance! What so a tattoo makes you a bad person - oooooohhhhhaaaahhhhh Then damn it I'm a frikkin' she devil! Please all these women have henna ta...

The problem is when someone with no background knowledge of the topic at hand (that is, chocoholic) looks at a very late episode of the Israel vs. The Middle East series, and bases assumptions on that. Someone was talking about driving people out of their homes? (referring to the jewish people) You ...

I'm usually against banning people. But in this case, I wanted to never see his posts again. It doesn't matter how "different" his opinion is, as long as he articulates it in a way that is constructive to the discourse. But his posts are nothing like that. First of all you can never make out which s...

They were there for the purpose of 'hajj'(pilgrimage), and a person who passes away whilst doing an act of worship is classified as a 'shaheed' (martyr), may Allah elevate their status in Jannah (paradise). Ameen Muslims believe that, non-muslims don't. So if a non-muslim disagrees, let it be. Also...

Two things can repair a broken heart: 1-Time. 2-Discovery of something that changes the picture. ie: A boyfriend discovers that his gf which dumped him, has been cheating on him for a long time, and bad-mouthed him. The feeling will change from "heartbroken" to "angry and frustrated" which is not ne...

You're in the Middle East. The magical sands of Time elope lazily as millenia pass by. The tales of love and passion passed on through generations. An old man in the desert tells you of a man in love, crazed by it, wandering the deserts ...... Bars? Nightclubs? .......... ummm ok. My most romantic d...

shady crowds You mean non-europeans? Depends on what you want the beach for. Swimming? Surfing? Walking? I prefer the "virgin" beaches for a walk, like Sharjah's and Ajman's beaches (except on Thursdays and Fridays) at night. As for surfing/diving, I've been told there some very nice ones ne...

It is strange.

But I would think it's because bars are exclusive hang-outs, deep in a hotel or around some corner.

While malls and cinemas are general venues. So shutting them down would have the desired "mourning" effect. Whereas few would notice a bar shutting down.

When I first came to Dubai on a visit to my fiance, I was impressed by the number of different colors/races/cultures that seemed to be present. Nevertheless, I sensed a sort of tension under the surface (refer to my "disgruntled dutch girl" thread). There seems to be three major groups of people in ...

That's the point: I don't care. Suppose I didn't have a bf (he's my fiance by the way). I'm angered by the injustice of a small community which exists in the heart of the Middle East, and is so stubborn and hell-bent on keeping the stereotypes and bias alive, as if that's what makes them westerners ...

Sadly bias, bigotry, prejudice and misunderstanding are to be found in the four corners of the planet. I don't really know whether Dubai is any worse than anywhere else. Maybe it's given a sharper edge and more focus because of the incredible mix in one place. Your particular case is probably a per...

Getting there is kind of hard. It's pretty big, and I think that people furnishing/completing their hourses/villas will appreciate the basic bathroom/toilet/marbles ...etc. It's cheap as per compared to Dubai, but not as cheap as I imagined Chinese merchandise would be. The only thing I found worthw...

We would however offer the entire country of the UAE to you for
US$ 100,000.00

That reminds me of when the Dutch sold New York (Originally called New Amsterdam) to the English for 25 dollars or something.

Hey Pete, buy the UAE :) It's a good deal.

Sorry to butt in but bigotry is learned. A child is not born with prejudices against others. "Teaching" acceptance is not the answer whereas showing or leading by example is. (Yeah! I can't believe how this choco chick twists the issue into something else, and then provides false and irrelevant info to support that "other" issue. First of all, there are no "christian" states. The European renaissance and ascension to power began after the Separation of church and state. Hence, ...
