POSITION SUMMARY:

This position provides advanced-level GIS support and GIS data and systems administration, and is a GIS resource embedded in the E&P business areas. The primary responsibilities of this position are to:

· Understand the needs of the E&P business areas and translate business requirements for GIS into recommendations for using GIS tools and spatial data to help the customer make sound business decisions, using spatial visualization, analysis and other GIS tools.

· Support the business areas by providing one-on-one assistance, demonstrating use of GIS tools, troubleshooting problems and utilizing outside resources to answer questions about GIS usage, when needed.

· Support the local extension of the enterprise GIS, including SDETM administration, and ArcGIS ServerTM component administration, as well as understanding local license configurations so as to provide the interface for enterprise systems staff for troubleshooting and maintaining the local implementation of the enterprise GIS.

· Work as a member of the Global GIS Group and work teams to provide solutions that manage and use spatial data, analyze spatial data, describe spatial data, manage workflows, and observe best practices in GIS use and spatial data management at the user level.

The job requires a team player with good knowledge of the Exploration & Production segment of the E&P Value Chain, as well as strong GIS, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.

ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

o Tactically supporting the users in the business area by:

§ Support the use of GIS tools to create and manage spatial data

§ Serve as a resource for GIS “how-to” knowledge

§ Provide User Training – Provide small group internal “classroom” training and training by demonstration, individually for users

§ Trouble-shoot problems and advising on solutions

o GIS Database (SDETM) and ArcGIS ServerTM Administration

§ Administer the local SDETM and ArcGIS Server local services

§ Liason with the Houston and London SDETM and ArcGIS Server administrators, as well as infrastructure and network groups to promote awareness of specialized ArcGIS ServerTM functions, requirements, and desktop requirements for proper functioning of ArcGISTM applications on the desktop and intranet

o Engaging in GIS Solutions Development Team Participation

§ Work with GIS Technical Solutions Team in development and testing of in-house developed solutions.

§ Work with GIS Technical Solutions Team in describing business cases for the development of GIS tools, map services, and other solutions.

§ Training and assisting GIS users when new GIS data, tools or functionality are introduced to the business.

o Strategically supporting the business area use of GIS:

§ Attending interactive peer-meetings (staff meetings).

§ Attending the meetings of the business unit regularly, keeping the GIS Manager informed of current business events.

§ Maintaining awareness of upcoming projects; contributing to long-range planning in anticipation of applying GIS where needed

§ Attending training in order to further develop new GIS skills, learn new GIS technology, ongoing.

o Acting as GIS Advisor to the business

§ Communicating how GIS can be used for solving business problems

§ Informing potential or new GIS users in the business areas about the availability of GIS tools, data, and solutions.

§ Educating the business on the advanced use of GIS tools for analysis of data, spatial or 3D modeling, geoprocessing, and other GIS tasks.
Job Requirements :

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

Technical

· Proven GIS skills including GIS data administration, SDETM administration, and ArcGIS ServerTM administration (Windows server platform)

· Oracle SQL required, MS Access SQL (ESRI Geodatabase), and MS SQL-Server (optional)

· Strong analytical skills

· Knowledge of best practices in GIS and Spatial Data Management

· Strong workflow evaluation skills

· Knowledge of the Petroleum Industry Life Cycle as it relates to GIS

· Knowledge of E&P GIS data modeling

· Demonstrated ability to think spatially and communicate GIS principles to others

EXPERIENCE:

· Minimum of 5+ years of related E&P GIS and some Geoscience /Engineering Support experience required. Experience working as a GIS support person in the Petroleum Industry is a plus.

· Experience with ESRI ArcGIS ServerTM platform, including SDETM is required.

· Experience with industry data sources is a plus: Examples: IHSE, Fugro-Robertson Tellus Global or EOS, Deloitte Petroview, and other industry data that involves GIS.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Minimum Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in GIS, plus 5 years of work experience, or equivalent ESRI certifications + college to equal a minimum of 8 years training, education + experience.

More acceptable is the Petroleum Industry GIS professional with a Batchelor’s degree in GIS, Geology, Geography, Cartography or Geodetics specialties, Environmental Sciences with GIS Focus, OR ESRI certifications + college and 10+ years of experience with some combination of GIS-Geoscience mapping, spatial data management, GIS development, advanced GIS support and/or training.
