some of that does sound so true. I'm not female so I can't comment on being stared at but the driving is a major problem.
What are the prices in Dubai in comparison to other emirates ?

agree a lot with Scot1870. As a fellow Scot I was dreading the heat of summer, but I'd rather be taking it easy in the sun than digging my car out of the snow to get to work. Every country is what you make of it. I've moved around quite a lot. My last posting was in Australia. A lot of living in oz ...

I live quite close to a Burger King and find it hilarious watching people queing up outside waiting for them to open their doors in the evening. If you can't survive a day without a Burger King then there's something wrong with your outlook on life You'd be better off fasting than eating Burger King...

I think it's one of those programmes that you either watch it from episode 1, series 1 or forget about it.

Car Insurance/Vehicle registration

Another piece of confusing UAE bureaucratic red tape. So, I bought a second car to get myself to and from work a few months ago. Got the insurance, the NOC and the countless copies of my passport and several photos to go with it that everything here seems to require. Got the vehicle registration tra...

I had thought that might be the case, but apparently in Abu Dhabi (or it could just be that this guy was in a particularly unhelpful mood) that isn't the case as far as registering the car for a period of less than 1 year. It's just a bit of a pain to have to go and get additional months insurance w...

Dubai 7's

I'm driving down from Abu Dhabi for the 7's at the end of the month. I'm thinking that life will be so much easier (and I'll get a beer or two) if I get a hotel for the night.
Where would people recommend staying ? Somewhere decent in an area where there will be some kind of nightlife.

I don't think I've ever lived in a country where cases of male rape and male on male sexual assaults are so common place. Does this happen in the UAE because some people have bypassed the censors and been exposed to such morally corrupting western influences such as p<3n and rap music or is it becau...

That's shocking if true.
So it's a lack of discipline and education from a young age that helps contribute to this ?

There's actually some kind of weird obsession going on with drivers who use hazard lights when it is foggy like it is a bad thing. Not every car is equipped with fog lights, and I actually find it helpful to see the hazard lights through the fog instead of the the rear end of a car appearing out of...

The reason is that the majority of the workers in the UAE are foriegn. A high percentage of these immigrant workers are from poorer countries. I'll try andbe a bit more sensible this time. If you're worried about whether people will look at you and regard you as a hooker, maid or something else which is deemed as a lower status than what you really are then i would say the chances are they probably will. Sadly a lot of emiratis will expect...

i think people drink on flights because they can. The fact that it's free helps.
The airline lounges are just as bad, ply you full of free booze prior to take off. To be honest, rather than ban booze on the flights, ban it from the lounges first.
