Work Visa, how long does it take?

I am a US citizen. I have been offered a job in Dubai. I forwarded all the documents that the company asked for plus my medical exam (HIV, TB and Hep B) about 3 weeks ago. The company's HR rep said he has given all the information to their PRO on Feb 3rd. My question is how long does it take to get ...

Medical Insurance

I am a US citizen just got an offer in Dubai. I have a question regarding medical insurance. My company will provide medical/dental/vision for a monthly premium of $565.00 (approx 21,000 AED) for the whole family. Is it worth it to sign up for this insurance? I know in the US we can't even think abo...

My Input

I am new to Dubai, have been here only 2 weeks. Here is my input. The rents are absolutely crazy in Dubai. I found a 2 BDRM apt in a brand new community in a high rise for AED 135,000/yr. I don’t know about NY but where I moved from, Las Vegas, you could rent a mansion for this price. We wanted to g...

A Good One

I recently dealt with Gladis Chouire of Better Homes. A really nice lady, who not only returned my calls but was prompt and very professional. Highly recommended. Ask for her if you call BH.

E-Form

Has any of you used the Department of Immigration's eform website? I would like to apply for a maid's visa. Can everything be done online? On their website it says eform application fee is 220 but then talks about application typing again at the immigration office. I would appreciate anybody's comme...

Dubai Police- Please Help

I am provided with a company vehicle, the vehicle is being rented by them. The other day when I went home and tried to park in my parking garage I scraped one side on the wall, few scratches and a little dent (Thanks to the narrow parking spaces in Duabi). The next day I reported it to my company as...

I think it would be best for your husband to renegotiate the terms with his company. He could ask them to change his signle status to family status. Then he doesn't have to go back every month. I could imiagine the company would be saving substantially on airfare and that money could be allocated to...

Even if he has to pay the airfare out of his own pocket, I think its still worth the whole family to be here together to avoid taxes. 6 trips a year back home. I am assuming $1500/trip is $9000 so thats your savings on top of not paying any taxes. You should consult with a tax professional though as...

A Stroller

A baby stroller is a must in Dubai. We just arrived in Dubai 2 months ago and brought one with us. It gets used a lot not only indoors but outdoors also. Summer is approaching so I can imagine it will be used less and less but you do need it in parks, marinas etc. Not to worry you can easily buy one...

Rent

I rented an apartment a month ago, paid 5% deposit, 5% agent commission and one year's rent in advance. In my case my company advanced me the money, actually wrote a check to the landlord and now they are taking it out of my monthly paycheck. I guess its pretty common in Dubai for your company to de...

No it snot possible, you need a valid driver's license to exchange it for a UAE license. Your best bet would be to get an international driving license which is good for a year from the date of issue.

This guy is nothing but a trouble maker. He likes to start controversial topics (see his earlier posts) which have nothing to do with him personally. We should ban his a** and send him back to Sri Lanka.

President's Brother Died

While driving I noticed something highly unusual. English radio stations playing Koranic verses and somber music. I was puzzled untill I heard the news. There will be 3 days of official mourning. What does it really mean?

It really depends where you are coming from.(color of your passport) I would say its much better to apply for jobs and then negotiate once you get it.
