Is Dubai Children-friendly?

Hi,

I'm new here. Sorry if this has been discussed to death.

We are considering a move to Dubai, and being embarrassingly ignorant about Dubai, I have to ask if it is a good place to bring up very young children.

How do expat wives spend their free time with their children?

Re: Moving to Dubai

After the first 2 weeks the shine wears off! Dear dbxsoul, I see you often caution newbies that any excitement would vanish after awhile in Dubai. I would greatly appreciate it if you could elaborate on this. Is it because newbies go to Dubai with unrealistic expectations, and hence are let down or...

Dear JSV,

Thank you so much for your detailed information. Much appreciated :D

Do you know if I can sponsor my Indonesian nanny (maid) currently in my employment? We are now in Singapore.

Oh dear ... Does that mean everyone is bored? There is no fun hanging out at shopping centres, unless there are indoor play area for the little ones.

I am awestruck by the hotel! It is really one of its kind.

I read somewhere on the net that US$1billion was spent on furnishing the Burj al-Arab that it will take 400 years of full occupancy to just BREAK EVEN.

How can anyone afford even the lowest of US$6000 a night?!

Thank you Nik for your post. :)

Someone nice like yourself posted the link to me last night, and I am browsing it as I post this.

I would like to get in touch with members here who are now living in Dubai with their family/children. I would be lovely to get personal accounts.

Dubai International Financial Centre District

Anyone here working in the DIFC District? Is it true that the DIFC is not fully completed yet and has only opened in phases? I hear the Exchange is scheduled to open only later this month. If you are already working there, where do you live and how long does it take you to the office in peak morning...

Thank you for your reply, Liban. I need to clarify my question - If someone were to work at DIFC, where would be a good place to live if he wants to avoid/minimise the peak morning traffic? http://www.downtownliving.ae/?p=42 Are these residences and villas under construction or fully completed? It's...

Hmm .... what artist's impressions can do to people's expectations! The trouble is, I cannot tell from where I am (miles away) whether the photos on the web are mere drawings or actual photos!

Hari Raya Puasa - 3rd Nov

I believe the Muslim new year falls on 3rd Nov. Will it be mayham on the roads? A good idea to stay indoors then?

What is it like over the past years?

Hi,

Has anyone paid a visit to the Zabeel Palace during Eid before?

- Are tourists allowed?
- Where exactly is the Palace location?
- Will it be overcrowded?

Thanks so much

PS: I am wondering what to do or see when Eid celebration starts

I hope the moderators clamp down hard on you. You make this board look bad. It's been great until I "see" you.
