How do you know? It may lead to it eventually, since it is widely believed that President Mubarak, 81, is lining up his youngest son, Gamal, head of the NDP's powerful policy secretariat, to be his successor.

I read somewhere that the entire family has already left for UK.

Was told that both sons have left Egypt. Hubby monitoring the situation very closely.

My best wishes and prayers goes to egyption civillians as well..Unfortunetly egypt being a central arab country, just as jordan and lebanon to the israeli issue(protection) will never be left alone for the interests of its own civillians...This is one of the reasons why Egypt is run with military dictartoship under the guise of democracy...Americans and israelies must be bombarding the egyption milatary with ruthless orders to stop civillian resistance by all means..I wish them luck and hope civilians woun't give up..

Apparently the US isn't very hands on with Mubarak and have taken a step back - removing support to him.

Internet and SMS disconnected. Tried to text family - text failed. Apparently mobile service may be disconnected later in the day as well. Word of mouth can't be stopped.

Government says they will talk to the people, but there will be no concessions and no promises. So what do they want to talk about, the weather???

Christians and Muslims have united in this cause.

Don't let them fool us Madaaam...They can tell us one thousand lies through the media, but in reality they'll be hard pressing behind the closed doors or on SOS lines..

I hope all this is worth it in the end. It would be a shame if nothing changed. All power to the people and to hell with the rest !

Keep us posted Mahmoud. Hubby keeps me posted. Has the Arabic channels on and has to tell me what is going on. Inshallah, your family stays safe. If you get in touch with them tell them they have alot of support here in Dubai. Hubby spoke to sis on landline this morning so there is still communication (until the government shuts that down!).

Thanks mahmoud keep us informing...I was expecting military to take over with coup d´état.
That's what happens when you don't invest on citizens but on army that protects the system established by western imperialism.

Army got involved :( cairo, Alexandria, suez, under siege from 6 pm to 7 am.. and i think this action means the army is protecting the government and not the people which might lead to a blood batch :(

Al Jazeera has some good live coverage on the situation. Currently everything has stopped as the protesters performing maghrib prayers on the street, with riot police just feet away !

I hope nothing happens but also hope that the momentum is not lost as everything that has happened till now will be for nothing and wasted also when things quite down there will a very heavy lash back from the goverment.

Hate to say, but literally its a do or die kind of moment :|

the people in Egypt respect the army so much :( and that is what is fearing me now...
I have no idea what is next now.... but I know Mubarak is crazy and he won't give up soon...

Specially I heard in the local Egyptian channel that they are declaring that the people were attacking banks and hotels... when they say that, this mean they justifying something crazy they are willing to do :(

on the other hand, a lot of protesters were trying to get into the Television building, and that is what get the army involved so soon...

I wish Mubarak will die now... this man is expired..

That's what I fear too. I hope civilians woun't give up until they get what they want..
Why doesn't mubarak pack up and live with his honour and respect to his people's choice and preferance. I would have done it for millions times until now even if it meant to be the end of my own life...

Don't be suprised if the military is playing plot by paying militias to break and rob shop, banks, stations etc, so that it eases coup on the civilians..

I heard few hours back he was supposed to address the nation, but I guess he is too much of a chicken for that even. The least one can do as the president of the country is address the nation. POS

Sure.. he knows that if he comes out and all of a sudden starts talking about reforms, human rights and economic stability, it will only make everyones stomach even sicker than what it was...He just has no choice but steping down...perhaps he is still trying to work out how to do it honourably.. :)

I hope everyone is safe, and continues to be safe.

With Mubarak having dismissed the Cabinet, but clinging on to power - it seems that there is some momentum.. However given the clear peoples' wish that Mubarak has to go, I can't see how he can hang on without resorting to violence. :?

Loonwatch have created a page on the protests with some interesting info on it - including the US view of Mubarak as well as a loon blogger's take on democracy and Muslims  :
