Well things must have changed since 2002-we were paying S$5000, unfurnished, per month for an apartment! (have a house here and works out to DH8000 per month) Rents must have really dropped. Food-eating hawker stall stuff granted, is cheaper but Aussie lamb chops starting at S$20 per kilo compared t...

Not as far as I know. There are some good restaurants here though and a huge range of dining experiences. I am quite happy getting a cheese arabic bread from Al Reef Bakery for DH4, then again places like Asha's and the Thai restaurant at Wafi are nice and the hotels seem to have some good buffets a...

I think someone said it before-race or more specifically country of origin is a determining factor in salary. I think you'll be hard pressed to find any salary ranges that will specifically point out that "if you come from blah, blah expect to be paid "X""-politically incorrect. The best advice anyb...

Dubai Explorer lists quite a few-Al Boom has a dive centre on Al Wasl Road and I am pretty sure you can do a course thru' Jumeirah Beach Hotel and I think you are allowed to use their facilities if you do this.

The supermarkets are Carrefour (which has a website BTW), Geant, Spinney's, Choithrams, Union Coop and Park n Shop. There are others like the one at the top of Lamcy...is that Al Maya?? Not sure, and I've seen LuLu advertised too. Spinney's is expensive in my opinion but has everything (and I am not...

You can get the dacron type one from IKEA but the closest I've seen to a protector of the type you are talking about is flock backed vinyl table cloths.

Also try the notice boards in Spinney's, Park n Shop, Union Coop etc and the Gulf Classifieds for second hand bargains. Other furniture places include Marina-nice wooden stuff, and reasonably priced for what you get. Depends if you are after modern or antique looking furniture.

Don't you just make your player region free or change region? Isn't a matter of just pressing a couple of buttons on the control? That is to play the DVD's but I think you are talking about what system it is like pal or NTSC or multisystem????? We bought a dvd player in Sing and it worked here and a...

To reassure youself about the cost for accomodation go to the Gulf News classifieds online and a place like http://www.dubizzle.com. You'll see that the monthly allowance is more than adequate. These online sites (another is Kaleej times) will also help you determine the cost of cars too. For other ...

I think it is a great place to live compared with other places we've been there are a great bunch of people around and less transient than most other expat working destinations where turn over is every 2 to 3 years. You find quite a few people have been here for their working lifetime thus far. All e...

You should be able to find a car within that price range and a good place to look is on line in the classifieds of Khaleej Times, Gulf News and in http://www.dubizzle.com. Also supermarket notice boards are good. The petrol is cheap and for that matter so are taxis but as a trailing spouse the novel...

Actually it isn't really a bad place to drive- I think you have to choose your house/apt close to everything to take into account that extra 30 minutes you may have to spend on the road because of some holiday, accident, road works or special event that holds up the traffic. There is a rail system g...

Wrong assumption sniper420- he was a person who could well afford it obviously-loud, obnoxious, one of his phrases was "these people have no business sense"-so my guess is racist too! He also abused the Security Guard approximately 2 inches from his face for questioning his wife who walked through t...

Sorry to butt in but bigotry is learned. A child is not born with prejudices against others. "Teaching" acceptance is not the answer whereas showing or leading by example is. (Yeah!
